Brent Spiner was asked about this role and he said that the Wheeler's were about to become regulars at the courthouse by running the news stand but then he got the call for Star Trek and had to choose between the 2. While it's no mistake the choice he made was the right one(Night Court only lasted a couple more seasons IIRC while ST:TNG lasted 7 seasons and 4 feature films) , what more comedy cold where we cheated out of.

Spiner made the right decision to go with TNG - but he would have done very well I think in choosing the Wheeler character also, which could have turned into a spin-off series after Night Court ended. Alternate Spiner timeline.

If the Wheelers had gotten spun off into their own show, they could've been billed as The Beverly Hillbillies of the 80's. With this reboot of the show, maybe they could come back at some point.

I got to meet him at a Comic Con once--super nice, funny guy. During a Q&A, a fan asked if he got sick of talking about Data and Star Trek, and he said, "It's hard to be angry when you're constantly being showered with love." Just don't call him Data--that's his line. He has a real name.

I love how they use Yugoslavia as synonym for a country where everything goes wrong and people are idiots, while the same country produced half of Europe export goods and biggest brands in the world - google it up. However once USA and other forces decided it was enough, they fabricated a war that divided the country. If you want to show idiots, pick one of the country that is left after the fall of Yugoslavia, we are all idiots for let you make us fight each other as pigs.

I had forgotten what comedy gold this show was. I just laughed myself to literal tears , lol. I wonder how much Brent's turn as Bob influenced him being chosen to play Data. There's no doubt the man can keep a straight face in the face of anything! Comes in handy playing an emotionless android...

Born in ‘87 I was too young for this show but during covid it was on “antenna TV” every day and I got into it. The characters are hilarious and the actors have great chemistry. I love the “live” opening sequence (like SNL but realistic) I wish I could see The City back then, back when average people lived in Manhattan, when there was still a mafia, when you couldn’t go into Central Park at night, when the pizzerias still used coal ovens unlike the $1 slice tourist traps now, when there was no “Billionaire’s Row” 😣

Funny they mentioned “worm farming”. My grandpa had a worm out in Oregon, near Mount Hood. There was some good fishing near the Columbia River, and a nearby lake (Lost Lake), so a worm farm was a perfect venture. He used wooden planters filled with dirt and fed them corn meal and my mom also fed them egg shells and coffee grounds (hyper worms!). He was fairly successful, too.
