Considering that the holders of titans can see and apparently "feel" the memories of past holders, it's not quite far fetched to say that Eren didn't just feel the outrage and grief of the irrationality of Faye's and all the restorationist's deaths, he felt the rage and grief from losing both a sister, a wife and dear comrades. Being a titan holder seems to be a whole gut punch in the psyche

Definitely, such an interesting concept too. Literally feeling the same as past holders as far as even being transported in a moment in time and experiencing it yourself.

He took this ideal of "I hope one day, we can come to understand each other," so often seen in anime. It shows, if that really happens, how much a mental burden that is for each and every person. Not only it is potentially traumatic, it's intergenerational--decades of pain and suffering, and eren is the representation of that ideal and takes the mental and emotional brunt of it. While at his core, he does not change, outwardly he has to. But eventually, he can no longer keep up the front and is broken by the weight he's forced himself to carry.

I mean when you think about it in regards to Faye, a new depth is added to Eren's motivations and psychology. Symbolically you could take Faye's killing as Marley's relationship with Eldia at this point in history. A pack of wild dogs tearing a defenceless child to bits for crimes she is not guilty of. The dogs being representative of Marley, made even more obvious by the fact that Marley literally released pure titans to tear apart Eldians as the dogs did with Faye. Of course Faye represents Eldia itself, this is given more prominence by the fact that Faye's death mimics Ymir's daughters eating her to preserve Eldia (Thank you Koenig Barbarossa in the comments for pointing this out). Faye had to be eaten to continue the restorationists, without that Grisha wouldn't have ''awakened'' completely to his oppression you could say. Ymir and Faye were both eaten to continue Eldia's legacy. Eren would have seen this image play over and over again in his head, he begins to see his race as Grisha saw Faye. Eren is different because to him, his people deserve freedom. Meaning, they don't have to get eaten or oppressed to continue Eldia (remember back to Historia!). Eren being this deep into a victim complex which isn't completely unwarranted left him with genocide as his only option, remember in his mind everyone else in the world are wild dogs trying to tear children (Eldians) apart. This doesn't justify what he does but it makes it very understandable. Perhaps Eren could only understand Ymir because he understood Faye (And himself) also.

But doesn't Eren also know that most people outside the walls are just like his mother? Like Historia pointed out? He stopped seeing everyone outside as his enemy. But he wanted freedom for his friends, and between them and the world, he chose his friends. That's how I interpreted it anyway.

I’ve always felt Faye played a big part in Eren’s motivations. We see her image constantly flashed back in the series and eren’s mind. At the award ceremony for the heroes of shinganshina when the Scots were being given medals by Histora in s3 finale , Eren tells Armin about freedom and then remembers Faye. He also sees Faye again in his memory shards in. S4 (ch120). No doubt what happened to his aunt fuelled Eren, considering how much it tormented his father too who’s memories he took on.

It also happens today One has literally to be in a Marley to not notice it! Ask an Afghani, Iraqi, Palestinian, or any nation at the receiving end of western attention you won't hear things that doesn't hit a Marley/eldia dilemma string. Even though there was no attack on titans at the time but I've seen comments that looked at September 11 as bad but also necessary similar (even identical if u remove the names ) to comments about the attack on Marley. Regardless of sides or opinion, the need to dehumanize and then demonize people is what human does to kill.

This is what I call one of life's "Vicious Cycles", where both or all involved parties continue to feed the cycle via their responses and choices. I do agree that what happened to Faye was horrible, and wrong, however the only one who should suffer for that is the man responsible, as if we (From the perspective of the people of the world of AOT) decide that all of Marley must suffer for the mistakes and crimes of one man, than we are no better and are helping to perpetuate the very cycle of suffering in which we feel is unjust and cruel The only way to break free of one of these Vicious Cycles is for BOTH/ALL involved parties to realize that by continuing their current paths they are only destroying themselves, and hence working together to break the bonds of the cycle that so many others have suffered and died due to not realizing themselves Both Marley and Eren are understandable and in my eyes justified in what they've done, Eren because he'll have had nightmares of shit like this for years now, chipping away at what was left of his mental state, til he only saw one method left to secure the freedom for his friends and people of Paradis. And Marley because the world already experienced what was effectively a Titan Genocide in the form of The Great Titan War and the rise of King Fritz via Ymir's sudden powers, hence to prevent themselves from being left at the mercy of Eldians and Titans, and hence Fritz once more, the world has evolved to exploit, bully, manipulate and kill Eldians for even the slightest transgressions, and never giving them the same statuses or things as others of the world such as Marleyans, so that they can never regain the old strength and terror of the Eldian Empire However, both are wrong in their actions, despite both trying to protect those that they care about (To an extent in Marley's case with the World, more their own people but still) from the suffering caused by the past. All that was needed would have been for Eren to use his Titan powers to help with something in the Mainland of Marley, a construction project, temporary policing duty, anything to show that these "Devils" aren't who the world makes them out to be, and that even Devils can do some good Or... If Ymir, who had evidently been giving Eren visions from the start, had decided to show Eren and the Marleyan Warriors the TRUE story, the REAL origin of the Titan Powers, then the people of the world would have had to accept the revelation that these people, are just normal humans like them, both gifted and cursed with the ability to morph into giants with enourmous levels of strength and near no weaknesses, but only if forced to realistically If we are going by technicality, the tragedies of the Attack On Titan universe, are all Ymir's fault, as she decided to use Eren for revenge, rather than to stop the suffering of her great descendants, her own flesh and blood, as THAT, would have been far more of a middle finger to Fritz than any amount of destruction and death caused by the Rumbling and Ymir's powers. All of this just goes to show the horrors brought about by Revenge, all of the deaths, the pain and suffering, and the thousands of years of brutality towards Marleyans, Eldians, the fucking world, all because Fritz was a greedy bastard who just HAD to control people and the world, and Ymir just couldn't accept the fact that she should use her abilities for peace rather than manipulate Eren for petty vengeance

if kruger was there, then eren would've seen it via memories. As far as they showed, eren only heard about it through grisha's memories and felt what he felt. It easily could've been shown during those four years though. It would explain him acting more like Kruger than Yeager. Colder, calculating, patient; deciding to be the infiltrater and blend in. While it's possible for eren's wild rage to progress like this, I'd like to think he got so many of Kruger's memories that he had basically become kruger, and not just taking on his last name as an alias.

Eren split paradis just to meet up with zeke, don't forget that. He allowed his fellow paradis eldians to fight amongst themselves and end up killing each other. _He allowed this. He enabled it._ his friends mattered more than paradis, his goals mattered more than them. Eren went insane and gave in to the monster inside him. You'd have to messed up to cut your own leg off yourself, regardless of the healing factor involved. (Media likes to make the insane incapable of coherent thought and being wild and uncontrollable for the sake of drama. but look at joker and eren). Even king fritz didn't do a full rumbling, and he's an evil bastard. Even he has some minimum standard and limit. Meaning no _sane_ person would do a full rumbling. Paradis only agreed to a small scale one. Eren was over there justifying the killing for their sake when, in reality, it was because he wanted to. Them living was only because he allowed it.

To those saying genocide is justifiable. Who ordered war on Paradis? who let loose those dogs on Fay? who is the sole reason your favorite characters are suffering so much? The Marleyan government and Military are the ones rooting for the downfall of Eldians .The people of Marley, The Eldian communities included, were manipulated and used by that government and military and as such they are the ones deserving of death. The people, the mothers, fathers, children, those innocent people walking along the marketplace didn't do anything themselves to harm Paradis except be deceived by the Government they put so much faith in.

Still their fault for being sheep and buying into their government's lies. They are responsible for their actions no matter how much they were manipulated. However, I'm not saying they all deserved death or that its not a tragedy, but when it comes down to kill or be killed, the only option is to kill. Is it also justifiable to let your entire race go extinct due to another people's irrational fear of you? Also, keep in mind Marley was the best place for eldians, it was far worse everywhere else in the world.

Because that still occurs today in portions of the real world and yet it's still unacceptable. This is why morality supersedes government and society. Morality remains constant despite government or societal changes. The Marleans even had contact with Eldians from time to time and still didn't care despite interacting with them at points and seeing their humanity. Ignorance and following the government is not and never is an excuse. Its wasn't an excuse in the Nuremberg trials and itsn't an excuse in any other context.

@@rico653caines3 Except only Edians were shipped to paradise. There we no Marlean's or other nationalities shipped to paradise. Only Eldians. Even still that isn't an excuse Soviet Russia and many other countries killed political opposition and people that didn't comply with the system too. The fact that people won't stand up is a complaince. The other problem not only did people comply but they supported it. Comparing AOT to Nazi Germany or Soviet Russia isn't even close to fair because most people just followed the government in fear of their own lives. In AOT people don't hate eldians because of fearing for your lives if they don't but because they legitimently hate the Eldians. Look at how Reiners family hated Eldians so much and they were Eldian themselves. Imagine the people not Eldian including The Woman who killed herself and her own kid after finding out her husband was Eldian. People of AOT passionately hate Eldians and its even worse it other parts of the world. Its still unfortunate for the people who don't truly hate Eldians, especially the children to be killed by the rumbling but when It comes down to it, if Eren did nothing all of his people would die. It isn't an easy situation, its basic survival instinct. kill or be killed.
