exactly, what a dumb test, there was a clock in that tower, that would have made a much better zoom target

I have this camera. I love it, especially for the price.. The two annoying things are the batteries and lack of viewfinder. I just purchased rechargeable batteries, which pretty much solves the problem. The viewfinder thing is still annoying, but you can't find a flip-out screen on any camera at this pricepoint. The HD video is very good and it is much easier to use than a DSLR. I had a T3i before and it was too complicated for a beginner. This camera is good for someone like me who doesn't have time to learn complicated settings.

Within the settings, can you change the shutter speed and ISO? I read in a CNET review that you can't change the settings, which doesn't make any sense at all. Surely I am misinterpreting what they're saying.

Bought mine yesterday in the Argos sale, taken one photo with it so far and really impressed with the quality.

i had always wanted to take pictures but never really got much into it besides simple shots, of my kids or people, i bought this camera, and i was and am currently in love with it, i no longer use it much now i am now using a dslr nikon which i love even more, i shoot mostly live band stuff, as well as sunsets and moon stuff, as far as this camera goes you can and will be able to take some fantastic pictures, i highly recommend it, if you are just starting out, i'm on facebook and post alot of my pictures there. i really love this camera you will be able to get great pictures, but settings are limited as far as having full control of setting but gives you great options either way.

I'm a nail blogger currently looking to upgrade to a can instead of the phone I'm using right now. Would you say this is a good camara for close range pics?

Also, what setting do you have to change to make the zoom on the video zoom faster? My L830 zooms in and out slow.

Hi! I am loving my Coolpix L830 and having no technical difficulties, but I seemed to have gotten stuck and lost in the different scene modes that you can use. I was exploring them all but I cannot seem to be able to go BACKWARDS to the original set of scene modes that have the landscape. I use landscape a lot. I NEED to get back to that! I wonder if you could help me figure out how to go back to landscape? I would think that it is a simple thing, but I have been spending a lot of time trying to get back there with no results at all. The flash can't be in active more than half a second. Flashes use capacitors to power them up immensely just to fire once, so if the flash is active continuously then you will run out of batteries in 5 min or your camera will get heated up so much that it might melt the circuits inside.

That would be a matter of depth-of-field settings. So if you stand away from the object, and zoom in so the zoom is somewhere between 80mm and 200mm (equivalent lens) you should get a blurred background, depending on how far away the background is from the object.

These cameras aren't really suitable for movement/action indoors in that kind of light level. To do well with that, you'll really need an SLR with a wide aperture lens. The larger sensor will allow you to use a higher ISO setting and the wide (low f-number) aperture will allow more light in. Lenses like that can get pricey, but you may be able to get away with a more standard lens if the gyms are lit well and you can get close to the action. Look for some indoor wrestling pics online that you're satisfied with and look at the exif data to see the camera settings (shutter speed, aperture, & ISO).

Unfortunately most companies make their cameras record under 30 minutes by default per video because of some shipping tariff. If they record more than 30 mins they are considered video cameras. ;(

Yeah, It's dumb why would a tax law be any different for a "video" camera vs a "still" camera today? Most still cameras do video and most camcorders can do snaps. (and phones do both as well) a camera is a lens on a box! Typical government stupidity!

No, you'd have to use a DSLR for that. I *have* seen some cameras with adapters to make the zoom stronger, or make it more wides angle (especially Canon S2IS/S3IS) but am not aware of any adapters for this camera.

No. There is No light inside these. The Flash is caused by a capacitor that charges and discharges within the system. The power is just sent through a fine element inside the flash which is what causes the Flash. You could put some red cellophane or something over it if that's what you want to do how to make it look red.

I got this camera, it is really good. But I can't figure out what causes the following problem. As soon something moves. It is blurred.... anyone know what I need to use? I tried the sports mode. But no change...

Can't update firmware on P600 from 1.0 to 1.2 :( First the camera said "update failed" Then i tried formatting the SD and copy the firmware to it again and now the camera does not even show the option to update, only the current version 1.0 :( And firmware 1.0 will not charge my dead spare batter. Arghhh!

Would this be a good camera for makeup tutorial videos? As in does it catch lighting well and does it autofocus very well during a video where a lot of close up will take place? Plz answer back Karl Conrad

The Autofocus isn't that good. You also don't need this much zoom for a makeup tutorial IMO. For makeup, try and get a camera that has a flip screen so you can see what you are doing on camera. (Sony NEX)

Got this for Christmas unexpectedly. I've been wanting to get into photography for a while (Wanting to get the Nikon D53/5500 for a real DSLR) Didn't even know this existed until I got it haha. I like it so far, it's a good beginner camera, very simple to use, not too much going on so you can just point and shoot

I find this to be a really nice camera for its price. It shoots close-ups relatively well as well as composed shots in general. There are limitations on exposure settings, but it's not too much of a hassle unless you are shooting at...low light. However, its video quality out weighs its cons tremendously. The zoom is long and cinematic, plus this camera shoots 1080p video at 60fps, which is a peg up from most entry level cameras. Simply because, my entry level Canon T5 Rebel and entry level GoPro 3 Silver both shoot at 1080p, but only at 30fps.

Question: Are there any external lens that can be attached to this. Love mine, but I'm trying to be more professional.

It has a fixed lens, unfortunately. The only special about this is the 34x zoom for a very good and inexpensive price. I think everything else is very basic on this camera when it comes to point and shoot. I just literally watched your review on this camera about ten minutes ago. lol

I'm not sure if this helps or not, but I do see the camera has an AC adapter port, but it'd be a separate purchase. Now, depending on the type.duration of time lapses you're thinking of doing, many people will do so by taking a large number of photographs at intervals, and then combining those into a video. Most cameras can't be set to take enough photos by themselves, and need to be hooked up to a computer or tablet to control them, but that's more in DSLRs than this type of camera. I'm not professing to be an expert, but it's just things to think about.

It will also depend if you want a close up autofocus on your subject (e.g your eye). You might want to test out the camera the cam at a shop on macro shooting. Nikon specified it at 1 cm minimum focusing distance. www.nikon.com.sg/en_SG/product/digital-compact-cameras/life/coolpix-l830#techspecs

olivia bartenn TheNBPM this camera is a great camera and has great HD, the autofocus does come in handy so if you wanted to do makeup tutorials you could but I recommend maybe one with a flip lens that you could see your face in the lens but other than that the camera will do the job so i recommend it and the videos come out great with the lexar 1080 HD card!

Well to say the least, this camera is the most practical to use! Well, that is if you don't have really a complicated preferences like other professional photographers. If you are just into for casual photography that you use everyday, then this camera is the best choice!
