3:05 Tarja's voice is so dark and heavy during this era. She had a true gothic voice. I love her vocals in Century Child, her voice was so naturally dreary and grim compared to all the light sopranos during the rising popularity of symphonic metal at this time. She always stood out. Such an iconic song. So young but still delivered vocal performances like this most females in this industry can't even come close too.

Funnily enough the original musical concept was supposed to be more rock but got toned down for the theatre production ❤

I love the way he sings; ''And though you turn from me to glance behind The Phantom of the opera is there..'' At that moment you can really tell he is classically trained. Haven't heard him sing like that in other Nighwish songs, only in solo covers or collabs with other artists like Delain

Nightwish make awesome covers. Their version of ''Over the hills and Far away'' was so successful many didn't realize its a cover of a song by Gary Moore

That verse they added to the originial song is so epic!

I’ll never forget hearing this in 2003 working in a music store and literally seeing the light of God in Tarja

my 2 favorite things in the world are mixed together: nightwish and the pahntom of the opera this is just too perfect

I love the man's voice. It's just so.... idk. He reminds me of a warrior dressed in silent legion armor wielding taliths sorrow. Not necessarily evil but dark.

+Not My Name In the book the Phantom is actually the best singer anyone had ever heard but was rejected due to his looks, causing him to seek revenge. In fact he taught the lead female how to sing. It could have been worse, you could have been forced to become a singer so good that everyone else sounds gravelly and aggressive in comparison to you.

@Sentinel Scourge gotta love the hostility and elitism on an inherently subjective medium If hou were to listen to the earliest known recording of the song then that would be as close to an original as you xam get and if lloyd weber was rhe first to compose the piece then his version would be the original and frankly in most of the covers i hear that straddle genres i happen to enjoy rock or matal versions than original classical or pop offerings because i in my subjective opinion enjoy the emotional output of rock/metal The metal version of "take me to church" 100% more emotionally appropriate given the story portrayed in the music video And thats just how it is for many metal fans no need to bring your elitist hostility

I liked betrayal for her since it fit her feelings pretty well. Mr Crowley was an excellent choice for her intro scene. That said, this would definitely be a proper replacement for her as well.
