Nine Inch Nails - A Warm Place | Vkgoeswild piano cover

Музыка

Original piano arrangement written by me. For sheet music, MIDI files and piano covers, please contact me with the contact form on my site www.vkgoeswild.com. This is nicer to play on a "real" piano, as I'm using a special effect in the beginning, pressing silent chord, for the echo effect.. Hope you can hear it, lol. I really love this song.

This has always been my favorite NIN song, even when I discovered it's a cover of David Bowie's Crystal Japan. However, this song on piano-it's as though Moonlight Sonata and A Warm Place merged into the saddest, greatest thing I've ever heard.

@@USF-yo4uh The origin of the piece is from Crystal Japan, which really feels like traditional Japanese music if you’re familiar with it. What Trend Reznor did was adapt the overall progression of the song into a fairly adept diatonic Western classical piece using some very interesting and powerful concepts in music theory. If you look at how he creates harmonic tension through melodic momentum with inversions and even 2nd interval tension, hinting at resolution that only manifests once the final C note is added to the last bar of the ascending melody, that’s what really creates the inescapable “catch" to the song. Another interesting thing about that point in the motif is that it really shifts the tonal center from Dm to F Maj, F Maj of course being the relative Major of D Minor. This is how the feeling is manipulated from a very deep sadness to a sense of hope and unexpected brightness or innocence. Those techniques are nowhere present in Crystal Japan, as beautiful and serene as it is common to Japanese pre-Western exposure music. A Warm Place really illustrates what an accomplished musician and instrumentalist Reznor is. The way he hits certain diads and triads with both hands at key times in the piece are very well constructed and executed, so that the listener isn’t even thinking about the instruments, but feeling purity in music.

@Simple Simplicity 101 Look up 'David Bowie Crystal Japan' here on KZread. Trent asked for permission, and was given blessing, from Bowie to absolutely model this song after Crystal Japan. It's how their friendship, and collaboration on a version if "I'm Afraid of Americans", got it's start.

wow!!... just.... wow. its great watching you play it. you provide a great deal of vu compositional insight into one of the most hauntingly beautiful melodies ever made. when one hears the album version, with all its synth arrangements, its hard to get a grasp on the fact that it was entirely written on piano; you bring said fact into a glaringly undeniable light. Thank you for sharing.
