Nigeria grapples with catastrophic flooding | DW News
Nigeria experiences annual flooding, especially in coastal areas, but this year's floods are the worst in more than a decade. 1.4 million people had to flee their homes for camps set up on higher ground. But help is slow in arriving. Many roads and bridges are washed out.

As a Nigerian it is so sad to see the devastation that is solely due to corruption of our judicial system. They have the resources and funds to build a dam and fix/prevent these issues, but they would rather put the national budget and all foreign aid we've received in their pockets. I pray our next president will actually put effort into improving the quality of life for our people because this backwardness is tiring.

@@Biobele Please read the comment correctly and don't misquote me because nowhere did I state that is the CAUSE. Devastation to civilians is a consequence of flooding. And no, the flood isn't caused by "particularly heavy rainfall". Lagos state sits right by the Atlantic ocean and gets flooded every rainy season due to people building houses on sand-filled water that hasn't been allowed to settle & inadequate drainage systems. So tell me why Lagos is dry right now? If you've been keeping up with the news, you would have also seen the clip questioning why Foreign aid is taking so long to reach Nigeria. It's not taking long to reach the country. The foreign aid has already been received and shared amongst members of the government (at whatever level). Long story short, I stand by what I said.

Nigerian Meteorological Agency has been issuing flash flooding warning at various times in the year but the government and stakeholders never take it seriously, just as usual. Even as of this month of October, our DG/CEO, Professor Mansur Bako Matazu had to issue yet another flash flooding warning to states like Anambra and some central state. And it did happened
