Thanks for the subscribe Evan! These lenses have performed great for us and we shoot both docu style and commercial work and they’ve been handy for quick projects. Hope you like them!

Really informative. Wondering if you have any advice on some of the other lenses in this set. You mentioned they were tricky and I’ve run into a snag with adapting the 24mm F2.

Very cool. I'm collecting my Nikkor lenses currently. I've got the 24, 50, 85, and 105 so far. I'm actually trying to find a rehousing company that is more reasonably priced than Zero Optik. They also have a massive backlog. I like the Cine mods but would absolutely love the longer focus throw and corrected breathing. Love the look of these old Nikkors

Thanks for posting! About to do my own set of AIS. This was super helpful. I'm most afraid of stripping the original screws as I try to take them out. I'll be sure to use the soldering iron trick. Any tips if this doesn't work? Thanks!

As someone building their own set of nikkor ai s lens I recently found that the ai and ai s produced during the switch have the same optics and the ai lens have longer focus throughs, is there a reason people still buy the ais versions instead. My reason for asking is the ai lens are sometimes cheaper and I was wondering if there any differences I should know about before buying more?

Check out Ken Rockwell and Richard Haw. They review a majority of all the Nikon lenses and explain the differences. To my limited knowledge, while some AI-S version carry over the same optics, some actually have vastly improved optics / ergonomics. Also all of the ai-s lenses have an improved coating.

Why do we declick lenses for video? Or why declicked lenses are better for video?

  • @TenfoldProduction

Declicked just makes switching between apeture's a bit easier and smoother. Especially in filmmaking.

@@TenfoldProduction off course... In what kind of shooting scenario/effects one would want to change the aperture while rolling. Can you give an example of shot type or something where its been used?

@@harshsingh6692 truthfully, more of just a convenience and preference thing, not that we really use it all the time practically.

@@TenfoldProduction I usually set my aperture based on the depth in focus i want. Rest i compensated by lighting and nd filters. And i never need to change the aperture while rolling, even in doc shoots because I'm able to control the amount of light through nd filters. I'm asking this since I'm about to purchase bunch of manual lenses and they have two versions with declicked being slightly expensive. And i was wondering what kind of situation i can benefit from declicked version.

  • @TenfoldProduction

@@harshsingh6692 yeah we do the same. We only prefer declicked as it’s more standard across the industry. It’s more for 1st AC’s and for people that rent it out. Makes life a little easier / simpler on set to maneuver. You also get fractional aperture changes with declicked, vs the exact ones set on a clicked ring.
