Floor´s voice is so beautiful. It´s beyond beautiful, words are not enough. I literally feel it takes hold of my soul. I truly believe it was her destiny to become the lead vocalist for Nightwish. Her ability to evoke emotion is something I have never felt before.

Floor studied opera for about a year, but fortunately for us, Floor is a metalhead and found opera wasn’t really what she wanted to do. Instead, she became the most versatile vocalist of a generation.

Floor has said this is one of the hardest songs for her to sing. For more of Floor and Marko, I recommend Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean live in Buenos Aires

I wish people would stop repeating this without context. It's only difficult because she chooses to belt it rather than user her head voice. It would be a walk in the park if she sang it like Tarja.

@@billattercliffe8655 Concur once more. Floor's done this in other songs as well of course, and to great effect. Take e.g. "Planet Hell". We were at Pinkpop the other day, and there were passages that I couldn't help but wish, "please Floor, spare your instrument a little and use that head voice".

I'll give you all the names of band members. Floor Jansen - singer. Tuomas Holopainen - Keyboard's -metal Mozart Marco Hietala - Bassist Jukka Koskinen - new Bassist. Emppu Vuorinen - Gitarist. Troy Donockley - Multti instrumentalist. Jukka Nevalainen - Drums. Kai Hahto - new Drummer.

Marco, or Marko Hietala was the bassist for Nightwish for a long time, but had to quit because of personal reasons. He will be missed, but the real star of this song is Floor. She has the range and subtility to slowly bring this song to a blazing crescendo! Her an Marco brought this piece home wonderfully, not to mention the rest of the band, everybody was on the top of their game.

“80’s rocker”… Moron… Take a listen to “Kiss While Your Lips Are Still Red”, “The Islander”, and “The Poet & Pendulum”… Marco’s voice is amazing - plus, watch his bass playing…. Effortlessly playing riffs while singing… Can you pull that off??!!

As people have already mentioned she's Dutch, Troy (the guy who plays the uilleann pipes, flute, etc) is British and the rest of the band is Finnish (Floor has lived in Sweden for the last number of years however) I recommend Alpenglow for a change of pace, and as one of the songs that was actually written for Floor rather than the previous singers!

"Marco sounds like the stereotypical 80's rocker." It's because he is. To see him in his 80's hair metal glory check out Tarot "Wings of Darkness" live from 1986, video quality is poor, but the music is good.

You ask "How is it so clean?" One thing that helps this band make live recordings is that all their signals from the instruments (guitar, bass, keyboards, drums) go to a computer program called ProTools which is one of the most popular recording studio Digital Audio Workstations (DAW). That program contains everything needed to make a top-quality audio recordings . It also has outputs to the large PA speaker system AND they use it to send a 'click track' plus mixed audio to each of the musicians in their in-ear monitors (each musician can customize what they hear... maybe focus more on their instrument, maybe more bass.. it is said that there is an extra 'feed' that goes to a small monitor under Tuomas' keyboard so he can hear/feel more of the bass). So, basically, their Front Of House (FOH) mixer IS a recording setup. This allows them to capture not only the "final" sound that is sent to the PA, but they can also capture each instrument individually without stage and crowd noise and adjust distortion-or-reverb levels in post-production. For a recording like this one, they also capture the PA sound and audience noise and mix it in at appropriate levels. The Protools sydtem also has outputs which trigger the Lights, giant Graphics Display Monitor(s), and Pyrotechnics system, so the music and the stage show and completely synchronized. If you know anything about programming in music, then you recognize the term MIDI... this is like MIDI on steroids. There is a YT video that explains how all this is done at a reasonable/understandable level : 6dhSkfbHXJc "GEAR GODS RIGGED - Nightwish" (I just re-watched it a bit... they do not explain how the system is used for recording, but those of us familiar with studio software can see how Nightwish's system would be used to record (in addition to running the stage show). There's bit's I'm leaving out like the pedal boards of Emppu and Marko, the drum microphone system, the amplifier simulators, all the symphonic and choral backing tracks, etc. Anyway, there is an immense amounts of work that is put into making this all work. I'm sure that when they do more (add traditional stage and PA recordings, audience sounds, etc).

Very interesting.. at 0:49 "Floor doesn't sound Finnish". Indeed she does not. In songs like this one, she sounds heavenly and powerful. Together with Marko, you have the ultimate vocal blend in metal. Hands down the best there is. If you'd like to hear what Floor really sounds like, I have a suggestion for you. React to a mini-documentary about Floor, like other reactors did. It only takes 15 minutes to really become an initiate in all things Floor, so how's that? The video is about the 2015 Reunion TV show of her Rock Academy class. It's English subbed, done for Dutch TV. It was partly done on site at the legendary Nightwish Tampere 2015 concert. Floor's parents were in the crowd. They were interviewed right after the sound check. There's also a "day after" interview where Floor tells about the terrible burn-out she suffered in 2011, only one year before she got that famous phone call from Tuomas. And then there's Tuomas' famous words: "She's right at home, doing this". So here goes, Floor "back to school" with her former classmates from the Rock Academy. Floor is multi-national ;-) She is from the Netherlands (Dutch), lives in Sweden (married the drummer of Sabaton), sings with THE band of Finland in English :p

I commented on one of your previous videos but ill repeat myself: I honestly think she's the finest female vocalist on the planet! And because you like Marko's vocals I'd suggest you do their cover of Pink Floyd's High Hopes and their live Phantom of the Opera with the original lead singer Tarja. And by the way, if you don't know Pink Floyd that's a band you need to discover.

The audience loves to sing along. To really see the crowd sing at this concert check out Amaranth. Floor gets the 82,000 crowd to sing of the song lines with/for her. I think Toumas (on keyboards) was impressed. Sounded great.

Marco (Marko Hietala) formed his own band TAROT back in 1982 with his brother. He also relased his first solo album "Mustan Sydämen Rovio" or "Pyre Of The Black Heart" about two yrs ago. It's released both in English and in Finnish

I really recommend Raubtier, a Swedish heavy metal band from Haparandra of all places, and I also really recommend the singer, Pär Hulkoffs, other band Hulkoff. A lot of todays pop stars use autotune in the studio and just can't sing live like Floor who is highly trained. No lip synching with Floor or any metal/prog bands I've ever seen live. Pop stars of today, well lots of lip synching going on apparently.
