Funny story, I had a limited amount of time to play Nier Automata the first time, so I set it to Easy, enabled a bunch of auto-chips, sent 2B to the Colosseum, and went to bed. 2B proceeded to fight in my name, all night long, without any oversight or real meaning to what she was doing once she hit the level cap. Glory to Mankind!

I remember thinking it was weird we were able to just cheese your way to a high level like that. At first I was confused and wondered why the devs would allow for it. But really it was driving home the point that the fighting doesn't actually matter.

To say that the English voice actors did a fantastic job is an understatement. I don't think the game would leave a bigger impact on me if I switch to Japanese va, I just couldn't understand the language natively and the tones and emotions would've been lost to me. And the English va absolutely nailed pod 042 and 153 voices, they're way too f*cking good!

The genius behind this twist, whether truly intentional or not, is that it serves as a lore check for whether or not you’ve played the first Nier. If you start with Automata, humans on the moon are just a thing at the beginning. If you know how Nier ended, you’ll never shake the feeling that something is off until that suspicion is justified here.

If they do sequel. The plot of the game should be, Go to the moon acquire this data to clone human. Now 2b , A2, 9s got something to fight for.

So if all of humanity is dead, then that means all the androids, the war for earth, the invasion by the aliens, the machines that they made, and everything that happens in the game utterly pointless. It ultimately doesn't matter who wins anymore. They're just machines. No longer having a purpose. It's like everything that you do in the game winds up being all for nothing because there is nothing to fight for. Nothing at all.

"God" is whoever we put Faith in. That's the Choice. Doesn't matter how any form of consciousness came to their Choice; it is their choice to put their faith where. And because of such ... bonds ... any _one true God_ can never exist without force, or rather, imposed Fate.

God is dead. For both the androids and the machines. Their war is pointless. That's what makes this scene so powerful.

If you were someone who reads a lot of military sci-fi, the idea of humans just being on the moon and not fighting the aliens themselves is a big clue. Whenever aliens are involved, humans are always the first into the fight.

@@Sub-Sownik would probably be better served to find a complete nier and drakengard lore vid but to give you the cliffnotes, In order to save humanity from a deadly pandemic from another world, scientists created a technology to remove soul from body with intent to create souless bodies for the disensouled to inhabit once they found a way to deal with it. Unfortunately these replicants got their own souls and personalities unexpectedly causing obvious issues. Shades running around the world were the disensouled who either went mad or were trying to get their body back. The shadow lord was the soul of the MC replicant body who had the perfect make up for the success of the re-ensouling process. Once he was killed, all hope was officially lost.

Papa NieR did nothing wrong, his replicant in the other hand...

This game is really depressing. A god dies or becomes weakened when believers die and prayers are never sang. Faith and prayers are the main fuel for religion. The fact that humanity is extinct means all them androids are dying for no absolute reason. 9S loses the one who gave him the meaning of life, 2B carries the pain of having to kill the person she deeply cared for due to the amount of time they spent together, and A2 still broken about losing her squad in Pearl Harbor. A story full of tragedies, a story of being trapped in the never ending reality of life and death. Yoko Taro truly gave us a masterpiece.

Final Fantasy Type Zero taught that war persist in a spiral NieR Automata taught that war is ultimately meaningless

I found it strange that the commander told the truth so easily without having any worries that 9's would go and tell 2B ... Well, it makes pretty much sense after while. Go little Nines, go tell 2B what you know...

If not for the Logic virus YoRHa would have "won". 9S was kept as a model even after needing to be killed by 2B *48 times* for his high curiosity and problem solving critical to paralyzing the machine network. So the Commander took a gamble he would continue to fight if not for YoRHa then for 2B and the other androids he had formed relationships with.

People who played the first Nier would have known this. XD

Maybe humans received a warning that the aliens were coming and created the androids to prepare for the war. I have a feeling they were wiped out as the aliens arrived and the androids were forced to keep fighting because of the programming.

But before the alien invasion, humans were affected by some sort of salt syndrome, where this disease turns people to death as salt. In order to avoid this monstrous disease, humans was ordered to remain unconscious for 10,000 years ,and during those time period androids was created, to observe Earth. That’s all i know

M Fizz Humans got infected by the result of the remains (called Maso) of the Grotesquerie Queen that Caim fought when they both were transported to Tokyo in 2003 during the final battle of Drakengard 1. The result of this was the White Chlorination Syndrome in which humans were turned into salt. To rectify this the Hamelin Organization developed a way to remove a persons body (Replicant) and soul (Gestalt) from their bodies as doing so would make it impossible for White Chlorination Syndrome to take effect. Certain androids such as Devola and Popola were created to oversee both the Replicants and Gestalts, and magical tomes/books called Grimoires were created so that both body and soul could come together once more when the books were activated after a permanent solution to the White Chlorination Syndrome was created (which was found.) Afterwards this is where the events of Nier 1 take place.

When I played this game they said humans were wiped by a virus in a letter. ( no alien attack) Every computer serves a purpose if no one is there to give it a purpose than the computer will only follow its last order and function. So I guess the androids are just following the last given order. Maybe they knew aliens were coming and had no idea if they would be friendly or not. but the virus got them first. I think 🤔

Kavish Algoo the Android are programmed to protect humanity, as stated in Devola and Popola short story, so it’s their duty to fight back to protect the human only homeworld that the android know of. Even though the android did fight back, but it was mainly Emil, the last human, and also a secret weapon who take the fight against the alien. He use all his power to become an 1 man army in order to hold the frontline just so that he could protect the world that his friends tried to save. In the first few thousand of years it was Emil and his clones who fight in the frontline. Until he slowly lost his memory, and reason for fighting, that’s why the machine slowly win the war.Shortly after, Yorha was created with council of humanity, that’s when the Android take the fight against the Alien seriously as they know human is still alive.

Strange... Considering all the infromation from Drama CD's and etc... Project Gestalt wasnt a total failure. I mean the place where Nier took place was just a part of the whole world. And there's info that in some places Project Gestalt was succsesful. So why is humanity extinct? Black Scrawl comes in symbol's on the body of the Replicant whose Gestalt started to Relapse(i.e going berserk)... Hmmm... Techicaly humanity could be revived , but only if they will use they DNA that is stored on Moon server. Davy Jones I don't know about Kidnap and Torture. I mean to both the Androids and the Machines Humans are like gods to them which is why the theme of the game is "Become Like gods," which to them means to become Human. The worse case I could see is them being overly protective of the human to the point where they won't allow the human to leave the resistance camp or bunker for the humans own safety from getting kidnapped by the equally curious machines who may want to either study the philosophy of humanity or dissect the human (like what Adam wanted to do) to understand them. On the bright side you'd get to hang out with Devola and Popola or the Commander.

Yeah Humanity is dead, but they have the genome, and possibly a lot of samples, they could clone back humans after winning the war, after all they are advanced A.I.s capable of deceiving themselves. 3 years late but for the people who are still curious, it's explained in a novel that took place between Replicant and Automata (heavy spoilers obviously). Shades are the primary mob you face in Replicant and it is revealed deep into the story, that they are the souls of humanity that were separated from their physical body. Reason for this was due to White Chlorination Syndrome, a disease that effectively could not be cured and forced humanity to come up with this method. Humans came up with the idea of separating body and soul (called Project Gestalt) and while this seemed like a good idea, the bodies (named Replicants) started gaining sentience and their own sense of will and thus made it extremely hard for the souls (Shades) to fuse back with them. Through centuries, the Shades started going berserk and only a few people knew about Project Gestalt by the time Nier Replicant took place. P-33 was a robot that managed to befriend and understand a young Shade. Nier and his crew attacked P-33 and killed the Shade because a client of theirs gaslighted himself into believing P-33 and the Shade killed his brother, when in reality they had nothing to do with it (they just happened to be there at the brother's accidental death). P-33 survived Nier's attack though, went to space, and came across the Aliens' machines and taught them sentience. He was revered as "Prometheus" and was the founder of the machine's complex mind.

(death) My question is why Number 9 (9S's distant predecessor), as you can see in the Anime, put this message in the Bunker, but it was also in the Moon Server. (yeah I think I worded it badly 3 years ago) He was the one who prepared the backdoor for the Machine Network to enter and destroy the Bunker and YoRHa, why include this message there? Is it what gave him such despair? Or anger that the wanted all YoRHa gone? (Or I guess, maybe he wanted to defeat despair by keeping the lie that humanity is alive, alive) Who did he intend to see this message? The Machine Network? The YoRHa soldiers before their end? a future predecessor like 9S himself? _That's_ my question. 🤔🤨🧐 quite cryptic Mr Taro.. but it wouldn't be one of his games or stories otherwise.. Also, ALL these storybooks are narrated by Number 9 right? Except Emil's ofc.

Play New Game Plus. You'll be able to play as 9S, and then you can receive the cutscenes and additional information from his perspective. But it's not over after you finish playing as him, trust me.

Androids were already around when the aliens invaded killing almost all of them, A couple thousand years before the aliens invaded androids started a human heritage restoration program, which tried to rebuild and protect the old world, i'm guessing they didn't want that to get ruined and probably wanted revenge, about a thousand years after that was started is when humanity went extinct.... atleast i think i'v only just started getting into the yokoverse.

Fun fact: Humanity died due to a pandemic that turned them into salt. People fought over the quarantine restrictions and anarchy basically tore the remnants of humanity apart. Sound familiar?

I feel like this scene could also be an allegory for religion, and how religion often uses God as justification to convince others to act. YoRHa are the blind followers, Command the zealots, and humanity their gods.

This is the moment that nearly ruins the entire game for me.

@@zaragachizanparo4948 Did you finish this game yet? Because if you haven’t then you are in for a treat. It’ll feel hopeless at first but you’ll see that it has a bittersweet beautiful ending no matter what route you do.
