About 2 Meter Sessions
====================
Based in the Netherlands, 2 Meter Sessions is an independent, ongoing (new) music platform with a great legacy. Monthly we film 3 to 4 sessions with promising and breakthrough acts from all over the world.
The show started back in 1987 by radio presenter Jan Douwe Kroeske. On his popular national radio show he persuaded New-Zeeland band Crowded House to play a couple of songs. The response of the public was so great, that 2 Meter Sessions quickly became a household name. In 1993, the show made a successful transition to national television. From there the show became a national phenomenon, for over 10 years, with filmed sessions of new talent, breakthrough acts and arrived career artists. Almost a million of 2 Meter Sessions cd’s were sold in the Netherlands.
Over 30 years many well-known acts have visited the show; from James Taylor, Elliott Smith and David Crosby to Damien Jurado, Ben Howard and Josh Ritter, via Radiohead, Nirvana, Coldplay and Foo Fighters. Archive footage can regularly be seen in (theatrical) documentary movies, like “Mystify: Michael Hutchence” (with footage of our session with INXS, filmed in 1997), “Heaven Adores You” (with footage of our session with Elliott Smith, filmed in 1998) and “All I Can Say” (with footage of our session with Blind Melon, filmed in 1993).

Met Nils in Bradford UK when I was in high school after a small gig. Still one of the best shows I ever went to and he told me to keep on with guitar, which I have for the following 30 years.

Underrated he must be , i never saw him mentioned in any top guitar player ranking, which is strangely insane, in my opinion he is better than most out there. -He plays the electric guitar at Prince level..., and that is an understatement!!! -He plays the acoustic better than any of the electric "gods" that is always at the top in the guitar hierarchy, his acoustic guitar playing is nothing but out of this world spectacular ! -He plays several other instruments at high level. -He is an decent singer and songwriter. Bruce is probably the better songwriter and frontman , but that is the only things Bruce is obviously better at....!
great, nils is probably the most underrated musician in rockbusiness

Fantastic drummer
Perfection, absolute perfection. I can't get enough of this!
In the middle of the song there is the most tasteful guitar solo in music history.Period.
One of my all-time favorite performances of one of my all-time favorite songs!
Dedicated to a lovely man who I wronged and I will always regret - heard recently that he's still listening to this.
Woooowww, love this recording.....Nils and the drummer coming completely in "the moment" ..... What a joy to see and hear!!!
looking at the face of Nils and the other band members, you can see that they knew that this was something special
Best performance ever of shine silently. I saw him that year twice in the Netherlands in Zoetermeer and in Heino. Great shows!

Everybody should listen much more to these unique 2 meter sessions. Thanks JDK(dutch televison) for so much beautifull tuned music.
My mate Andrew died too young a few years ago. He was the lead singer in our band - a true rock star. At his funeral he was brought into the church to this song. The priest then read out a eulogy from Nils Lofgren. We had no idea that our buddy was so well connected. This song will always remind us of Andrew (Chisel). Gone too soon mate.
Brilliant Simply Brilliant! MANY THANKS!
One of the best guitarists I've ever have heard. Nils Lofgren is an artist of his guitars and instruments. He is a world star .... I love his music ...

Beautifully filmed performance, no modern edit overkill, nice balanced sound of whole band, Nils and Andy riffing off each other and proof of how a top drawer drummer can dictate the mood and tempo, love the fills without missing a beat
The more I listen the better it gets. Emotional lyrics, great guitar, tight band
Brilliant - never ever tire of it
Love Love Love All the decades Great music, Nils, so great your aura 💖
This gives me so much joy listening to this song, it really is timeless. After all these years it is still brilliantly sung and played by these wonderful musicians
Saw him on Thursday in Cork with Bruce Springsteen and the East Street band and I have been thinking about Nils since then. Always a fan....!
Have not listened to this song in a long time , listened today with a few friends, WOW forgot how good it was
Bought this a few decades ago and still have it in my record collection, love this song.
I was there at the Mediapark (VARA studio) Hilversum when it was recorded. Every time I hear this number, I will be reminded of this. You will never forget something like that again. Unbelievable how Nils played this. Nice that it can be found on KZread.
I love this song, and especially this version.I used to play it very often as rock-dj.
Great song . Great album. Wore out the grooves in 79. and he's from my home-town. Bless you Nils
Always a great end to a Nils gig, I'll never get tired of hearing it
What a brilliant performance
Excellent, so many memories for this song , thanks 🙏 Nils
Loved since Grin. This is the best thing I EVER seen, heard, felt...I'm speechless and weeping.
Fabulous version of his classic.
NILS MAKES THE GUITAR TALK LIKE NO ONE ELSE . HENDRIX CHANGED HIS LIFE .
Great!! Love it. Makes me happy. And brings tears to my eyes. Remembering Anna, who was 100% shining and will always be shining silently... Thank you Nils & Band!
Great band - and the drumming skills of Andy Newmark are on a level of its own. What a drummer! John Lennon, Bryan Ferry, David Bowie had a good taste choosing him for their records
i heard this song when i was nine years old, and i was blown away. now at forty six , still the shivers run down my spine. what a great song !
I absolutely love this song.
I saw him for the first time a couple of weeks ago. I had never heard of his music and was never a Springsteen fan so knew nothing about him. Saw him at a nice club setting in Chicago. Man, I loved his music. So beautiful, soulfu!

Bought in 1979 this single. The only one still in my possesion. Couldn’t say farewell to it. Such an imposant song.
Excellent guitarmanship , I love the harmonics during his solos!!
Thank you Nils and Grin for those free shows at the Wheaton Youth Center in hometown MD , 70-71... We're all proud of our Bethesda brother who made it big.. Could not have happened to a nicer guy...

What a wonderful song ,I think they played this at Stuart Adamson's funeral ,this live performance by Nils is just so so good 🎸
Absolute class!
This song holds a very personal thought for me. My uncle loved nils lofgren, and at the time of when he died I was in my dads car and I remember this song being played. Everyone remembers someone through one way or other, and everyone mourns in different ways. Music is mourning, just instead it reminds me of while he was alive, he shined silently.

The term of how greater God is from our senses is called Kataphonic I believe. He is so AWESOME that when he says light, we can't imagine how great the difference is between His light and what we see. I often thought it would have been a "Real" movie if after Christ rises his friend Lazarus ,if Lazarus stared him down with anger: "Why did you bring me back here" and yet we go kicking and screaming . Faith

as shallow as this sounds, if your uncle loved Nils, 1st he was attracted to true and humble people. 2) he was not part of the crowd- which is a good thing because the crowd is always wrong, and finally he loved mystery, for that is what Nils is all about. we can take comfort, that Nils as he ages, knows how special he is....sometimes. under the right conditions, it's ok for the talented one, but no "star" to lay out the facts, some braggadocio? and oh i wish these aging legends would call each other out, The problem there would be no one to take him on,,,,, THE ENDING OF THIS SONG!!!!! ALSO DO not CALL OUT dERRINGER, FOR REAL. OH - HE TAUGHT YOU- YO- CHECK THIS GUY OUT. SAW HIM 1974 IN GEORGETOWN.

Man what at great performance. I remember seeing this show when I was about 17 years old and then I knew already that this song would follow me for a very long time. Today I'm nearly 40 years old and I just found this on You Tube and I see myself at the age of 17 watching this. Chills. Best moment at 6:26 with the drummer Andy Newmark.
Wow! Fell in love with this one!!!
A true masterful guide for all aspiring songwriters and muscians. Live it, write it then express it in such a way, your audience feel it effortlessly and are just taken straight away on the journey with their own similar experiences being brought in to play instantly, making them at one with the performer and his song becoming part of their being and recalled and relived when lifes least kind moments endeavour to weaken our already human frailties. Songs like this enrich the Soul and improve us as persons. Thank you Nils.
Delicate guitar making love to the woman he so desires. Pure musical poetry. Prodigious talent. Thanks for posting this.

Saw him perform this live with Ringo star in the 80s in Liverpool. Blew me away.
Perfect recording, as usual with '2 meter sessies'.

heard this on the radio at midnight while i was at work on thursday. loved it. can`t believe i`ve been on this planet 54 years and missed this exceptional artist,. bloody hell he`s good!!
Brings back good old memories ... 1979, I was just 18 years old and this song blew my mind off. Listened to it a 1.000 times on my bedroom in the Netherlands. And look now, he is still making beautiful music nowadays. His last single "Pretty Soon" is again a masterpiece. His music is absolutaly gorgeous !! IMHO ... I like him even more than The Boss ... Love Nils and his music !!
