Hi Matt.....thanks for the video! At the end of the April, I ran the Mississauga Marathon. I was able to use the Alphafly 3's during that race for the first time. I also have the VF 3's....awesome shoe......but I chose the AF's because of the extra cushioning. The AF's didn't disappoint. They felt great during the marathon....especially in the later stages and even on a very hot day....propelled me to a PB. As well, after the race and in the days after, I felt no soreness in my legs. I plan on using them for both of my fall marathons. All the best!

Nice going with the PB in the AF3s! That feeling you described, or not feeling, is the very best benefit of super shoes! It’s great when we don’t feel absolutely thrashed after a marathon! Which two fall races are on your schedule?

With the very narrow heel, I think that later into the race when fatigue sets in and the form breaks down, that heel strikers might struggle with this shoe. Mercifully, I'm a mid to forefoot striker. Thx, Matt.

Well done for Nike to send Matt!!! I'm truly excited to race in this shoe in the fall. I have run in it a couple times but since my high hamstring insertion, I've been stuck going EZ pace so no AF3 miles. It really was magical and I've been really happy with the AF V1 for all my marathons except the last one, VF 3. Huge PB/PR. LOL Still needed the AF3!!!

@@its_Matt_B_ Just taking it day by day really. It's been 3.5 weeks since I shut down anything other than Z2. I do "butt exercises" everyday and added isometric exercises in last week. Making progress but sometimes these can last months, not weeks. Anyway, I'll be running the 26.2 in Sydney Australia in September for the Marathon Majors AG World championships. My 3:08 at CIM got my an auto invite. Probably will just be a long run as I had already scheduled Chicago in early October for a 3:05 attempt. Then, as a crazy add on, I signed up for the Daytona 100 in December. Just going to enjoy the scenery from Jacksonville to Daytona!

@@its_Matt_B_ Things were going along soooo good and then this. Its all good. I'm still getting 50-60 miles a week of Z2 work in for 5 days of running. Once I heal up and add in specificity, I'll be ready to crush things. Aerobic base is huge right now. This may have just been a blessing in disguise.

Eddbud is also having some squeaking issues with the pods. He posts pictures with WD40 next to the shoe. I am a heel lander but my Marathon PR came in Alphafly 1. I really like 6-8mm drop and with 4mm drop Alphafly 1 was like negative drop while walking but felt normal when running. It worked for me. I think more than propulsion, the plate was just providing stability for me and pods and foam gave me the energy return and prevented the fatigue from setting in. I still have that Alphafly with me and will probably going to run another marathon in them. My second pair of Alphafly 1 developed a vertical crack in the foam so I had to send it back to Nike (awesome warranty). I ran my 10K and HM PR in Vaporfly 2. I do have Vaporfly 3 and I am considering running my next marathon in them as they are a bit more stable for me. I would like to try Alphafly 3 sometime but I will wait for some sort of deal and it could be a long wait but I do have more super shoes than I need anyway. I recent also got a pair of Mizuno Wave Rebellion Pro 2.

It’s a tricky balance between the release of so many awesome running shoes and fiscal responsibility. 🤣 Good to hear you’ve had such success in the AF1 with your marathon PR and I’m a little surprised you ran your shorter PRs in the VF2s. I suppose it’s more a matter of the shoes you chose on the day rather than a specific shoe being ideal at a specific distance. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I have the AF3 and the VF3, and love them both more than any other shoes I own (which is many). Every time I lace the AF3 up, I wind up improving on my times. Perhaps it's placebo, but I just want to go faster. I wish Nike would build a shoe with zoom X, this style upper, and a carbon plate with a more robust outsole for training. I'm know the AF3 and VF3 won't last which is why I don't use them for daily use. The Zoom Fly 5 is not the answer, it doesn't feel anything like these shoes and recycled zoom X is a joke in comparison. Maybe if the fix the Zoom Fly and make it a proper super trainer in the next version.... they really need a trainer alongside the next % line up.

My worst race ever was in the alphafly V3 and my best was in alphafly V-1..pretty much the same upper but the biggest change was the drop went from 4mm to 8mm..the higher drop is also the only shoe that ever gave me hamstring cramping while racing..I think it's a good 5k or 10k shoe but definitely not a 1/2 or full marathon shoe for me ..

So you're saying your worst race ever was in the same shoe that holds the world record at the marathon?🤣Nike must be doing something right, but this brings up an excellent reminder that no every super shoe is right for every runner. You attribute your performance to the higher drop where as for me the shortcoming with the AF3 is the geometry. One day we'll each have bespoke shoes tailored specifically for us for each distance!

Would the upper loosen up after a few runs? In Nike store, I tried size 7 and my toes are a bit tight together . I tried size 7.5, while toes can move freely, I felt a bit of heel slip and I needed to tie the shoes laces down a lot. So not sure what size I should go for. I run in novablast 4, NB1080 and gel nimbus 25 all in size 7.5, which is half size larger than my non-running trainers.
