Niger: Islamist Insurgents Ambush Military Post, Several "Terrorists" Neutralised | Firstpost Africa
Niger's military says it has killed several dozen "terrorists" and seven of its soldiers were killed after insurgents targeted a military post in Boni, Tillaberi. The region, which lies in the unstable "three borders" region between Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso, has been a hotbed of insurgents linked to Al-Qaeda and the Islamic State. Despite massive deployment of forces, insurgents have carried out attacks for years in the region. In March, 23 Niger soldiers were killed in an ambush on a military convoy in the Tillaberi region. Niger is one of several West African countries battling an Islamist insurgency, that had spread outward from Mali over the last 12 years. Watch this video for details.
