I don't think so. Jokic had a better season than Embiid, but it is pretty close, Embiid closed a lot of the gap from the year before, at least on paper, and Jokic and the nuggets resting toward the end didn't help the MVP case. Mostly though it is because MVPs have never been consistently awarded to the best player. They are always spread around. If they were always given to the best, how many more would Wilt, Kareem, MJ and Lebron all have? It's not a huge robbery that Jokic got the same treatment as past alltimers.

@@kanajingly8957 Embiid had a PIE of 21.3, Jokic 21.1 (Embiid 21.2 last year, Jokic 23.0 last year). Embiid had a PER if 31.4, Jokic of 31.5 (he was 32.8 last year and Embiid was 31.2). Jokic still ahead in BPM, VORP and WS, but not as ahead as before. So the argument becomes arcane stats and team offense vs palpable defensive presence and voter fatigue. Did Embiid play as well as Jokic, no, but that's just how the MVP works, so many examples, Charles Barkley 1993 over Jordan and Olajuwon, Robinson over Olajuwon a bit after that, etc. In both cases everyone, or most people, knew the "real MVP" and it showed in the finals or on the way. I've watched almost all Nuggets games this year and I keep trying to figure out what the deal is with Jamal. I'm sure the dude is aware he's playing with one of the very best passers of all time. So what exactly is he thinking when he goes into his iso mode of dribbling the air out of the ball for the entire shot clock then jacking up an incredibly difficult shot when he's got Jokic on the floor with him to give him easier looks? He does this several times every single game. He seems like a stand-up guy so I keep giving him the benefit of the doubt by not thinking this is an ego issue, that this isn't him trying to prove all the people saying "Bubble Murray" wrong to the detriment of the Nuggets' amazing team basketball. Maybe all these years of playing with Jokic just hasn't made his basketball IQ any better.

I wasn't expecting anything out of MPJ after the max contract and his injury but he improved himself alot. Honestly if we lose to Phoenix both of them are gonna be called upon. Jamal needs to be focused and consistent and Malone can't be the regular season coach. And if they stay and nothing changes in the way Denver plays, then they're gonna waste his prime. Jamal Murray is a selfish and low-IQ player. Nothing goes through his mind. He has a one good game in a series, and then he imagines he can do it all series long. He sees Booker rolling on the other and think he can and has to do the same. A contested mid-range is the least efficient play in basketball and only an idiot would try to do that consistently, unless they are called KD or Booker (and even they have a bad day with it so it evens out). Murray shot something like 30% for a few weeks at the end of season, which is why Nuggets kept losing which cost Jokic MVP. If the Nuggets don't win the series with Phoenix, both Malon and Murray have to go.

@GlassOnion23 you said it, that is what I see all the time and I am amazed by it. Jamal just ignores everyone, does his thing, often in the middle of a Jokic momentum, when Jokic has back to back baskets...he takes over and you see everyone on the court from Denver standing and waiting Jamal to dribble himself and 5 other players... like when you play pick up as a kid and you have a dude who knows nothing but wants to prove he can score so he dribbles everyone until he shoots. Feel like compared to Booker, Jamal contribues less with assists, Booker had bunch of those skip assists to Shamet and Jamal tries 2 on 2 with Jokic OR dribbles endlesslly. On top of it that run and gun 3 p from MJP for no reason buried them

Not the best decision, but not an outright terrible one either, he's supposed to be a good shooter and good shooters are supposed to have license to do that. MPJ, despite being not too great of a defender, has been much more defensively responsible than Murray has.
