    man this show needs to get recognition. this show is beautiful, it's such a pelasant story with such amazing character building, i havent seen such a pleasant watch in so long. the relationship between JK and Sissy is just so heart warming, the world building. Jude is a character im just rooting for the whole time, it's nice to have something where the main characters are just enjoyable positive people. sure its a little slow, but it feels like its not wasting my time. every second builds to the characters and it feels like it's jsut here to tell a full story, honestly it reminds me of the feeling of ET. Sissy and JK make me hope that's what my old age looks like.

    Personally, I loved how the show would force you away from the core scifi into some of the other characters and subplots. I nearly binged the entire season in one night but saved the final episode for the next day. There is something to be said about delayed gratification...if the scifi element was constantly in your face, the show's mystery wouldn't have been as profound...IMO. This is one of my favorite shows in a while.

    I see a few comments re: "slow burn" aspect of the show, but in all honesty, I am glad they took that time to unpack the story so meticulously. The attention to detail towards mental health is commendable. You cannot summarise mental health complexities. This series provides us a window in the lives of people that live it and/or impacted by it. Can't wait for season 2.

    I found myself saying "ok ok get on with it..." too much with this show. Suuuuper slow sometimes, when there could be much more interesting things happening. The "heart to heart" moments were a little too abundant for me. And yeah that cliffhanger annoyed me at the end, but with all that said I'm still excited to see how the story to plays out if they do have a season 2.

    Completely agree. It was so slow and hardly anything actually happened. It advertised itself as a SciFi based around this planet but as you said, focused WAY too much on the heart to heart/sentimental elements, and the mysterious organization but hardly actually explore the very thing the organization is "protecting" aka the planet, purpose of the teleportation devices, etc. Super disappointing. I just wanted a SciFi.

    Just binged in 3 days & 100% want a S2. The cliffhanger was not severe at all to me compared to amazing new series Yellow Jackets, Raised By Wolves, Severance, From, & Outer Range all of which create WAY more questions without answering too many S1 answers. Not knowing what happened to Byron was a ? Created in the penultimate Epi, so yes it's not the worse it wasn't answered even though I wanted the answer & not much else was new. It was obvious their would be a 2nd group who knows about all the same info, rebels the original groups ways viewing as too controlling/ hard-core, therefore, branch off creating a resistance rebel group (people who flipped the car at the end).

  • @groundhog5923
    @groundhog5923 Жыл бұрын

    It was OK. The actors did a good job with what they had, but the writers wrote the characters in ways that people wouldn't normally act. A few examples in the final episodes would include Byron's wife not calling the cops after his disappearance and/or the cops not asking Frank and Irene about it - especially since a 'violent, psycho drifter' was recently staying with them. Cornelius, Jude and Stella in Frank's house, but he doesn't ask any of them for tips on recovering Byron. Jude and Denise leaving with no firm return window and Frank and Irene have no successor to their 'secret' if they passed before either returns, so logically it would be discovered and the military would ultimately be controlling it rather than having some trusted heir to the secret. Maybe I am nitpicking it, but there were SO MANY other similar instances it just doesn't make for any sort of realistic expectation of how a person would act in such a situation. Don't really care if there is a 2nd season or not because of the writers.

    Anyone else notice a GLARING continuity error at the opening of Episode 8? Franklin goes to the tree with the swing. As he is walking TO the tree with a saw, there is NO SWING. He then cuts off the swing, and is seen walking away from the tree carrying the swing. And then he stops, turns around, and is seen walking to the tree with an axe, WITH THE SWING IN THE TREE IN THE BACKGROUND. Do they do these mistakes on purpose just to see if we notice?!?

I liked all the characters and it was good that there seems to be opposing forces at work for some kinda control. Similar to Outer Range but that show lacked giving us enough of the weird. The best thing about that was the vanishing mountain, but we needed more weird stuff to push it forward. Night SKy did that while telling some very good character stories.

    I guess I enjoyed this series. I say this basically because I watched all the episodes. I didn't really have to pay much attention and it played easily in the background while I could do chores or whatever. It moves at a glacial pace so if you miss 5 or 10 mins, you can easily guess what happened, or it may not matter at all. Maybe this was aimed at 60/70/80 year olds who like sci-fi? This is likely a demographic that is highly overlooked in sci-fi.

    It was a slow burn but I think it was so good for that. I really enjoyed it. The payoff was worth it. Definitely worth a 2nd season but I believe it will be very different than the 1st season. Hopefully not worse for that.

    I hate streaming tv. First they ended Counterpart before it's time and now this. Isn't it weird how these two show have Simmons and a mysterious portal to another world? Was this based on a book. It seems the show could have more depth and coherence.

    It's bad, way too slow and boring. Do they need to show old people forgetting to get gas and pick up their wife?

    I hate cliffhangers! Episode 7 was the worst. Overall I loved the series. The Spanish family almost destroyed the show. I disliked the Spanish mother.

    Really hope they don't produce a second season... this will be an entirely different show focusing way more on the scifi elements and less on the personal drama and mystery

    Yes exactly. It's advertised as a scifi but they don't explore those elements at all, so enraging. Hardly anything actually happens in the show, and even less is answered.

    Season 2 would have been 10 episodes of them making their way to that town. Just slowly walking there foot by foot with a lot of old people talk about back pain and being sick and other really slow and boring shit. Probably realize he forgot her medicine halfway there and they have to turn around to go back and get it in an exciting 2 episode arc. Watching old people deal with sci fi shit is not fun and just produces anxiety waiting for them to have a heart attack or fall and break something. Don't waste the basic concept of a secret passage to another world by weighing it down with frail old fucks and frail old fuck dialogue.
