I know the feeling. Years ago a raccoon ate my daughters 4H chicken, (the one night I didn't close the coop) . Since then I've trapped 18 raccoons, 32 possums and 39 skunks. So don't stop trapping at just the one raccoon. Good job Matt.

I feel your pain. Years ago I had a skunk kill all 24 of my half-grown 4H chickens, they weren't even laying eggs yet. And the worst part about? The skunk simply killed each chicken by biting them on the head, then left. 3 of the chickens survived for a couple more days but were vegetables (brain-dead) and died of thirst because they couldn't drink. I still remember seeing the skunk coming out of the chicken shed and seeing the holes in the poor chickens heads. I could even see blood flowing and on one hen, her brain even though she was still alive. The thing that mad me the most angry about it is that the skunk simply killed and left. If it had killed every and eaten every one, oh well, that's part of life, it needs food. But to simply slaughter them? Needless to say, I've ruthlessly killed every skunk I've seen since.

2 things, 1) The encoding type from the thermal scope probably wasn't compatible with the video software that you are using. If you can change video format to h.264 or something like that it might help. Also 2) the proper greeting to a caught racoon is "Hello Bandit." I'm glad you caught it, shame I can't recommend anything for it other than taxidermy.

It could be the SD card write speed. Looks like really loss-y compression so either the device cannot encode fast enough, or it is compressing to meet the bitrate limits of the sd card.

FLIR stands for forward looking infrared. It is able to detect infrared light which is emitted from hot objects

Us a red light emitting light mounted on gun or tripod.... freezes them in their tracks.... just aim between the glowing red dots. Works awesome.

in our chicken coop we have digged down a 2 meter netting around the coop and fencing as a carpet under the dirt/earth. so when something wants to get in and starts digging it is stopped by the fence. you should try that. we have not lost a single chicken for several years.

I have a lot of respect for you. Your videos are funny, informative, and entertaining. Filming while driving takes some of the respect away. It sets a bad example and you are better than that. Using a phone while driving impairs just as much as if driving drunk

Hey Doc, I have the same issues with my wife's birds. She raises parrots and this brings all kinds of critters in. I use the same trap as you and it works well. You can relocate the raccoons but at least go over 5 miles. It's amazing how they can find there way back. Skunks I catch haven't got it so nice but that's the way the cookie crumbles. My point is a raccoon will kill all the birds and just eat little bits around here. So your lucky at only loosing a few. Love the daily life in your videos. Barry at THE BEAR RANCH

Hey Matt take a look at those LED lights I use to hunt with and might help to put some of them on your chicken coop They do not scare the raccoons off at all but they are easy to see when they get under that night light along with hogs and everything else that makes them easy targets The light also works as an indicator something is there and even with only 80 lumens I can see anything under it from 100 yards away with a regular rifle scope, or binoculars

Glad you got him or her because it wouldn't have stopped until all your chickens were dead. And please don't take it somewhere and release it. The only thing you can do once they start eating chickens is kill them or else it will be somebody else's problem. Also, there is probably more so please don't take down your trail cam.

I hunt all the time over in the uk and i have a night vision unit with a added rangefinder to one side and its a company called nitesite... you should give them a look amazing bit of kit and you dont have too adjust your day scope it just goes on top and effects nothing

Been watching you vids since I woke up now u drop this one and wont ever get tired of watching them cause they are all the same but all different

The thermal scope says 'FLIR' bottom right. It's the same thermal scope you can use in escape from tarkov. It's so cool to see the amount of details the developers put into it.
