Niki Lauda - Lost But Won
Like a phoenix Niki Lauda ascended from the ashes.
Facing death in an hospital bed, a priest visited him to read him his last rights.
Agains all odds, only 4 weeks after the enormous and almost tragic accident in the Nurburgring, he appeared to race at the Monza Grand Prix.
He would go on to become the legend we all know, winning 3 world championships and the hearts of millions of fans around the world.
Niki Lauda.

Niki was THE BRAINS and THE MENTAL FORTITUDE. I remember I almost collapsed that terrible day in August 1976. But, "Thank God" (as he used to say), he came back (with the great help of Arturo Merzario...)

i was "introduced" to Niki and F1 in general by the news coverage of his accident. And I never looked back. saw him in the pits walking out of the Ferrari motorhome @ Hockenheim in '77 after Friday practice. Managed to get a pic of him using my Kodak (no zoom no nothing), in black and white no less. Pic somehow got lost in the jumble of life.

The best and most important F1 driver in history.Why?Several reasons.He left a bulletproof life of family background of banking and politics to fulfill his dreams in motorsports. Because he raised F1 racing to a scientific level, preparing and setup the car to the best it can reach in physics and improving F1 safety. Excellent tribute! The Man who’s books I first found when I initially discovered F1 back in the late 70’s. Lucky enough to meet him at the Long Beach GP, and get him to sign his own book: “The art & science of Grand Prix driving.”

I don’t know how widely this is known, but I believe the reason he retired in Japan in 1976 was entirely visual. As a result of his accident he had no eyelashes and could not clear his eyes in the rainy conditions.🤔

Noticed at least you gamberretes. Been feelin something wasnt what the real thing is 🤨 As you know im taking one of my last meals of pain n lets call it crap n after watching F1....stronger. Enormous thanks to my special one cos some weeks ago she made clear I had to be calm with a couple of details. At least they come with somethin a bit different.
