Got room for one more in the army??? Im 47 and for some unknown reason have just discovered this band in the last six months and its the only thing i listen to for the most part since. My fav band is TOOL and the similarities in these long epic journeys is something i loved right away. THese are not songs...they are compositions. What i wouldnt do to hear Floor sing with TOOL...id die a very happy man...most likely on the spot. Love this band, all of them! Floor makes me cry like a lil wuss but i dont care, besides her the rest of the band is fkn amazing! Studio quality musicians in a somewhat unknown gem of a band. I just mean unknown here *canada*. Forever a fan now. cheers all and thank you to all those that have posted such amazing facts about the band in the comments to get the rest of us ignorant fools up to speed. You guys are awesome. Im a 45 yo man who thinks of himself as pretty “life tough”...I’m a wreck every time with the strings and Floor’s voice in the Pacific. Part of that is knowing the backstory of this song but regardless her emotion conveyed in that part is so heartbreaking. Tuomas is truly the modern day Mozart and having Floor as a vocalist to express the emotion of his writing is really not fair. Then you add Marko and it’s game over. I hope they at some point get the recognition they deserve in the US. They are the truly the greatest band I’ve ever heard.

Cardiff has been replaced by Birmingham NEC in May. Couldn't get tickets for that OR Wembley! 😭😤 Floor's probably back on her way to Sweden after being in The Netherlands yesterday for a TV Awards show where Beste Zangers was nominated. The pcture she posted on her community tab was astonishing. She even makes a mask beautiful! I think she's been getting makeup tips from a certain lady of this Parish.. 😉 I saw Anette doing this from the Montreux Jazz Festival 2012 (odd booking for Nightwish). Gawd. Anette was really flat in several parts. I didn't even get a solitary goosebump. She had the stage presence of Rice Pudding. Today's Nightwish is a million miles from that. They even smartened up since Floor joined. 🤘❤️

Floor's solo shows for next weekend and week are postponed to december but I know for sure that will be way too early because of the virus here 😢😢😢

I can't count how many times I've listened to this song, but "Sparkle my scenery..." and "Be still my son..." and the onion ninjas are still out in force every sodding time.

This was the most beautiful, emotional and touching reaction to The Poet And The Pendulum I have ever witnessed. Thank you Tauri for being you.

This band is sooooooo much better live. They not only reproduce perfectly but they take it too a whole new fkn level...amazing. I am now a huge NIGHTWISH fan....and a brand new one at that. I kick myself for not realizing that this epic band was out there. Better late then never, hope the army has room for one more??

While I certainly agree they are brilliant live, i think new fans that don't listen to the studio albums do themselves a disservice of more of Tuomas' brilliance by not listening to these songs in the context they were originally presented on the albums. So much deep track stuff all over them.

Floor not sing a song, Floor lives the song and gives us a floorgasmus.

Perfect reaction Tauri. Floor is more than empathic, she has Hypersensitivity. It's a clinical condition that often causes the emotions of others (whether real or perceived) to trigger your own and can also produce deep depression, anxiety and extreme happiness. You can see it in her eyes during Mother and Father. She is probably being overwhelmed at that moment. I'm also hypersensitive and can't imagine what she must be going through. I have to mute the end of the song during reactions. It doesn't really help cause the song just plays in my head, I'm still a wreck, but every time I see Tuomas smile it heals me a just little bit. Much love little sister.

Even knowing this song so well, like you clearly do Tauri, it just shows you what a master composition this was by Tuomas. The emotions it still evokes in you, and indeed in all of us, is a testament to that. Good to have you back Tauri, fingers crossed you get to a NW concert in the near future

I always wonder what Emppu says to Tuomas. Tuomas smiles and you can read Tuomas' lips saying "Joo" that's "Yes". I don't believe Emppu simply asks: "Are you doing OK?" I believe he says something funnier, more indirect. He might be saying: "Floor is doing a good job/just fine!" Or "Everything's going as planned!" The Idea is to make Tuomas feel lighter that's obvious to me too. But what exactly Emppu says I don't know.

Att the end (sitting down) Floor is looking att Tuomas ,Her eyes saying "sorry Tuomas but you want me to sing like this ",,Gets me ewery time (2-300 times so far ! Still counting !) and Emppus and Markos support at the end !! Stay safe you all.

Excellent job Tauri, nobody says that a reaction to a song has to be a 'first take.' I have a feeling this song will take its place with 'Master Passion Greed' and 'Bye Bye Beautiful' as tunes for a specific time and place but played in concert no more. Just as well, hope fences are mended somehow and all members past and present thrive and make good music.

Couldn't agree more. Although I prefer first listen for a proper "reaction", this one is kinda unique, especially considering she gave the whole backstory of it. I'm not a metalhead nor a die-hard Nightwish fan, but they've started growing on me since Floor. I've heard them before, ages ago, but was too hard for me at the time and Tarja being extremely operatic the style just became too much. I'm more into prog when I crave active listening. Thanks for the story Tauri.

"Search for beauty. Find your shore." IF I even make it that far without leaky eyes, that is where I always lose it. Watching Tuomas sing along with Floor and Marco does me in.

This is such a POWERFUL song, so unique with many key changing and melody. An absolutely roller coaster of emotions on this one.

Love this song as it really pulls on the heart strings Tauri, I have lost three family members in less than five years and every Nightwish song is a ladder rung which helps me climb up from despair. Love this band and love your reaction stay safe and best wishes from Australia. 🤟🎶

I've been listening nightwish since 1997 and I still get goosebumps from their stuff, be it tarja, anette or floor...

so so nice to hear a fellow nightwish army member reacting to the best band in the universe. I found them by accident in 1999 in a far off place south africa. there is and never be a band like them.

Oh here it is. This song is an absolute masterpiece. I love how enthusiastic you are about the band, each member, and the song. It’s perfectly fine and expected that you will cry. I don’t always cry to this song but when i do there’s a lot.

Thank you, Tauri. I can’t watch this without tears, no matter how hard I try. I notice that every time I follow, particularly with Tuomas on stage and I'm wondering frequently, is that he made with his hand off the neck of a spontaneous act on stage or hand-written. One way or another, it hits me every time. And Floor’s interpretation here, as you told it goes deep. I wish you all the best and I believe that your plans will come true.

Thanks Tauri for that beautiful insight in what was a very emotional performance, I also agree in that Nightwish is also my most favorite band. What stands out for me is the way they really personalize each song, especially Floor, you can really witness all the drama & acting skills the she studied years ago & then put that with her amazing voice !!

Hi Tauri, That boy soprano at the beginning, just like the titles for "Tinker, Taylor, Soldier, Spy", on UK TV, with Sir Alec Guiness (Umm, to old for you maybe). The acceleration at the beginning, woohoo. The Pendulum, inspired from the book and film "The Pit and the Pendulum". Have you seen that oldie? You know this was an ultra-personal song written by Tuomas, notice how Emppu goes to check on him, and later, Marco, giving emotional support. The ominous brass, 3 minutes and counting, check the time in 3 minutes... Acceleration again, Marco shouting, softened by Floor who gets louder. Floor sings the words of Tuomas's mother: "Be still my son, you're home. When did you become so cold... All you need is feel my love". Did you notice Tuomas, he is barely holding it together. Marco moves over to join Emppu. Ending with the Siren.

Part 5, "mother and father" , gets me every time

every freaking time i listen to this song (i lost count, at least 250 times), i tear up. and it is not the only one. i'm a 60 year (within a few days 61) old hard rock/prog fan. my youth was filled with deep purple, rush, ac/dc, pink floyd, black sabbath, jethro tull, yes, bad company, a dutch band called alquin (not so well known but very good, check out 'sunrise') and numerous others. what is it with Nightwish that they bring out those emotions? I never had that with the other bands except for 'made in japan' by deep purple (my absolute favourite). is it the compositions of Tuomas? is it Floor? is it the complete band and the love that goes around? I know of Nightwish since 2008, thanks to within temptation ('stand my ground', i was looking for similar music) and found Nightwish. one day i saw a live video of them, and i'm sorry to say, but Annette was sounding very pitchy and off beat, although i loved her studio work. that threw me off a little and therefore lost them along the way. until i saw that Annette was replaced by Floor. and i was hooked. now that i'm retired i have more time available to watch them and my feelings and appreciation are only growing. For sure since i started to pay more attention to the lyrics. Tauri, you have a beautiful soul. stay safe and keep on rocking. greetings from belgium.

Thanks for great reaction! Unusual to say, but US is behind on appreciation of a great art form; but I am committed on changing that. Only found this amazing band in last two months, but has been life changing. Their songs, camaraderie, teamwork, touch the soul. I am a proud member of the NW Army.

Love for our Tauri :) , and as Floor says this was a night to remember I will never forget it that's for shore , only thing I liked in London was this concert

The studio and live versions with Anette couldn't even hold a candle to the way Floor performs this song live. It is almost like two different songs.

Imagining what it would sound like if a mere mortal suffering from depression tried "vomiting" their feelings on paper, it's inconceivable how Tuomas could create this magnificent beauty from such a bad place. Not just the music but the poetry of the lyrics as well. * As Nighwish's frontwoman and from her solo efforts, Tarja has been a darling of Finnish tabloids and women's magazines. When she was fired, especially the tabloids presented it as monstrous heavy metal men bullying the princess. The screaming headlines were on the front covers, as well on the stands before all supermarket cash registers - you couldn't escape it except by staying home.

What does the narrating voice whisper as Empuu and Marco go over to Tuomas at the end? No video of this with the lyrics has ever caught that and I can't make it out. While the rest of this song will have me in tears already, the camera right on Tuomas as he mouths the words "Try to save them all, bleed no more" just destroys me every time.

They will do a full US tour, I have no doubt. This has been what they do for the past decade or so, at least, they do a quickie tour of NYC and LA, then come back the following year and do a full tour. 😀

Hey Tauri, great reaction as always! My take on this is that, without knowing it at the time, Tuomas wrote this piece, to be sung by Floor. I mean, Anette has a good voice, but could never carry a piece as difficult as this one. It's like asking Floor and or Tarja (who are both good operatic singers), to do a real operatic aria, like Maria Callas used to do. Both, Floor and Tarja, in 2013, gave it a go at Puccini's - O Mio Babbino Caro, and both don't even come close. If you don't know Maria Callas, look her up. To me she's the best operatic soprano that has ever lived. I feel like Floor revived this song, the album version with Anette feels almost robotic, I mean she has a beautiful voice, but didn't really do it for this one, while Floor gave it every emotion Tuomas must have felt when he wrote it, also Marko, she brings the pain out, he is pure anger, both are perfect, also love how he and Emppu take turns to check on Tuomas, I used to cry every single time I heard it, goosebumps everywhere, especially in The Pacific and Mother & Father, those two parts still get me so emotional. The part where it says "I'm afraid, so afraid..." Gives me so much anxiety, even today :( then Tuomas' gesture of cutting his own throat, gives me an awful feeling of desperation. At the very end, Floor sounds like a mourning siren for the loss of a loved one, in this case, our poet
