Marko is an amazing musician and I'm sure he's not 'channeling' Dickinson or anyone else. Marko's musicality always shines through and you only really get that when the singer and/or musician totally loses themselves in the song - and if you're there as a musician, it can really only be you in that moment, there's no space to be trying to mimic or sound like anyone else. The moment that happens, the authenticity gets lost. If he's channeling anyone, he's channeling Marko.

I agree , Marko is his own animal , they are inspired by other musicians as is every musician at some point , but this whole band is very original and the real deal 👍. 🤘

He does have his own band. And the 2019 album is amazing.

With Nightwish, the spotlight is always on the lead singer, so it's good there are performances like this which highlights how amazing the guys are. Even without their signature female lead singer, pound-for-pound one of the most talented bands ever on stage.

Not correct, the spotlight was totally on him with the Islander and also spotlights on him with Romantice, devil and the deep dark ocean, Ghost river, Poet, Greatest show on earth etc. He was vital for these songs and everybody knows

Indeed. People often focus on Floor because she's there in the front and being visible and awesome, but the fact is that Nighwish could have been a world class band in the configuration we see on stage in this one, too. Tuomas just didn't want it that way.

Tuomas, and rest of the band said back in the day that this wasn't a cover but a tribute to one of the greatest singer and band that ever excited in their opinion.

Whether in reactions or not, you should check out Marko as lead singer of Tarot. He also had a solo album out in 2020, Pyre of the Black Heart, and since then has even done some joint shows with Tarja. There will be some Tarot shows coming up in the future too. He's back in music and that's a great thing. 🔥🤘🔥

the quality of Nightwish shows in such covers/interpretations as well, because it proofs that they not just get the point of a song but are also able to refine it in their way without any pointless overdoing or 'bad excursions' (quite the same with Floors covers of songs)

'Look how young he is!' I dare you to check out the young Marko, Tarot: Wings of Darkness, year 1986.

Something ethereal about this performance - understandable given the circumstances of this particular gig - but the last 2 minutes were really something special - everytime I watch this, I always wonder why they're not levitating 😊😅

Performance was the 2005 Helsinki concert (End of an Era DVD) . Last show on the Once album tour, and last NW show for Tarja, she was off stage for a wardrobe change. Song #8 in an 18 song set. Marko absolutely kills it, and Emppu with the awesome guitar work, a tasteful tribute, to Gilmour's original work. He has had a couple of bands where he's the lead singer. Kiss While Your lips are still red is an Awesome song with Marko has lead.

There is just something about Marko's voice. First of all, he lives the song he is singing, you can see it in his gestures and movements. Secondly, that voice is so powerful, and at the same time, wraps you in a blanket of comfort and familiarity, even when he screams. (well, Master Passion Greed may be an exception to that). He is a master of his craft. If you want to explore Marko's talents outside of Nightwish I would suggest that you take a look at the band he fronts, Tarot, and the song "Tides." Live version from "Undead Indeed".

Add 'Bye, bye Beautiful' to the list of exceptions, but both of those songs were for a special occasion. His ability to evoke emotions rivals Floor's.

This was not my first Nightwish track to hear, that was Islander, loved it and Marko's voice, so, bought the album Dark Passion Play, however just could not get on with Annette's voice Forward a few years or so and a metal singer came on Beste Zangers here (I'm in Belgium) and she started singing, then with them saying she was the lead singer with Nightwish and I thought that voice is not what I heard on DPP, so dipped my toe in some more up to date Nightwish and fell in love with the band again. Now been to see them live twice and hope that they come back to the stage soon. Gelsenkirchen was an awesome venue for a Nightwish concert 🤘🤘🤘

Yea Annette in Nightwish ? Eh . A good little singer but not for this bands genre I feel , a heavier pop or milder rock band suited for radio play maybe , but the fit here was a bit off .

Marco did front for his own band, Tarot.

Marko was the lead vocalist for his former band. He is also singing lead for his solo projects. Marko is definitely inspired by Ronnie Dio and Bruce.

This performance showcases Empuu's artistry. Convinced me he is as good or better than David Gilmore. Change my mind.

Great musicians in their own right and very different to Nightwish who I love . If only we could go back in time to witness that Wacken concert , now that would have been a once in a lifetime experience 🤘

One of the things that make this performance even more powerful to me is the fact that this was the last show with their original singer, Tarja. There was a lot of turmoil within the band at that time, and at the end of that show, Tarja was going to be handed her dismissal letter, a fact that was known by all members of the band (except her). Thus, this particular show has a special vibe. It could have been the final show of Nightwish, the night their High Hopes were dashed.

He has his own band for decades, Tarot. With his brother on guitar. I love the song "stones" of Tarot. Marko is so underrated as singer. The stuff he did in Nightwish was so awesome. And together with Floor he sounds sooooo good. I understand he wanted more time with his family, the man is active in the metal scene since the 80's. Thanks sir

In my opinion they are already at the top, look at the cover they did, at the level they did, and I don't even need their FrontWoman, time will turn them even more into legends... Few people are really realizing the Talent they had and What does this band have...it is also understood that it is an unusual genre for most people.

Emmpu and Marko are truly awesome in this song, well they are all great. Marko sings with such intensity in this song. Tbh i prefer this to the original and im a life long Floyd fan.

Did you do Marko & Tarja, Phantom of the Opera from this same concert? Marko is a great Phantom. I wish he would have done one with Floor.

Influences from Bruce Dickinson? You bet. Marko started fronting a heavy metal band back in 1982, when Iron Maiden was in their Golden Years and ended up being huge in Finland.

Marko is great, but I think Emppu steals the limelight with his solos! He is a guitar master!🤘🎸

All Pink Floyd fans only listen to this version now. Makes Pink Floyd's version seem like a cartoon. High Hopes by Nightwish is the only Pink Floyd song I ever listen too. Tried a few different versions of the original by Pink Floyd (Live or a recording) and they put me to sleep.

The most "into it" performance. No member smiled even a little bit, focus on max, they probably wanted to give the song their all (talent and respect to the original). Complete success.

Wanna hear more Marko? I request a double reaction of the song "the voice of my father" (if you haven't done a reaction to this song, by now). First the english version and then the finnish version, please.

He sung super high and clean in Tarot from time to time, so Dio and Bruce Dickinson are likely influences when he was fronting in Tarot

Oh next one,,, huh,, let me see... Walking in the Air. Over the Hills and Far Away and Symphony of Destruction are some of their covers that I really like.

It’s time you react to the IMHO best Marko song: Master Passion Greed. No lady singers, purely Marko !! The most angry and heavy NW song and surely in my top 5. You don’t have to look for a live version. It’s not there and probably never will be (however I still dream that Floor will sing/growl it….). Master Passion Greed special video (2007 Marco in vocals) is a angry message to Tarja's husband Marcelo Cabuilia. This song is the angriest and heaviest of all NW songs. Great reaction! Tuomas was actually inspired to start writing music and such by Metallica when he saw them in concert 1992 in the U.S., but I’m sure Pink Floyd was another of Nightwish’s faviorites. Love this tribute by them 🤟🖤🖤🤟

This is prime Marko. And after this for many years he had to hold back his talents to not overshadow Annette. She's a good singer too but live not on the level NW needs.

As im a massive Pink Floyd fan for 52 yrs and seen them live twice , im not listening to this because 1. they are a foreign band 2. non fans of Floyd dont know the meaning of this song or how much it means to Floyd fans 3. This is the last song on the last studio LP made by Floyd 4 . I dont do covers as a rule . There only three on you tube worth listening to
