Warhead certainly is an interesting looking bot. Probably why it got on TV while other good bots didn't.

nothing to do with hypnodisc, that was a derivative of other bot designs that had been out years before, but were more powerful. Little known fact about hypnodisc - far from being the 'most powerful spinner', it was actually the WEAKEST spinner out there, all the others were too powerful for the arena to hold, hypnodisc was the only one weak enough to be contained. At the time, there were battlebots lightweights that would hit harder than hypnodisc, despite being a quarter their weight.

Nightmare has one of the most simple designs ever and yet its been able to kick ass for so long

Actually, if you are referring to when Nightmare's disc stoped, it wasn't power down (well, it might've been a little later, but that's not why it stopped spinning). After Warhead ripped off one of the teeth, it left the metal, where the tooth was, very sharp and jagged. Therefore, as the disc came back around, it cut through the remaining belt powering the disc. With that belt cut and the other lost after the bots collided, the disc was left powerless and, ultimately, useless.

Actually warhead didn’t rip nightmares tooth off If you look at the damage done to the dome You will see nightmare had the first contact and left a gash in warheads dome In that same hit Nightmare ripped its own tooth off (it did it again in the rumble and sent it through the ceiling) Nightmare had a problem with the new motor (big ass ETEK) which had a ton of torque and a ton of speed, the torque ripped the tooth because the disc wanted to keep going while the tooth was being embedded into the dome

If you look at the design of warhead, it was basically Warhead with the main weapon rotated 90 degrees located lower to the ground and better armored. It's unsurprising that his excellent desgin won. Not to say that nightmare isn't an excellent design as well, but it's a little too vulnerable.

I would have loved to see Vlad the Impaler (The older one especially.) vs some of their bots back then. Vlad was incredible, ramming people into the sidewalls and just being a sturdy bot with a smart driver who could handle the incredible speed.

I think the biggest difference between Battlebots and Robot Wars was that Battlebots was more a test of skill and craftsmanship. It was a real competition. Robot Wars was more along the lines of "Okay now let's just watch stuff get broken and lit on fire."

It took 16 YEARS to finally break Warhead's disk

The pounding sound at 4:16 was one of the guys on the Warhead team pounding his fists on the glass in excitement after it scored the knockout.

6mm lexan is 'bullet proof'. thats what the Robot Wars UK arena had for the first 3 seasons. It's pretty thin really. By contrast, the lower walls of this arena are two 12mm sheets of lexan together. Heavyweight spinners at battlebots have gone through it (Mechavore in the S4 rumble, if memory of my co-worker is correct - he was about 10cm from the arena when that happened, one of BattleBots' safety officers)

Actually, Robot Wars started in America in the early 90s, then moved to Britain, while Battlebots started in 1999.

From what I can tell Warhead's head is a horizontal spinning blade.

Warhead is EPIC!!! Such a compact and rigid design. The Nightmare is not sturdy enough and it's WAY too vulnerable.

I have the same opiinion, and yes backlash and nightmare were both built and driven by Jim Smentowski.

Outside of RW Typhoon is one hell of a beast, Hypnodisc loves to stop cold whenever it touches anything harder than tinfoil sacrificial lamb armor. Never seen 259 really throw robots or having the power to srimech with its own wheel.

@Zmaczimum Nightmare's wheels are what provides its mobility. Without them Nightmare cannot direct its spinning blade and enemies can easily avoid it. Additionally Nightmare would be counted out because it can't move from it's SPOT. In short, if Nightmare were to increase its speed or protects its wheels, it wouldn't be so easily defeated. (have no idea where you got the notion of getting a quick getaway from).

P.S. Would you like to explain to me how a bunch of people who entered with bots didn't get rejected but just got confused and left the studio since RW didn't reject people for stuff such as having too much armor or not enough style?

More like Pro vs Pro from another series. Warhead's team had another robot, Razor, which was in the battlebots Pay-Per-View event (and won the heavyweight rumble) as well as being 2-time Robot Wars world champion and the 4th UK champion. Warhead was built specifically for Battlebots season 5, as Razor was ineffective here in the US. As for Warhead's wings, they're a srimech, or self-righting mechanism. If your robot can't drive upside-down, it's best to have a way to flip it back on its wheels.

Nightmare's flaw: it's driver was too cocky. That being said, both driver and Nightmare are too be commended for being simple with it's weapon design and being effective despite it's simplicity.

@Zesmus I dont think so. I mean the other has a bigger body which adds to weight but the other one has a very big blade which adds alot to weight. I think they are the same weight classes but not of the same weight.

Where the hell did you get that from? I got it from a guy I used to work with who was heavily into robotic competitions and used to be on a team.

I'm confused, It's obvious what most of the battlebots actually do but I don't understand. Warhead doesn't look like it does anything but bounce around and spin. I'm probably just extremely dense, but please explain! What are it's weapons?

They are very unlucky but build amazing looking an performing robots, i had the pleasure of meeting them and got to drive razor. Amazing machine and it's absolutly massive upclose.

Nightmare's weakness has always been its wheels - they never protect them.

@Ammonite78 They do actually ive seen the contract. When they started making toys of uk robot wars, by signing the contract you are licensing your robots likeness over to merton productions. my father and I built a middleweight entry so we have read the contract. I know what it contains.

I didn't think it was possible, but those geniuses may have made a robot better than Razer!

@MrSqueakyBootz It's Nightmare's blessing and its curse: designed to get one or two knockout blows per-match. If it can't get those then it's got nothing.

It's less of a blade and more of a hammer... Or something. I dunno how the physics work, but that spinning head clearly causes some crazy collision damage.

i do see the american flags but notice there are uk too so does battlebots go to the uk or based in it or wot i want to see it

@leeofbacup ok honestly i cant call it as warhead is off balance but DEFIANTLY has the more potent weaponry so it would come down to can razer get behind it. i am not a razer fan boy but i hate it when people get there facts wrong in anything so i try to correct them and kinda get into a fight or 6

i think its a good idea for house robots it give the robotiers more chances to destroy each other and also to finish of after a fight

inb4 someone decides to build a combat-ready version of King Robota. Though I'd have to say they'd still have a hard time doing even that.

Robot Wars was not a straight competition. Matches were stacked by producers, robots would be rejected for too thick of armor, not stylish enough, etc. Battlebots was a competition, you meet the rules you're in, simple.

If I see them again, I will.

I wathched these guys with Razer in 2003. OMFG they put it on steroids!

@Icelandicishnese Stupidly they are not allowed to use Razer as it can only be used in BBC competitions, stupid contract is still in effect even though the BBC dropped the show years ago.

i seem to recall it beating stealth,bigger brother(well not beat but still lots of damage)atomic,raizerblade,splinter who are not made of tinfoil

Nightmare was basically a glass cannon.

That disc at the front moves incredibly fast, I can't give you a statistic but take alook at around 6:00 at the dent in Nightmare's blade

Nightmares weapon spins far faster

If I had designed Nightmare, I would've at least put some armor on the sides along with some spikes or something to help protect it.

@VITIN1201 Nightmare was pretty BA. With that being said, he lost in one of the finals if I'm correct to Son of Wyachi, which I don't know if SoW played Warhead or not, but it'd be really sweet if they did.

war head had a very unique shape

by autonomous i mean some design need great pilot skill & will not work as excpected with weak driver; not conviced about weaponery allowed or not (else consumable as fire or bullets) from what i seen (some dozen of design) i think the armored flat with a lifter (that aloow to return itself or ennemy in less than a second ) and the ability to roll when on the bad side is the great but there is a lot of shape and lifter concept to explore all of the saw/blade,bitter,hammer,claw seen dead weight

Seems like Warhead is made from titanium, well, at least the spinning head. Nightmare's spinning blade of doom only made a dent!

Dont forget the driver aspect here. but razer could probably be sent flying several times and survive. now if that claw could get a good grip on warhead it would be over.

First off, autonomous combat robots aren't really a thing yet - while there are a few small classes for them, they're not very popular. As far as the best design, assuming by "non-restricted" you mean all weapons allowed by the RFL rules, it would have to be an invertible drum spinner, similar to Touro Maximus from Combots.

heheh the legacy of HypnoDisk lives on in Nightmare hahah dang in all the years of both RobotWars and now Battlebots there has not been a war machine that has had a weapon THIS powerful

if any of u lot watched robot wars then you would know that the team who made warhead made razor too, both of them are unbeatable
