My first camera was the Nikon FM. I bought the Nikon Z f like you buy a piece of jewelry. I was amazed by the increase in ISO, the stabilization and the ultra-fast focusing with the great acuity for tracking subjects.

I have a SmallRig grip on one of my Zfs and a Neewer one on my other Zf. Both are good, both have Arca Swiss compatible bases but the Neewer gives slightly more protection to the front of the camera where your fingernails might dig into the faux leather and it also has the vertical red Nikon stripe of old.

I am pleased that this camera has an Expeed 7 processor! I sold my Z6II and purchased the Zf and I haven't looked back.

I have the ZF and agree about the XQD as I moved from an original Z6 . You was saying about the iso . One way around this is to program the record button to iso control . You can then when the record button is pressed in photo mode , the front dial allows you to switch from auto iso to manual and the back dial to choose the iso settings. I also have the program button set to 3D tracking on and off . I my self am a left eye user so understand your problem. One way around this is to use the rear lcd where you can touch to take either focus or focus and shutter release. Love your videos.

Sony and Canon got no match for the ZF at this point, it is simply the most powerful camera in the $2000 segment

ZF is a logical choice for content creators who need to film themselves, particularly if you already have a lot of Nikon lenses. That fully articulate screen is a huge benefit. I'm soon to purchase either a ZF or a Z6III, just waiting for more concrete info on the Z6III, it it has a fully articulating screen I'll likely get that, if not, it will be ZF.

A simple way to fix your nose/joystick problem is to use the touch screen as a focus pad, a unique feature of this camera. You can select any part of the screen, such as the left corner, to do that.

You can use the touchscreen to set your focus point for your wrong eye shooting! 😃👍

I still think the main reason a fully articulated screen was used is to closer mimic a film SLR. A tilting screen would have an exposed screen making it look like a digital camera, something they may have decided was an odd look on the Nikon Df. Card wise it's really smart to have included another slot at all. You could take out the SD card and then hook up the camera via USB C to only transfer the micro SD files couldn't you? Saving wear and tear on the card and battery contacts. I hope Sony or Panasonic steal this backup micro SD card slot for the A7C series and if Panasonic want to make an interesting camera (I love what they're doing with their S5 series but I think they need to make a stylistic camera at some point, a full frame version of the Panasonic G6 would be an echo to Leica SLRs from the 90s).

I'm trying to make friends with the flip-out screen. I like that I can turn it in and close it, and maybe I'll get more photos of myself since it can face forward 🙂 I don't like that it flips out and off-axis for horizontal low & high shots, but to be fair it's also on-axis for verticals. The 4-axis tilt screen on my Z8 is ideal, but I'm starting to appreciate both types.

@@csc-photo I don't have any smart articulated screens but I hope more get implemented and the mechanisms get smaller. I feel like with the A7C I flip the screen in for 90% of shots 8% portraits (handy for socials as it's a social/travel camera) and 2% off to the side for overhead shots or low angles. Flipping the screen in sure helps when I'm shooting a comedy gig so I won't ever get a lit up face from the screen.

Very good review, I agree with points raised. Love using the ZF, has put the fun into shooting, much like the Fujifilm experience. Image quality is excellent and low light performance very good. Let go of Xt5 to buy the ZF.

Re: Moving focal point - not sure if this helps left-eye shooters, but you can also assign the Touch Fn feature to move your point around the screen using the display (a first for Nikon mirrorless models). The active areas of the screen are customizable too. Another nice feature with Touch Fn is you can set it to switch eyes in Subject Detection. I was apprehensive about the Zf, until I actually used it - now it's my daily carry and so much fun. Nice review here, thanks!

Auto - ISO.....you can program the video record button as an ISO button with the front and back controllers adjusting between Auto on/off and the desired ISO setting. An Auto setting on the top dial would have been the easy answer, but not a show-stopper. No joystick is more noticeable vs the other Nikon mirrorless cameras

Zf purchased about 2 weeks ago, and got to the f mount Voightlander 58 1.4. On FTZii. Wonderful. Able to control A and shutter with control wheels and use instant focus magnification and peaking on (set the) video button to do that! Can get pics fairly quickly with this. I never could do it well MF lenses with the Nikon DSLRs and so very much wanted to be able to zone focus with this lens (and the ais lenses I also have) / shoot from the hip and such. No more seeing so poorly to be able to MF whether in VF or live view on DSLR! One of the biggest lenses I have and just tried on Zf F-mount Tamron 35-150 f 3.8-4.0 on the adapter. Big and heavy combo makes a fuss to use, but I can. I have an Af-S 24-70 2.8 G but never went for 70-200. Just city walk around most of the time, anyway.
