The symphonic parts are written by Tuomas on the keyboard and were up until recently “ translated “ by Pip Williams and played by the London philharmonic and together with the chorals put on backing tracks for the liveshows. There’s a (many part) documentary on “the making of Endless forms most beautiful “ that had a bts of them being in the studio in London recording the orchestral parts for that album. 😊 I love that whole documentary because it really shows what they are like as people and what goes into making this amazing music 🎧

You’re the first person I’ve seen even mention Pip Williams 😃 while Tuomas certainly has brilliant melodic material on his own I like how he uses an orchestrator to make sure everything fits. Orchestrating for full orchestra and choir is a whole other beast so I don’t blame him haha. Plus Pip even adds some countermelodies at times depending on the song, with Tuomas’ approval of course (Scaretale is Pip’s personal fav and the proudest that he has worked on)

I think what Nightwish is doing great is that they rarely feel forced. Just like as you mentioned with the guitar solo, it went with the melody, wasn't overly technical, or long, it had it's place in the flow. Of course the musicianship is top notch, but the way they find the right amount of mixing of symphonic and metal, feels natural.

Tuomas (keyboards, founder, composer) does not usually explain what he was thinking of when he created a song. He wants people to experience what the song means to them. 🤘😊

Yeah, if you listen to enough Nightwish songs you will at one point kinda get what Thuomas wanted to say with which song. For example pretty much the whole Oceanborn album was being a horny 20y old in poetic metaphers.

The most animated I've seen you. You should know that Tuomas on the keyboard writes 95% of their songs, including the symphonic backing tracks. You want breakdown check out Song of Myself from Wacken. You like Epica check out Sancta Terra featuring Floor Jansen. Nightwish is basically a Finnish group and Finland has a higher proportion of Metal groups than anywhere in the World. Nightwish has had numerous No 1's there. You like heavier songs check out The Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean from Buenos Aires and Weak Fantasy from Tampere. You like fun songs check out I Want My Tears Back from Buenos Aires 22019. You will eventually get to The Greatest Show on Earth from Wembley or Tampere featuring Richard Dawkins. Its the story of Evolution in 21 minutes. Enjoy

It's hard to not like Nightwish. Their music is just solid, well written in both music and lyrics, add a genius on the keyboard, a beast on bass who hormonize well with the singer, a killer drummer, a tasty guitar player and of course one hell of a singer... And nowdays talent that is Troy who does everything from flutes, uilleann pipes, guitar, mandolin, some singing what have you... And an overall epicness. It just works do well!

This song is Like a Coffee with Red Bull .... On Steroids 🤘❤‍🔥🤘. The “scream” at the end is called a glissando, going from low to high and back, for classically trained singers this is an exercise to warm up the vocal cords, so Floor will do this probably every day before breakfast . AND,...Floor has 3 distinct styles. Head banging(straight forward, then back), hair whip(almost like cracking a bull whip) and the Windmill(continuous 360 degree revolutions). Why Windmill? Well she is Dutch. NWSU/FloorFan 🤘😎🤘.

It's true what they say, Nightwish starts in a way, it presents you with 1 or 2 minutes of an idea that as the song progresses it becomes bigger and bigger, more challenging, and reaches points that are very, very difficult to reach musically in alive, due to the skill of the vocalists too, but a lot has to do with the band, and I think that is what we all love about Nightwish, how their songs evolve as they progress and end in a memorable way. Listening to them and paying attention to their tastes, I am very sure that ''Gethsemane live Buenos Aires'' could be a song that completes all the boxes that you like!! excellent song, very theatrical, very powermetal, fast, disturbing, and with a lot of piano and guitar presence... excellent reaction guys, and the talk is fun..

Classical music, metal and therefor symphonic metal has a big audiance in Europe. I am a muscician myself (Clarinet and alt saxophone) and I need a trigger in music, it needs to captivate me. As a 13 year old I was into metal, while I played in a symphonic youth orchestra😂 Honestly, pop, rap and r&b never did anything for me. The music and their stage presence is very genuine and every concert is just a wonderful experience. They are never bored, moody (like I experienced with Metallica per example) Their energy gives the crowd energy and visa versa. Music is beautiful, it reaches your heart in every kind of way, raw, happy, melancholic. Greetings from Holland, the land of giants and floor😆

Also, even though Nightwish is probably the metal band that is the most reacted to, its always a pleasure to hear new perspectives.

Another great reaction and conversation. I think you will enjoy "Song of Myself" when you get there - for me its the most perfect blend of (heavy) metal and symphony. If you keep following the list, "Everdream" will have a lighter tone - not any less epic though. I think you should be aware, that even thought many of Nightwishes more "popular" songs are actually less heavy - makes sense as these are more easily approachable to mainstream, a larger part of their production is actually quite heavy and raspy, like and even more than Romanticide. Actually I think romanticide is still quite "simple" composition wise compared to big part of their songs. I'm even a bit hesitant to call them just "songs", many are more like composed musical pieces but heavier (and shorter) than Ghost Love Score.

There's really not much symphonic stuff in this song, but it still has the Nightwish sound. You can't hear the keyboards much in this live version, but they are not in very big part in the album version either. And the album version, that is done with Tarja, is not really that good, but this live with Floor is rocking. The album (Once 2004) has so many great songs, that Romanticide is one of those that I might skip. If you want to hear more hit kind of songs from Nightwish, then you might want to checkout for example "Storytime", "Amaranth" or "Nemo" from this same concert. And if you would like to hear long epic masterpieces, then "Poet and the Pendulum" (Wembley 2015) or "The Greatest Show on Earth" (Tampere 2015) would be great choices. The two latter ones need some research on the topic of the song beforehand to really understand and appreciate it all.

This is something you haven't seen before. ;) Imagine a song that were to embody the entirety of existence, from the beginning of time and the universe, to humanity’s present-day realizations. That would mean encompassing billions of years and the plethora of events that occurred in that lengthy timespan. Nice reaction. Y'all need to do more Nightwish reactions more frequently. Their catalog is enormous, so you'll have tons of time to get through it. They have a plethora of compositions to tackle. Take care.

There is a band that make very nice Metal and adds some symphonic elements and that band is Lovebites. Their song Dystopia Symphony is a Masterpiece, it sents you to a new journey. Their songs like Swan Song, Above the Black Sea, Under the Red Sky etc. leans on to very famous composers like Chopin and Rachmanikov. You really should have a listen to them. Their musicality is on another level and if you want to categorize them they play Power/Speed/Thrash/Heavy Metal.

The male singer and bassist is Marko Hietala! He is an absolute vocal legend in Finland. He has a unique tone but sounds gorgeous both when singing heavier stuff or calm songs. His range is incredible too. He is probably the most beloved metal artist here, he is always invited or organizing every musical event. From helping out Hevisaurus (who make metal for kids) to headlining the Raskasta Joulua event every year! I highly recommend looking up this "Raskasta Joulua 2019 | "Sparrow on Christmas Morning" by Marco Hietala" or use this link: kzread.info/dash/bejne/q3-tyZamYdSvf7Q.html There he sings the Finnish classic christmas song "Sparrow on Christmas Morning" live with a children's choir for the 'Raskasta Joulua' event (which is basically a ton of beloved metal & rock artists reinterpreting Christmas music)! This particular video has subtitles for the song and gives a bit of context for the event. If you want to see him and Floor sing Ave Maria together beautifully and classically check out their live Raskasta Joulua version of 'Ave Maria'! kzread.info/dash/bejne/p6hq18iuYqa2fso.html Honestly, anything from Raskasta Joulua that has Marko Hietala, Floor Jansen or Tarja Turunen written on it basically gold!

Here's some fun music for you - maybe put some Nile on the list. Like Nightwish, their concerts are incredibly fun and casual, despite the music being really intense. Frontman Karl Sanders always has this goofy grin on his face when performing. Songwise, I recommend either Vile Nilotic Rites, They Whom The Gods Detest, or Even The Gods Must Die

Aaah you missed out the introduction from Marko who explains what the song is about. Looking forward to more Nightwish that you are exploring. I've been to see them live twice I dragged my wife along to the first concert last year in Dusseldorf, then last June, for my birthday, she dragged me to their concert in Gelsenkirchen which was slightly smaller with only 7000 there, of all ages and nationalities, that was a beautiful setting with the band on point and Floor who was 6 months pregnant dancing and windmilling around the stage. What an energy, We Were There! Just noticed that the Dreichbrand concert has been removed from KZread, it had some of the best sound yet from a Nightwish concert too.

Yes, there were not much keys to be heard in this performance. I think this one would be an interesting song for a pianist to react to, and to cover with his own touch: NIGHTWISH - HARVEST - LIVE in a VIRTUAL World 2021. This song is less heavy, very much folky. (There's a piano tutorial on "Music Sheet Boss" - channel. "Nightwish - Harvest - Piano Tutorial")

10:40 Nightwish doesn't have official explanations for any of the songs. Nearly all lyrics are written by Tuomas Holopainen and he has explained that lyrics have a specific meaning for him but he doesn't want to say it out as official explanation because he has heard so great ideas for possible meaning from other people that he doesn't want to claim any speficic meaning as the official one. The NW lyrics are definitely art form itself.
