A fun fact here that not everybody might know is that when Nightwish did the Lista TV performance here they had only performed material from Oceanborn one single time live, and that was the concert in Huvikeskus, Kitee on 13 November 1998, where they filmed Sacrament of Wilderness and replaced the live audio with the studio version in order to make the music video. It is easy to see how nervous everybody was, and who wouldn't be after only having played the songs live once, and then having to go on national television :) Tarja on the surface may seem the most relaxed of them, but she is also clearly very nervous, which seems to cause her to briefly forget about her breathing technique at the very end of Sacrament of Wilderness (after having done this just perfectly throughout the whole performance), so that she seems to run out of air and has to breathe in very quickly two times in order to produce the end of the vocal lines - and if you look carefully you can see that she is really angry with herself at the end for forgetting about it for that small time and she seems to be swearing(?) xD The vocal lines are in general very difficult to sing on Oceanborn (the hardest by far of any NW material to date), requiring very much of the breathing technique and other things from the singer, as Tuomas wrote them without regard to 'singing practicality' or what was Tarja's 'common range' - he just wrote them as he wanted them to sound and it was a steep learning curve for Tarja to learn the songs and she was also in a sense pushed hard by the band to finish the recordings, something that Tuomas regrets a bit in the Nightwish biography. When we take all this into consideration, and the fact that the songs had only been performed one time before live, and that they were on national television, I think Tarja and the band absolutely kills it, for lack of a better word - though Tarja is clearly a bit hard on her self at the end of the performance (she was always very critical about her vocal performance - so critical that she cannot stand to listen to the two first NW albums according to an older interview (maybe she feels differently now?)). This is such a fantastic and youthful performance and as many has stated in the comments, Tarja sounds absolutely fantastic and this period is probably my own personal favourite period of her singing style (although I Iove everything she does in NW and solo) - so dark, rich, mysterious and managing to be both epic and tender at the same time. Just incredible. Thanks to Metallwish for putting this up in such incredible quality!

Crownless from Wishmaster has to be the fastest paced Nightwish song and, therefore, one of the most challenging to perform.

@@Rayaelle As far as I know, it's only been performed twice, early on during the Wishmaster World Tour. Epic tune. It would be a standout song for the vast majority of heavy metal bands out there, but for Nightwish it's just another song on an overall underappreciated album.

I would say Tarja's voice is better now but she chooses to use too much chest voice that makes her sound sometimes weird. Before, she only used head voice.

They together created the best and marvelous music i ever heard in my life, pure magic! Nightwish is legendary

Love to have a time machine and go back to see live shows of Nightwish, Within Temptation and the Gathering in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

@jamesmacoisdealbhaigh9904 That may be but overall, I am impressed with Anneke van Giersbergen more than any of these musicians because of so many styles or genres that she has covered with The Gathering, her solo career and in projects like Ayreon and The Devin Townsend Project etc. Anneke just has that edge over very talented vocalist musicians Tarja Turunen, Floor Jansen, Sharon den Adel etc. I can agree with you that Tuomas Holopianen is the best songwriter of these musicians, especially for symphonic metal but I think Anneke can match his talent because she covers many more genres than he did in their careers.

Pure treasure. Having something from this era in this quality is a treat. Thank you for making this one for us. This was the only true Nightwish. Today, they are just a tribute band.

They were a tribute band by 2003 as they became Tarjas backing band. I love this era, they were all brilliant, but she became a mannered travesty before the end of her reign.

This was how I was introduced to Nightwish. I remember watching this tv-show and my friend said "what a crap!" but I was like..."No..wait.." At the time everything even remotely power metal sounding was big no-go for us. But something resonated..and resonated many years to come. I saw many early gigs and I got to know some of them through same friends we had. We used to party quite heavily. I got to visit the birthplace of NW too. The Island. Even though one of them was my friend I was total NW fanboy too. 😆 But that was over 20 years ago. What a memories. I love those first 6 albums and even though they fell of my radar years ago they're still great band. I have lot of respect for them. It was great to see this 4K remastered. Thank you!

Oh my god i didn't recognise any of the band members everyone had short hair even Tarja did. I know the first Bassist was called Sami and Marko joined the band later. I legit thought that this was just Tarja from Nightwish and some musicians for this Show, but it's actually Metal Mozart Tuomas and Young Emppu with his Coconut hair cut lmao so cute.

Finally I can see this performance! For years all that was available was grainy crap so bad I had no idea there was even a bass player on stage! And the female presenter is friggin' hot! Uff... tremendo compositor y cantante se cruzaron en la vida, no me acuerdo en que entrevista Tarja contaba lo difícil que le resultaba cantar algunas canciones y que más de una vez terminaba llorando después de los ensayos, por no poder llegar a las notas que Holopainen componía. 😉👍

@@Metallwish fue precisamente grabando Oceanborn, ella dijo que Stargazer y Passion at the opera fueron dificilisimas... stargarzers particularmente se grabo sin que ella sepa que estaba prendido el mic, y lo hizo en una toma porque no pudo hacerlo de nuevo. En los recitales que siguieron cuando la tocaban (hay uno perdido por youtube del 99) le bajaron la nota asi podia cantarla... Ahora, Tarja las canta como pan comido.

Oceanborn is the best album. This Nightwish was the best. It's true that Once is a terrible album within the Tarja Era too, but in my humble way of thinking, after Angels Fall First, it's almost palpable that Oceanborn marked the identity of the band. Besides, I feel nostalgic when thinking they used to be a Kitee band.
