Nightdive Remasters On A CRT TV (a very casual look)

Ойын-сауық

This was just for fun, and in no way scientific! I was curious how a few Nightdive Remasters would hold up on an old CRT TV, and what I found was interesting. All games were run at 640x480 resolution interlaced on a PC with the following specs:
GPU: 1GB ATI Radeon 5450 running CRT Emudriver
CPU: Intel i7 7700K at 4.7GHz
RAM: 16GB DDR4 3200 MT/s
STORAGE: 1GB NVMe Gen 3 SSD
OS: Windows 11
Enjoy!

Thanks! Yeah, CRTs are awesome. Thankfully there are still some good deals out there, but finding one in really good condition can be hard. Good luck with the search!

When I finally rewound and realised what you were actually doing with what hardware and software combination, I was tempted to spring from my chair, locate my flatscreen CRT, random Radeon op shop find and get gaming, hopefully. Then I remembered they're 3 Km distant, I dont have a car, it's 10:52 pm, and it's pretty cold. So a project for the morning I guess. Hopefully the TV is OK for the bus trip.

😂Nice! Yeah, the thought that sparked the video was: "Hmm, I built this PC to kind of be a 'one-stop shop' for retro gaming, I wonder if it can play the definitive versions of some of those games..." I'll try to do better at providing context in the future. This is my first time doing this kind of video, as well as my first time using this set up, so I still have a lot of refinement to do. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment! Best of luck with the project!

@@itsdonallen I was stoked to find a simple direct presentation of a retrolutionary concept that solves a huge problem I have right now. A steam game, Redout 2 (an ag racer), has a new option when I start it to accept an EULA that allows the dev or whoever writes these things, to know my location while I'm playing. I aked for a refund because that sounds stupid and I cant even think of why they would even ask me to do that, but steam says it violates no Australian law. Now that I've decided to drop Steam from my life, I only really need to account for my AG racing and Space sim needs. GOG takes care of the rest and standlone VR has made the PC more trouble than its worth. Mostly I'll miss Ballistic NG and House of the Dying Sun (unless I go sailing later today), So now all I need is to find my old Radeon card (or just see if the Linux box has the right model), get that screen here, do a trade for a PS1 down the road at the nerd pawn shop, and play my physical copy of Wipeout 3, they way it was meant to be enjoyed. I'm have Freespace 2 and Homeworld series on GOG (DRM free), and that kind of makes up for HOTDS. Plus I haven't even looked at the current state of indy space games (without a Steam infection), so thats gonna be fun in itself. Sorry to write such a long comment, I'm just super into anything CRT, retro, old PCs, alternative OS etc. Actually, it's kind of been therapy for my rage-inducing experience with steam these last days, thanks for reading. The solutions are always apparent if you open your eyes.

like why though this is weird. these remasters aren't made to play on a graphics card from 2010.... the hell? you should re-do this video on hardware that makes sense. Grab an RBG VGA to NTSC encoder.
