@fortyseven i say we must be patient I want good food not fast.. I'm glad this thing has VR.. don't really care for the extra blur in the background.. just for quick behind-the-scenes or head shots..

New firmware for the Z30 too? Its having the Z9 red recording border..

This looks like a great addition paired with say the z50 as a lightweight option for taking photos or videos when hiking and backpacking.

I must say this is a great piece of equipment it is very useful for some of my small miniature videos..I think Nikon has did a an amazing job on this lens and yes I will purchase it Thank you B&H and Nikon..

Is this good on a Z6II for real state photography and videography?

This came out just when I needed it! Been thinking of getting my next lens after the z50 kit lens for landscape and astro images. Was hoping a native lens would pop up before getting the ftz adapter for f lens'.

I would have liked to see this as an f2.8 lens but it looks like it is marketed primarily for vloggers than photographers.

Too bad they didn’t integrate image stabilization inside the Z30 body. I love the image quality of my Z8 and was looking for a smaller Dx vlogging & travel package…when will Nikon implement super image stabilization inside the DX Z cameras ?

I guess I’ve been out of the market for a while. This is a DX size lens on the Z-series? So you’d be losing sensor area and resolution by using it on the Z7 FX size sensor?

Yes, that is correct. When using the Nikon NIKKOR Z DX 12-28mm f/3.5-5.6 PZ VR Lens on the full-frame Nikon Z7 Mirrorless Digital Camera and when using the *"Choose Image Area"* option under the Photo Shooting Menu or the Movie-Mode ** Menu and selecting the *[DX (24x16)]* option, the maximum recordable resolution will be reduced from 45 megapixels to 19.4 megapixels.

Question. I'm thinking of getting this lens with a Nikon zf. Would this be a good choice for drum vlogging with extra versatility?

It all depends on what you want your video to look like. This is a very wide angle lens, so it will pick up a lot in your felid of view. But still a good choice for vlogging.

Hi! Does the focal length show up on the screen somewhere? With the electronic ring there is no way to see the selected focal length when zooming.

Unfortunately, as of the date/time of this reply, there is not an option to view the focal length on the LCD screen or in the viewfinder during shooting. After shooting. the focal length can be viewed in the image's EXIF metadata or on the LCD screen during Playback, but not during shooting.

I contacted Nikon USA concerning your inquiry. According to Nikon USA, the Nikon Z50 Mirrorless Digital Camera does not currently have a firmware update available to support all of the power zoom features, but is still compatible with the Nikkor Z DX 12-28mm f/3.5-5.6 PZ VR lens. As of the date/time of this reply, we do not have any information concerning when a firmware update will be available for download.

Love this lens. I own a Z50 which always use with a F10-20. This lens would offer me the possibility to combine still and videoclips like np other. ATM I use my M43 set when traveling light. Nikon Z50 would be ideal. One question for you: the photos posted in the clip were JPEG or RAW? thanks,

Yes, the Vibration Reduction stabilization motor inside the Nikon NIKKOR Z DX 12-28mm f/3.5-5.6 PZ VR Lens (Nikon Z) may also be used with the in-body image stabilization inside Nikon DSLR cameras that have IBIS. That being said, do note that currenty, the only Nikon Z-mount cameras that have in-body image stabilization are the cameras that use the full-frame sensor, and the Nikon NIKKOR Z DX 12-28mm f/3.5-5.6 PZ VR Lens is designed for use on Nikon Z-mount cameras that use the smaller APS-C 1.6x cropped sensor. If you use the APS-C Crop Mode on a Z-mount camera with a full-frame sensor, then you can use both the camera's IBIS and the lens' VR together.

This is a great lens, only i want one zomm lens for apsc that is f2.8. Does anyone know the price of that lens?

Just got mine today. Great lens!!! Will replace my Tokina ,.. dx 11-28 f mount and save what feels like 10lbs of extra weight. Im gonna really like this new lens and the wide angle looks just as wide as the beometh Tokina lens . It will work on my tripod whilst I hand carry the 12/28 easily with my zfc.

Unfortunately we wouldn't have information about Nikon's future plans for this lens.

Ok, it seems to be a good lens with Z6 combo in 4k60p, if the internal IBIS can work along with lens based VR to reduce wobble. Edit: I forgot Z7 has almost full sensor readout for 4k60. Only Z6 applies.

So with all the detail, why not include the b&h price? Or add the filter size, and the fact that it probably may have issues with a polarizer or any stacking? I understand you guys sell stuff, but this might be helpful as well as the price.

We do not mention the price in the video because it could change after some time. As of today, 4.24.23, the price is $356.95. The filter size is 67 mm.

They should release a z50ii with real + and - buttons and a higher resolution viewfinder, then I might enjoy shooting aps-c more with this lens. For now z50 is my main macro camera.

If only it has a wider aperture. They should have gone for a 2.8 minimum here. Other than that it looks very good, but I already have the 13mm Viltrox with that all important F1.4 albeit no VR. Grrr, why don’t the camera makers give us what we really want!

With the Z50 the PZ from the camera Body is not available….

Technically, you can use this lens with the Nikon Z5. But the Z5 is a full frame sensor and the lens is for crop framed sensors. So when you mount this lens on the Z5 you will see a vignetting around the frame of the image, because the lens will not cover the whole sensor.

I think the average vlogger is way too self-centered, but this does seem like a good addition to the system.

I was thinking of going back to my nikon z6ii 14-30 that I recently sold. With this lens paired with my z50, I think I can hold off on it. the 12 - 28 fills my nitch that the 14-30 had on the z6ii. sort of. except for the f4. Let's see how sharp this compares. I dont care about the power zoom. I'm only for landscapes and occasional people. Not a VLOGGER

Yes, this lens has a plastic mount.

That’s 18-42mm FF equivalent.

@@CallMeRabbitzUSVI Same aperture as a typical kit lens. Perfectly normal for APS-C lenses. This costs a third of what FX superzooms cost. With VR you can shoot ultrawide at 1/8 s or so.

When they make a power zoom for the FX system (video specific) I'll be impressed. I have no use for this.

I think Nikon missed the mark with this one. Too many people trying to make a DSLR do the job of a camcorder. If I watched a vlog with that shaky footage that hits every footstep, I would be turning it off. Use something like a GoPro or Insta360 with an external mic and you can have rock solid smooth video.

After 4 desperate years this looks like the first Z lens Nikon made right and delivered what was missing. Of course the remaining Z lenses are pretty great optically, but always had some ergonomic flaws or were simply clones of what was on the market for a long time - cheaper and often smaller. The only rescue being the re-branded Tamron lenses (for a premium price with Nikon logo...). OK, the 800mm Z is attractive and the 24-200 is cool for travel with a single lens.

APS-C users want cheap lenses. They expect to pay $300-400 for a lens. If you want better lenses go full frame.
