Nina's comedic honesty is more enchanting than anyone else I've ever seen.

Nina is a genius. This interview sounds almost like an AI robot before they existed, just reading a list of questions rather than having a conversation.

I love Nina! When she's on stage and does an ad lib and makes herself laugh, that is the best part for me. She does like to laugh, she enjoys laughing at things she says. I think part of it in her own mind is, "where did that come from?" Also technically she is so smooth, you very rarely see her make a mistake, and then she makes it a laughable moment.

I just started watching this lady and I think she is a great ventriloquist and her comedy and the puppets she uses suits her just fine. I think she was tired in this interview. She wasn't giving it one hundred percent...

I got the impression watching this that Nina feels discomfort when she is not in control of both sides of the conversation

Nina was (uncharacteristically) very nervous here. The public's questions were quite dumb and the interviewer was rather dopey. I feel she is always holding back in person to person interviews rather than when her unvarnished brilliance flows on stage. So many of her interviewers try to solely get into "her" as a person, rather than using the opportunity to draw out Nina through Nina AND and Monkey. The Nina Conti In Therapy Sessions are a brilliant study of this psychological game she plays with herself, the therapist/actor/questioner and of course the viewer). She actually uses Monkey to show her true self, but the effect is often lost on those who seperate Nina from Monkey. They foolishly think of Monkey as "not really there". This is insulting to Nina as a whole person. They just do not see the full and beautiful and complex and clever Nina as the whole package in front of them. Monkey (as the alter ego of Nina) puts most interviewers to shame whereas the straight persona of Nina is quite shy and reticent ... look at all the unconscious hand-covering-mouth and hair-fiddling and tense mouth gestures she makes throughout this interview ... not to mention the agonising silences of bewilderment at the situation she has put herself in! Monkey is not just being funny, for a quick laugh -- he is often making some very serious and scathing social commentary. A good interviewer allows the respondent's answers (in this case EITHER Nina or Monkey) to lead the line of inquiry. Monkey says many things which deserve further probing but which are often passed off because he is just seen as a wisecracking dummy. Nina's brilliance is the subtle way she IS ONE with Monkey -- as does any true artist and performer become one with their craft. A classic example were the questions about "writing/planning" her jokes and performances. What she really wanted to say was "Oh ffs, I just go on stage and be myself, speak my mind, let myself go through my puppets" ... but that is too honest for the general public and gives the real game away.

Watch her psychoanalysis session interviews (there are 8 of them) here on youtube. It's part of her act.

@@bobbyd6680 Well, I've watched them all, many times, and analysed them a lot. There is a LOT of conjecture in the comments about how much of them is an act, how much is improvisation, and how much is truly just Nina being Nina. If you search and watch Adam Meggido's career as an improvisation coach, you will see that the true game of those therapy session sketches is a mutual leap into the fearlessness of comedic improv. They are in fact acting right on the edge and letting go *beyond* the edge. Meaning: their improv IS IN FACT personally therapeutic -- for both of them in and out of role. It is VERY psychologically complex.

It's her shtick, it's part of the act when she is in character with her puppets. Everyone thinks they are therapists now and making assumptions from a interview.
