"Nightcrawler" star Jake Gyllenhaal

Ойын-сауық

Jake Gyllenhaal joins Jian to discuss his intense and frightening role in "Nightcrawler", a noir thriller about an ambulance-chasing crime photographer. The Oscar-nominated actor plays Lou Bloom, a wild-eyed drifter and petty thief who becomes a freelance cameraman specializing in gruesome footage. Gyllenhaal reflects on privacy and voyeurism; shares how he got into the head of his sociopathic character; and why he's drawn to challenging and often darker roles.

no but the thing is, the character being a sociopath/psychopath is NOT the point. This is why Jake never describes Lou as such in any other interviews, it wasn't his first approach, neither was it Denis Villeneuve's idea of the character. As he says, this movie is a success story. Lou Bloom is a metaphor, he is the embodiement of humans' craving for accomplishment in a society that not only pushes them to get around the rules to achieve success, but also pushes them to put their humanity, their morals aside in order to do so. Lou Bloom is the production of this society : he's a bone-chilling, grotesquely dehumanized character who learned to adapt and grow in the harsh and paradoxically wild environment that is the city, the symbol of human's suposedly superiority to nature. People have to give Jake some credit, the guy knows what he's doing. Actually, it's quite rare to see actors who put so much thought and details into the process of creating a character, just watch his interviews about Detective Loki in Prisoners.

great movie, the character is written so deeply. i found myself with an uncomfortable laugh out loud while saying OMG he is crazy, while shaking my head back and forth, it's a reaction i never had with a movie before, so often. psychopath came to mind, through out, but jake doesn't use the word. surprised. brilliant movie. how did they make this so cheap and fast, incredible. they captured the character deeply and intelligently. very dark, cool movie. loved his coyote references. people forget we're part of the animal kingdom. loved it.

Light is not light without darkness and the idea that Jake Gyllenhaal 'is not afraid' of that darkness is what makes him brilliant. Life is too short, we see everywhere how we need to 'embrace the light' and I am of the opinion that it is the same coin, opposite sides; dark and light. BRILLIANT!!! It is sooo great to watch movie that is made by someone who ventures into that darkness.

lol! True! I agree with the part about acting since coming out of the womb. lol! Why? William Shakespeare's quote "All the World's a Stage." In my personal opinion very few people are truly 100% authentic when they are among society. Either at work, home or abroad in the world most people keep some aspects of thier genuine personality under cover. Mostly because people in general want to feel validated, accepted, needed, respected etc... So, If we feel that our one of a kind/genuine personality is not one that will fulfill our inherent needs among society then, much like a chameleon in its environment adjust its skin color for protection from predators, people adjust the face/personality they show other people to feel safe/protect thier ego or sense of self worth maybe. We play a role which we feel will garner the things we have longed for such as that old elusive goal of perpetual happiness. :) Whether that means material, physical, emotional or all of the above. Then again, my interpretation of his words could be a projection of my own view on life. Who knows. lol! Or maybe just maybe I am over thinking it and reading too much into Mr Shakespeare's writing. And no people I was NOT high when I wrote this! :) lol!! William Shakespeare's quote. "All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players: they have their exits and their entrances; and one man in his time plays many parts, his acts being seven ages."

The whole point of an interview is to learn more about the person being interviewed...its supposed to be "me me me".

Hate hearing Jians voice and he thinks he is so all that and ruining the movie with spoiler comments. Fucking so glad he is finished on air and will be charged and will be of to Jail for Sexual Assault on a grand scale with probably 30 or more women sexually assualted. I would like to see this Creep registered indefinitely as a Sex Offender. Jian is Creeper than even the character in the movie, I am assuming as I have not seen the movie yet. what a jerk off you are Jain!

C'mon Gian is a great interviewer one of the best ever in my opinion. Whatever these allegations are we can only speculate to what the real truth is so I will not rush to judgement. I like his voice it's very nice and soothing.

You do realize that many people have now come forward including his girl friend right? They have video and text messages proving what a fraud he is.
