It is a Moral cancer and rot. This generation of Nigerians grew up learning that it is not wise to maintain one's integrity- because they have watched men of integrity slowly killed off and destroyed or otherwise corrupted by the same system. Secondly, if an elected leader assumes office today and does the right thing by his conscience for the people, his successor is going to reap the gains, loot the treasury and put the blame for his own failure on the previous administration. Sadly, this is what our elders modelled for us. It is the most powerful that gets away with crimes of impunity So why bother?

Prof, we as Nigerians have no guard rails any longer, we are an "anything goes" society. I will not victim blame, one cannot blame those that haven't eaten for days and steal food. The real issue is those who ought to know better. The wealthy, the political class, the professionals that turn a blind eye to impunity. Those people run around like untrained children, unchecked, no consequences for actions. When you have no guard rails, it means you can do whatever you like, like a child or animal. Their actions impact the rest of Nigeria, causing poverty, injustice, underdevelopment, ignorance, even avoidable death. The rest of Nigeria follows suit, and fall into that deadly trap "if you can't beat them join them". So there's nothing in the water prof, only lack of checks, balances and guard rails..failed instituions equals failed state, that is where we are now.

Parents will ensure that kids finish secondary school at age 15, the child not even a genius would be forced to write WEAC in passing centre's at that age just to prove her child is better than the neighbor's child. Parents will buy generator to poison the next door neighbor with CO gas without being considerate. Poor thinking landlord will illegally barricade drainage from free flow to cause flooding of his neighbors houses during rainy days. Landlords will go behind to stop the development of the community when govt proposes good thing. They argue who represent communities just for selfish gain. Abroad, they jealous and show pride with their mortgages, type of cars they drive and nature of job they have. They don't grow and carry themselves as other communities do. Go abroad, they are the ones looking for jobs, submitting resume up and down, while other communities employ them. Indians, Philipinos and so many other communities control some sectors. Our own is individual glory, he wants to be the only person in that field to prove a point in his community.. You hear the first and only Nigerian in this and that while other communities boast of multiple in same field. No trust built. Individuals in other communities come together, establish big businesses abroad, like Real Estate, Agriculture, Food industries and so on but our own na individual glory.... No, instilling moral values in Nigeria does not really require force, but rather an honest and sincere commitment from the government and top leaders. The example must start from the top. A president can not engage in certificate forgery and identity fraud, while at the same time expecting average citizens to be honest and ethical in their affairs. It doesn’t work that way.

From the way democracy is being practiced in virtually all African countries, it is very safe to conclude that we have never been practicing the USA's or Europe's type of democracy. It is also safe to conclude that the military, apart from their failure to be able to govern a country, has played a major role in ensuring that they allow themselves to be used by civilian governments in Africa to not only oppress and suppress their citizens but also ensure that development and growth are thwarted as a result. Military rulership is dictatorial by nature, and we know they cannot govern the affairs of a nation economically, politically, or otherwise because they do not have the wherewithal to do so. But we know they can govern their affairs perfectly with their code of conduct, discipline, and chain of command structure. We can also say that when a typical African is given absolute power, for psychological reasons, he becomes corrupted and his mentality changes to that of a god. He becomes a tyrant, an oppressor, and a suppressor of the people he was given power to govern. So, how do we overcome this evil that has plagued the African continent for so long? Please join the advocacy and push for a #Civitary system of government. A new democratic ideology best suited for the speedy development and growth of African countries. When absolute power and command are limited in a civilian government, good governance, the rule of law, and the voice of the people become loud and clear. With specific emphasis on Nigeria, below is the definition and 5 of the 14 preliminary frameworks on which the scope of this new democratic ideology can be expanded. #CIVITARISM or #CIVITARY is a system of government or a type of democracy whereby a country's Armed Forces are completely independent of the control and command of the civilian government and have the explicit function of monitoring and supervising the activities of the government to ensure they work according to the provisions of the constitution, deliver good governance, and provide genuine dividends of democracy to its citizens. This democratic system is characterized by four (4) arms of government: the Legislature, Executive, Judiciary, and Armed Forces. (1) In this CIVITARIST/CIVITARIC system of democracy, all other security institutions and agencies (Police, DSS, NSCDC, EFCC, NDLEA, etc.) shall be integrated as divisions or departments under the control and command of the military leadership, headed by the country's Chief of Defense Staff (CDS). This is to ensure synchronized collaboration between all units in the nation's security architecture for the enforcement of the rule of law, protection of lives and properties as well as the defense of the internal and sovereign integrity of the country. The Armed Forces shall be independent but continue to maintain their constitutional obligation of providing security to the civilian government. They shall also maintain a neutral and mediatory function in the resolution of policy disagreements between the civilian government and the citizens for the healthy furtherance of good and inclusive governance. (2) In this CIVITARIST/CIVITARIC system of democracy, parallel to the civilian government, the Armed Forces shall function like government of their own in the running of their affairs. With support from the private sector, they shall establish and have their own Schools, Universities, Training Centers, Banks, Hospitals, Judges/Justices, Lawyers, Doctors, Nurses, Engineers, Scientists, Inventors, Research Centres, Science and Technology Institutions, Military Gadgets and Equipment Manufacturing, Sport Teams, etc. across the country. The Armed Forces shall open the doors for the recruitment of non-combatant private sector professionals, specialists, and experts in the establishment of the new military reset and focus. (3) In this CIVITARIST/CIVITARIC system of democracy, through an integrated computerized record-keeping system, there shall be FREE EDUCATION for the children of all personnel of all security institutions and divisions or departments of the Armed Forces, from nursery to university level. This shall serve as part of a broader morale-boosting mechanism to enable them to breathe and dedicate their focus and commitment to protecting lives and properties, as well as the internal and territorial sovereignty of the country, without excess family or financial burden. (4) In this CIVITARIST/CIVITARIC system of democracy, the presidency, through the drawing of straws or any other means, shall be rotated among the six (6) geopolitical zones every eight (8) years (two terms). A presidential candidate shall choose his vice presidential candidate from the geopolitical zone in line for the next presidency in case his vice presidential candidate decides to run for the office of president. This shall be the mandatory pattern until each geopolitical zone has produced a president and vice president, and this shall continue until every state in the federation, including the FCT, has produced a president and vice president. It will take a cycle of forty-eight (48) years for the presidency and vice presidency to go round the six (6) geopolitical zones and a cycle of two hundred and ninety-six (296) years for the presidency and vice presidency to go round all thirty-six (36) states of the federation and the FCT. (5) In this CIVITARIST/CIVITARIC system of democracy, the geopolitical zones that will produce a president and vice president shall only have aspirants from those zones, and the rest of the country shall vote for the president and vice president of their choice. This rotation of the presidency shall be a true representation of our oneness, equity, fairness, and equal rights, both as a people and as a nation.

The main problem we have is the kind of characters we have as politicians. As long as we have non professionals, non business owners and people with no known past with accountability and service. People like Wike who would kill their fellow neighbors for political ambition and he is elevated to the next level with no consequences we would continue to produce more Yahya Bello.

If NCNC had won the 1964 national parliamentary election and Nnamdi Azikiwe had become prime minister, there would have been no coup in 1966 and no civil war in 1967. The British government left Nigeria with a lopsided political structure that favoured the Northern region over the Southern Region which the Northern region used to their advantage to win the Parliamentary elections in 1959, and 1964.

Most foolish comment online. Did North won the election in 1959? Also did British gave prime minister to North or Azikiwe did? Some of you are just daft and think backward. So Igbo plotted coup and killed other tribes because Igbo party lost election. That is your justification for Igbo killing other tribes. Thank God other tribes were not barbaric like Igbo otherwise the entire Igbo race would have been wiped out due to stupidity and greed of a few in 1966.

@southunited.6238 That was exactly what British found out during the colonial days and therefore set up naija as Regional Parliamentary Democracy so that each people grow in their own values while getting to know their neighbours gradually over time. But greed for power overtook Aguyi Ironsi and he destroyed that democracy and introduced a unitary system that plunged us into the mess we are today.

@@southunited.6238 But that Regional System Parliamentary Democracy the British gave us allows for referendum, hence the MidWest creation. The Ogoja people in Crossriver and the Ijaws in Rivers were also agitating to have their own region and break away from Eastern region. The Middle Belt were also doing the same. That Regional democracy was a perfect system that can correct tribal domination. Akintola vs Awolowo issue is local and all within SW hence Balewa government never really bother about it. It is not unexpected for same tribe to be fighting themselves. We have had wars in naija between Ife and Modakeke; Aguleri and Umuleri; Igbide and Emede, etc. These are same tribe fighting themselves and that does not mean they don't want to be together. Naija problem started from Ironsi coup, Infact, the system of government British set up for naija remains the ONLY option that a heterogenous country like naija could develop, Greed for power is the reason for military coup and that is the recipe for self destruction. If you look at Niger Republic, it is same issue they had since 1960. There are 200 tribes, and only one tribe rules. If democratic election allows another tribe to get power, the bigger tribe will plot coup and grab the power again due to greed. Africa is all messed up because of the greed of certain tribes who feel they are bigger and therefore can oppress others.
