Well, all japanese ships were either sunk in battle, scuttled by the US afterwards, torn apart for scrap or worse yet, nagato was used as a nuclear test target and sunk by the second attempt

Mihály Dénes The ships themselves were not to blame. It is the people who dictate the war that are to be blamed. Furthermore, the ships were not designed to "kill directly" like guns do, their goal is to disable enemy ships and not necessarily killing the crew. In fact, what they did in war was to shoot enemy ships until they are unable to fire, which then the enemy will give the order to abandon ship and evacuate, in the most ideal case, the ship is destroyed with minimal casualties and the battle is won. In the worst case, like a magazine detonation, then of course all crew on board will die.
