Nighthawk with Vance & Hines Pipe

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

A fellow KZread user saw the video of my Nighthawk with a Vance & Hines pipe at idle and asked if he could hear it at speed. Well, here it is. There's a bit of wind noise, but not nearly as bad as I thought it would be.

    Here's a word to the wise...the bike got substantially louder over the past couple of years. I assumed the muffler was shot so I started shopping online for a new system. In doing so, I stumbled across instructions for re-packing the muffler with fiberglass. I didn't know it was a "glass pack". $15 and 10-minutes later it's as good as new.

    @gambietti - I don't know if it runs stronger. I bought it with the pipe on it so I don't have a frame of reference. It sure sounds nice though! I'm told you need to re-jet the carbs, too. Mine are re-jetted but I still have a bit of an off-idle stumble.

    Mine sputters just off idle, too. And pops through the pipes slowing down. It runs strong, though. Another poster here recommended different carbs. I put new tires on mine when I first got it - makes a huge difference!

    when i got this nighthawk the back tire was wore in the middle and the front felt hard even though the front has good tread, it feel's hard or not least bit pliable to press on it. rubber's on bar mount's under tree are loose too. .

    yea im gona do that too, i couldnt believe how hard this thing rode with these older avons on it. back one is bad too big,, 150 size, feels too high in back. probably just get two HRC's or,Cheng Chin's, something feels strange though, i get on it,and my legs feel scrunched or up too high. and then when im on it awhile,I feel tension in my shoulder's and inside of legs feels like Ive been on a saddle. kinda wide. I put sea foam in tank and rode it around for a while.

    Mine has the Stage 1 kit in it, but I bought it that way (with both the carb kit and V&H) so I don't know if the other work was done to it. I'll have to see if I can adjust the pilots.

    i guess if you want it quiet sure. most people refer to the fiberglass burning up as the break in period, for cars at least.

    Hi infernus, I just got it home from the guy who said he put a stage 1 jet kit in it, but i get it home i start it,let it warm up and it's rough at lower rev's, not running nowhere as smooth. as the one on this video. a dirty filter wouldnt do that i dont think.

    wonder what it would sound like with four black megaphones AKA,,,,vintage GP bike's each pipe with it's cylinder with its own carb Ive seen older CB's with this sounds really cool, and open cups on carbs..

    My bike (the one in the video) runs the same way. It's gotten worse over the years but I haven't looked into it. Flat spot off idle, but smooths out as you wind it out. I was under the impression that it was lean because if I choke it a little it sort of clears up. With riding season coming to an end here in the Northeast I won't get to it until the Spring.

    mannn I wish mine ran like that, mine sputters on cruising, but is ok on power thru gear's, pops thru pipes when slowing down. really aggrivating. sat for awhile in garage before i got it. I think tires are hard, rides hard too.

    I get on this nighthawk, and its a little tall in the saddle, was thinking about a corbin gunfighter so i set lower and not slide so much. this thing will still get up and go though, even sputtering in the lower rev's,

    I as wondering if it would do anything if i put some sea foam in there with a full tank. and then drive it 75 miles to see if it would clear the idle jet's out and then run decent.? It might ned a whole car of sea foam to do it. but If it need's the carbs done? that that's the best way.

    Hi Guy I ride this nighthawk of mine, Ive slid it into a ditch once or twice with mild mud, like there was no control from a hard dirt road had to start it and guide it slowly to the road again, do tires get hard sitting in a yr or less???

  • @kirkconway
    @kirkconway10 жыл бұрын

    yea guy, i was gonna do that but im not sure where the airscrew's are and how much to bring them out? I guess screw them in full then back them out 1/4 turn like you were saying. please get back to me on this as im putting a Gunfighter and lady seat on and a new silencer for the V&H megaphone. saw some bar risers for this bike and they look nice, would bring the bar's up so your not leaning over.

    timing is a little off on mine acts like its on 3 cyl's, and light gets brighter with i rev it up, sitting too long,

    I just laid mine over in a mud ditch after getting overcenter on it with mud on tires,, didnt hurt it but reallly ticked me off big time, It's strange but Ive looked at brit bike's and italian and german one's, Id like to have an older Bonnie, or Norton 750 they are nice, something Narrower than a nighthawk, they are wide as a horse saddle,

    thats what im doing too, I think mine are hard from age. whatever is a good overall tire like dunlop, or meztler, or even bridgestone.

  • @kirkconway
    @kirkconway10 жыл бұрын

    yea,,, see thats what i was thinking too, clogged idle jets and needing total cleaming on all of them.

    I got a jet kit put in month's ago. but the guy didnt clean the carbs and charged me 245,00 I got it home and it ran the same as before. the bike was running a while back and the baffle insert flew out, so thats why i was gonna get a new one from Dennis Kirk. so thats where it is right now.

  • @kirkconway
    @kirkconway10 жыл бұрын

    yea, see that's what i was thinking too. a bike sitting for a year or more is not good. I found a guy a few miles from me that's an MMI certified mechanic. im taking it to him let him service it then It'll be right. im pitting OEM dunlop's on both end's then ill get an insert from dennis Kirk for the V&H pipes and put it in and then it wont be so loud.

    I thougt this guy rejetted it, but it dont sound or act like it, its got a huccup on starting,and a little bit of trying to clear itself out upto about 5 grand, let off on throttle and it goes back to sputtering. the bike feel's ponderous like im sitting on top of it, and not part of it.

    mine seem's like its a little loud too. I ride it,and then just cruising it runs rough,and feel's like 2 or three cylinder's, not smooth at all. jyrating.

    this little turkey that told me he wanted the bike never paid me and then lied about it to his uncle,\ that he paid the bike in full. so i got it back and as soon as i can its going into a good shop,fully tuned new fluids and if need be brake pads and whatever else it need's. this time ,thing's are gonna be right.

    well not so much sputtering, but acts like its on 3 cyl at med RPM's flat spot on takeoff from idle. i think carbs need the full cleaning.Ive got the jet kit in the Xterra as he gave it to me. but he put jets in it but didnt clean them. so theres probably gunk in there that's need's to come out, I started it when i got it home from his place, same ol thing happening. waste of $260,00

  • @kirkconway
    @kirkconway10 жыл бұрын

    no,,, nothing is changed or modified except for the V&H pipe. flay spot on takeoff and sounding like running on 3 cylinder's and then seems to clear out at 4,500,and above. but not really.

    Its Kirk, But anyway,,, I warm it up i take off,it smell's hot. It's full of castrol 10-30. Im thinking it's running lean, thinking about taking it to a shop and have the carb;s cleaned and put on again. should run like new then. your sound sreallly good, mines not near that good, I paid $2,150, for it, it's got 25,000 on it. plastic and tank are ok except tank has two moderate dents in it, crease in left front, and 2 inch shallow one on left side.

    @boost4fun It's those damn CV carb's, I read alot about it and it seem's people are fixing it with keihin CR specials. Expensive carb's but supposedly they are worth it, I'm researching everything I can for my 82 CB750F build. I found them on DYNOMAN.COM and just about everything else that I might need/want, you should look into it if you still have her.

    ok, now you see what Ive had to deal with, I have the dynojet box with the old part's in the plastic box. BUTTTT, why would he do the jet's and not see that it was running ragged? I think this guy was just a general change parts guy and not a REAL MECHANIC and then takes me for about 256 ,00 now im reallly weary as to who messs;s with it that thier not a nerd that dont know aything.. like I was saying before i found a guy that's MMI certified on harleys kawasaki honda suzuki. get things right
