Nice review and very useful. I've used an HX400V for almost five years, so seeing it compared to the P1000, gives me a very good idea of how this Nikon camera will perform.

Did you get e:62:10 error on your hx400v?

@@EE-pe8br Yes, I started getting that error indication about two years ago. You can remove it by removing the battery when the camera is turned on and the next time you turn it on, the error indication is gone. But it will return the next time, unless you repeat the procedure. I've just learned to ignore it, as it doesn't affect the photo or video recording.

@@stevemcdonald1033so the problem is stabilisation is getting off and when you zoom in the image is shaking very much? it should not affect a lot when you are in 24mm focal lenght?(zoomed out), how much does it affect when zoomed in, is it possible to take pictures with 50x zoom? Have you tried to take photos with tripod? It shouldnt be shaky in that way? Or if you put settings in fast shutter speed the picture should be sharp. I want to buy this camera its the best (for its price) for my taste and interest but i am afraid because of this problem. Is the problem that big?

@@EE-pe8br There is no problem like that with the HX400V. I always use some type of shoulder-mount or monopod with it and get good results at all zoom levels. I wouldn't have been satisfied with it for 6 years, if it hadn't been a very good performer. If it had 4K video, I would probably still be using it and wouldn't have bought an AX53.

Anyone know why the HX400 creates a new video file every 10 min on a 30 min recording?

Is it any good at sunset captures and lowlight captures of wildlife in fields at a distance of Field length

I have the P1000 but the Sony clearly has nicer photo quality with a sharper lens and more DR which is what bothers me the most about the Nikon, the dull out of camera photos. Of course, 3000mm is a LOT more than 1200mm.

Nikon Love the Zoom Range for outdoor daylight hours Sony would be better all around travel camera .

Good fair comparison video. Sony for me please. I have reached my level with the HX300 and HX400v and I have both. I also have Lumix FZ80 with 60x zoom and 4k etc, but the Sonys are my end all be all. I have even tried a couple Nikon DSLRs but we definitely didn't get along.

Form zoom point of view nikon is the clear winner but when it comes to mid range pics i noticed sony takes awesome pics for average person. Sony h400 is my back up and go to camera . Lately sony quality went down but still i love it

Thank you for this detailed and interesting comparison. On specification levels P1000 has some advantages (higher zoom, better video, orientable LCD) but one should not underestimate the size and weight of such a device, especially for use in a "point and shoot" situation. There are some differences in picture quality but basically both devices have a 1/2.3" sensor so, as you outline, they will show their limits in low light conditions. HX400 might be a better "all-purpose" choice for the average user with a lower price but since it suffers the very well known E:62:10 structural problem, we unfortunately can't advise to buy one before SONY fixes that recurring problem !

Finally got around to looking up the structural problem. Yeah, that is a genuine deal breaker. Now that I've look around at other cameras, if It wasn't for that I'd buy the HX400V without question.

If message E.62.10 => Try to: - block slightly with one hand the zoom at launch or - remove battery when zoom is max, plug in again and turn on. If it works then all should work and the message E.62.10 will reappear only at next turn on.

What is the actual focal range of the lens? AND, here in 12/2020, has SONY solved the E:62:10 error? Many Thanks for a great review!

great comparison, i have the Sony HX350, same as the HX400 but without wifi, nfc, and GPS... Your comparison was good, but given the hefty price difference i dont think the P1000 is worth the £650 or more price difference between them seeing as their is little difference in the real world, its very negligible..

' no be different both cameras... both cameras are good and still problem with bad blur focuses plus depth of fields plus brightness / contrastness... cannot adjustment / cannot fix - repair

Сравнивать нужно качество снимков любой зеркалки с Р-1000, с разного расстояния. Пока с зеркалкой бежит к объекту,,,, P-1000 уже отлично снимет в подробностях. А если UFO появится на большом удалении, придётся c зеркалкой поближе к UFO бежать галопом. Инженеры NIKON,,, классно постарались, для очень многих, спасибо им. Мне кажется будущие технологии на стороне убойных зумов.

If zoom is not concern - definietly FDR AX53 - much, much better video quality, stabilization and portability. You can also consider Sony a6300.

I just bought the Sony AX53, instead of the P1000. So far, I'm very pleased with both the photo and video quality. I have an older Sony 1.7X telextender which I can use with the AX53, with good results, but a couple of Raynox 2.2X telexes will not allow sharp focusing.

@@stevemcdonald1033 I bought AX53 too and it's pretty great, photo quality is good, but not perfect, however, video quality is just what I need. Using a tele-extender, that's a good idea, I didn't know that it works with this type of camera. That's cool.

I bought a Nikon P1000 and took it back. I wanted a larger viewfinder but the camera was just too heavy. Plus I did comparisons on flowers like you did and my Sony won every time. I've had my Sony DSC hx400V for 4 years. I like the 100x zoom on the HX400v with the lighter weight body. I've been told my nature photos look professional. So I'm confused does the hx400 have 50x zoom but the hx400V has 100x zoom capability? Are they different cameras? Your video was great at comparing.

The HX400V only has 50x optical zoom plus 50x smart zoom (a better digital zoom)

Sue Collins oh I’m sorry ☹️ I thought you had same as mine, but hey not worry about it yeah what I love about the this camera is that that the zoom is great and the feel about it’s amazing big. I use it for watching the moon 🌙 and also the stars ⭐️ for us they are stars but in Reality they are big shining planets 🪐. From where I live I can see Venus and Saturn 🪐 Uranus I try to get a clear picture of them but not so good although I have a telescope 🔭 but still trying my best to learn but thanks for your reply to me 🙏🙏🙏

HX400 has 50x Zeiss lens, better quality / H400 has 63x sony common lens, more dark and less resources.

What about the bus vs. Car, which one is the best? sry but compare Nikon P1000 vs Sony HX400 did not make sense.

Sensor size on both is the same, picture quality pretty much the same, you should think about that someone wants to know how much extra reach there will be with 125x compared to 50x in real world, because differance is not always that big.

It depends on your needs. For casual all-around shooting I would go with HX400 (cheaper, little bit better auto mode; beaware of e:62:10 issue though - some say it's common), for someone heavy into the superzoom market - P1000 for sure. There some other cheaper options like Coolpix B700/B600 etc. also 😉

Toy camera for people that like big numbers more than photography

Traded in my HX400 for the P1000. No comparison! The P1000 is super. Pic quality sucks on both, bu then you can't expect quality from small rinky-dink sensors. But for video, the P1000 is a wow!

you must be rich and dont bother seeing price tag. also see what you get for more than double price.

They both have tiny sensor, Ok for viewing on your phone but no good for printing to canvas or large prints, Also no good for taking shots of wildlife in woodland or low light,

Its over twice the price 😂😂 that should have the sony be the winner instantly half the price but not much worse

It made me furious he got both cameras pointing the sky and no moon shots and he's name is galaxy wtf
