What is J.K. Simmons' BEST performance? Are you all binge-watching this weekend?!

Oh Austin! Give us a harder question! JK Simmons best performance for me is in Whiplash for sure. One of my favorite acting performances in the past 20 years.

This show was AMAZING!! 8 episodes wasn't enough for me😑
man this show needs to get recognition. this show is beautiful, it's such a pelasant story with such amazing character building, i havent seen such a pleasant watch in so long. the relationship between JK and Sissy is just so heart warming, the world building. Jude is a character im just rooting for the whole time, it's nice to have something where the main characters are just enjoyable positive people. sure its a little slow, but it feels like its not wasting my time. every second builds to the characters and it feels like it's jsut here to tell a full story, honestly it reminds me of the feeling of ET. Sissy and JK make me hope that's what my old age looks like.
Personally, I loved how the show would force you away from the core scifi into some of the other characters and subplots. I nearly binged the entire season in one night but saved the final episode for the next day. There is something to be said about delayed gratification...if the scifi element was constantly in your face, the show's mystery wouldn't have been as profound...IMO. This is one of my favorite shows in a while.

@@Bonenut-1 Now that I know there won't be a season 2, it wasn't worth watching. There's too much left unanswered and the ending of season 1 wasn't satisfactory.
Over 850 trips to the planet and nobody from the town ever strolled by? Also, I wonder what happened to the rats? I loved the show. A pleasant surprise.
Loved it! I especially liked the characters and the acting. Sissy Spacek and JK Simmons are worth the watch in themselves. The guy who plays Jude is wonderful. Great cast, great story. I’m in for season 2 100%
Touched me because my wife is not well and it always hurts me to think I'll lose her. The similarities between this movie and me and my wife are astounding.
Oh my gosh I loved it. Great story, characters, Simmons, Spacek, and Chai. No expense was spared on talent. Everything was perfect! ♥️🤗 There better be a season 2. 😡
I binge watched all the episodes and I admit it's kinda slow burning but overall I enjoyed it.. I didn't get bored..
I absolutely loved this show… binged watched. I cried, laughed, and was on the edge of my seat…the performances by all were spectacular.

yeah they give the show such a hopeful feeling. the feeling of this show i feel can only be compared to that of ET
JK simmons should be getting an award for nearly everything he does, the fact we can believe that he would be the jerk he is in whiplash, then come down to be this sweet man... the guy can sell anyone on anything he does.
I see a few comments re: "slow burn" aspect of the show, but in all honesty, I am glad they took that time to unpack the story so meticulously. The attention to detail towards mental health is commendable. You cannot summarise mental health complexities. This series provides us a window in the lives of people that live it and/or impacted by it. Can't wait for season 2.

Couldn't agree more, it's feels like a real insight into people's lives, the character development was in depth and excellent.
Very strange plot. It felt like the entire first season did not really go anywhere and then left you in limbo.

Thanks for another well thought out comprehensive review! JK Simmons is awesome & elevates everything he’s in. Of course he was great in Whiplash but also loved him in the sci-fi series Counterpart (still bummed it got cancelled) & as VA for Tenzin in Legend of Korra.
Loved Night Sky! It was a slow burn that kept me clicking for the next episode over and over! Good cliffhangers! Bring on Season Two!
As soon as it gets good I find out I was watching the last episode. I’m definitely interested in season 2
I found myself saying "ok ok get on with it..." too much with this show. Suuuuper slow sometimes, when there could be much more interesting things happening. The "heart to heart" moments were a little too abundant for me. And yeah that cliffhanger annoyed me at the end, but with all that said I'm still excited to see how the story to plays out if they do have a season 2.

Completely agree. It was so slow and hardly anything actually happened. It advertised itself as a SciFi based around this planet but as you said, focused WAY too much on the heart to heart/sentimental elements, and the mysterious organization but hardly actually explore the very thing the organization is "protecting" aka the planet, purpose of the teleportation devices, etc. Super disappointing. I just wanted a SciFi.

"spanish people" LOL, I assume then that you are an "English Person"...
Just binged in 3 days & 100% want a S2. The cliffhanger was not severe at all to me compared to amazing new series Yellow Jackets, Raised By Wolves, Severance, From, & Outer Range all of which create WAY more questions without answering too many S1 answers. Not knowing what happened to Byron was a ? Created in the penultimate Epi, so yes it's not the worse it wasn't answered even though I wanted the answer & not much else was new. It was obvious their would be a 2nd group who knows about all the same info, rebels the original groups ways viewing as too controlling/ hard-core, therefore, branch off creating a resistance rebel group (people who flipped the car at the end).
There is a huge market for smart sci-fi aimed at the retiring demographic. These are people who grew up with this stuff well before Star Wars came along to ape it dumbed down a lot for '70s kids.
I binge watched season 1 and I’m looking forward to season 2. The ending definitely left me wanting to know more.
loved it, i liked the slower pace in the first half and the multiple plot lines
So far so good! It’s like watching a puzzle very intriguing. I love the couple Mr. and Mrs. York. I believe Jude was sent there because he’s going after his father who probably came through the portal that was found in the York’s backyard. I will definitely watch season two.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2 for me.
It was OK. The actors did a good job with what they had, but the writers wrote the characters in ways that people wouldn't normally act. A few examples in the final episodes would include Byron's wife not calling the cops after his disappearance and/or the cops not asking Frank and Irene about it - especially since a 'violent, psycho drifter' was recently staying with them. Cornelius, Jude and Stella in Frank's house, but he doesn't ask any of them for tips on recovering Byron. Jude and Denise leaving with no firm return window and Frank and Irene have no successor to their 'secret' if they passed before either returns, so logically it would be discovered and the military would ultimately be controlling it rather than having some trusted heir to the secret. Maybe I am nitpicking it, but there were SO MANY other similar instances it just doesn't make for any sort of realistic expectation of how a person would act in such a situation. Don't really care if there is a 2nd season or not because of the writers.
Show was cancelled but there is a petition online to have it renewed. I would post a link but YT keeps deleting it. Quick search on petition Night Sky and should come up.
Yeah it is absolutely worth watching. There is surprising reveals throughout and the way everything unfolds is so amazingly paced
Great show with an amazing cast! Loved it!!

But Amazon in their” wisdom “ did not continue to resolution.
The pace was frustrating at times. I still don't know what this is about, but I enjoy the character interaction so I will probably watch season 2 if it gets renewed. 🤷
I actually like this new series as it kept me wondering what's going to happen next. I binged watched it all in one day and have no regrets as it was certainly worth it. I think they did a superb job of casting each character. The storytelling is great as each segment serves a purpose; at least how I saw it. Hope they knock it out of the park for Season 2.
I absolutely loved it!
Literally one of the most unexpected shows I’ve ever seen . Very realistic look into peoples boring lives . Love Byron’s character development I’m imagining he’s not dead and lives either with aliens or I guess the “ guardians” who settled on the planet
Slow burn but very mysterious and intriguing. Looking forward to season 2.
Couldn't get past the 4th episode. They just keep drawing out the mystery and secrets. I get it. It's designed to make you want to keep watching the next episode to find out what's going on but then that next episode only reveals the smallest amount of info.
Just picking up it now and sad to see it won't get a S2. Halfway through the series and loving every minute of the relationship between Franklin and Irene, even the love he shows to their granddaughter. I'm interested in the sci-fi, it's why I started it, but they are couple goals for sure.
I am SOOOOO excited to see a season 2 ! I hope they brig the program back.
A lot of it Is just slow filler. I'm still watching. It needs to pick up the pace, what's with dragging out these episodes.
Anyone else notice a GLARING continuity error at the opening of Episode 8? Franklin goes to the tree with the swing. As he is walking TO the tree with a saw, there is NO SWING. He then cuts off the swing, and is seen walking away from the tree carrying the swing. And then he stops, turns around, and is seen walking to the tree with an axe, WITH THE SWING IN THE TREE IN THE BACKGROUND. Do they do these mistakes on purpose just to see if we notice?!?
I really enjoy this series I’m still in the midst of watching it but I’m really liking it and I hope they’ll be a season two
I finished the series today and enjoyed it very much. I was disappointed to hear that there will not be a season 2. Do you think another streaming service could pick it up?

I really enjoyed season 1 and am looking forward to season 2. I want to find out what's happening, it's a mysterious story that left you hanging at the end of season one but in a good way. Curious minds will enjoy Night Sky.
J.K. Simmons, is the perfect actor for this series due to the fact that he knows a thing or two, because he’ve seen a thing or two.
Amazon please change your mind about season 2! Love a thought provoking well done sci fi. This show has the it factor. This show is bound to catch on in popularity

Good call. The entire series is a slow burn and not in a good way. Hardly anything actually happens. It focuses way too much on sentimentality and not on SciFi at all. Skip to the last 5 mins of the finale for something to happen... And then the season ends and it's over. Wouldn't recommend.

The writers want at least two seasons so they drag it out. M husband loves Sci fi but I'm not even gonna tell him about this one. He'd give up by episode two!
I just discovered this series today and watched the first episode, then I found out it had been cancelled after the first season and that it ended on a major cliffhanger. ☹I loved the first episode and will watch the rest of it, despite knowing it ends in a frustrating cliffhanger that will never be resolved.

What about The Lincoln Lawyer?
One of the best syfi dramas I've seen in a long while JK Simmons always a joy to watch Sissy spacek is brilliant hope season 2 happens
After returning to America, Fred Ward had small roles in the fairly obscure > Sissy Spacek comedy-drama “Ginger in the Morning” (1974), Fred Ward, died on May 8 / 2022 at the age of 79,
I’m been trying to see if the show is based on a book. Can’t find any book sources. Anyone knows?
I need the end explained to me. How did that happen?
Think you would like Operation Mimcemeat on Netflix
This slow simmering show has slowly sucked me in and I can't stop. If you are more into "slam-bang-blast", this show isn't for you because it appeals to neural audience like myself. If you've ever looked at night sky and wondered "what if", this show is absolutely for you because it delivers. Yes, it's a slow-moving show mostly, but if has a super interesting plot and homey feel to the story of two main characters. Watch the first and second episode and lament that you've totally lost control of yourself and cannot stop binging.
I would like a season2 though!!
So, when does season 2 come out?
I enjoyed Night Sky a hell of a lot more than Outer Range. I hope it does get a second season. I liked all the characters and it was good that there seems to be opposing forces at work for some kinda control. Similar to Outer Range but that show lacked giving us enough of the weird. The best thing about that was the vanishing mountain, but we needed more weird stuff to push it forward. Night SKy did that while telling some very good character stories.
I’m VERY INTERESTED in a new season!
Great show! Amazon prime is making a wrong decision not renewing it.
Brilliant series👍
It's a slow burn 🐌 and sometimes gives u unimportant info, and even tho its slow you have to pay attention cause each episode leaves u wit more ??? so that u want to learn more 🤔 🧐 that being said even tho I would like second season I think it runs too slow. so it's gonna keep alot of ppls attention that and the fact that the main characters are an old married couple altho I found them cute and I really like J .K Simmons as an actor I just don't think it's gonna be a big enough win for Amazon to make another season 😒
I guess I enjoyed this series. I say this basically because I watched all the episodes. I didn't really have to pay much attention and it played easily in the background while I could do chores or whatever. It moves at a glacial pace so if you miss 5 or 10 mins, you can easily guess what happened, or it may not matter at all. Maybe this was aimed at 60/70/80 year olds who like sci-fi? This is likely a demographic that is highly overlooked in sci-fi.
If i wanted to see this i would have went to Miami Beach , it seriously lacks anything happening
I’m so sad they discontinued the show 😢 I’m sure there are other great sci-fi shows but this one was really good. I just signed the petition to bring this show back.
Although this series was never designed to be fast paced, it should/could have been shortened to about 4 episodes. It’s so stretched out that it’s obviously an attempt by the producers to maximize revenue.

It was a slow burn but I think it was so good for that. I really enjoyed it. The payoff was worth it. Definitely worth a 2nd season but I believe it will be very different than the 1st season. Hopefully not worse for that.
They *have* to find a way to brimg this back.

I hate streaming tv. First they ended Counterpart before it's time and now this. Isn't it weird how these two show have Simmons and a mysterious portal to another world? Was this based on a book. It seems the show could have more depth and coherence.
I cannot believe they canceled this show... I just finished watching season 1 and Loved Sissy Spacek and JK Simmons. after the first few episodes I was even starting to like Byrons character.

Yes exactly. It's advertised as a scifi but they don't explore those elements at all, so enraging. Hardly anything actually happens in the show, and even less is answered.
Season 2 would have been 10 episodes of them making their way to that town. Just slowly walking there foot by foot with a lot of old people talk about back pain and being sick and other really slow and boring shit. Probably realize he forgot her medicine halfway there and they have to turn around to go back and get it in an exciting 2 episode arc. Watching old people deal with sci fi shit is not fun and just produces anxiety waiting for them to have a heart attack or fall and break something. Don't waste the basic concept of a secret passage to another world by weighing it down with frail old fucks and frail old fuck dialogue.
This show is less funky than Outer Range.
