There a famous couple's therapy session by Mark Gungor called "Tale of two brains" or the famous book "Men are from Mars, Woman from Venus" by John Gray (this is my favourite gift - that I give at weddings) Both this touch on a general gender trait - Woman solve their problems by talking - that is they need to talk to get over a stressful situation or overcome a problem or to even express / fully enjoy a happy occasion etc. But Men if they are stressed or worried - they like to isolate and work on the problem. He will talk about his problem to someone only if he is not able to find a solution or have some doubts on his solution ! This is the basic friction point - when a woman and talks - the guy's instincts tell him to solve it - but woman just want his to shut and listen. Similarly when a guy is withdrawn - he wants to be left alone ! If he not able to solve, he will come to you or someone else to talk - the last thing he needs, is for the woman to pester and get him to "open up"
