Nicola Sturgeon is challenged over 'deleted WhatsApps' during Covid Inquiry
Nicola Sturgeon said she will carry the impact of decisions she made throughout the Covid-19 pandemic will stay with her forever.
She said she wanted to ensure that “those who come after me in politics have the benefit of the learning, the things my government did right and the things that my government that were not right or with hindsight that we wish we had done differently.
“I cannot say strongly enough how important that is to me.
“These decisions were of a magnitude beyond what I had ever experienced, and that is true of decision makers everywhere and the impact of them I think about literally every day.
“I want this inquiry and the Scottish inquiry to scrutinise those decisions so that we can learn and future governments can learn lessons from them.”

Why is she able to determine herself what messages are and are not 'relevant' to the inquiry? That's for the legal teams to work through on both sides. She needs to comply with the Inquiry's ask, which is to submit, unredacted and unamended/deleted, exchange of messages and Whatsapps over the period in question. What a farce!

The more I listen to her at the enquiry the more disalluisioned I am by her antics. She says one thing but means another. Was she really expecting to get away with telling the enquiry she had destroyed her whats app records? How bad could they have been? (The mind boggles) I thought digital technology was such that it was impossible to totally eliminate records. Are we actually hearing the truth or a version? Are there records that will remain hidden for ever? It's not fair on those who just want the truth about their loved ones.
Every time she speaks she gives a masterclass in verbosity and deliberate filibustering. Up in the midlands we would say: "She's gone a long way around for a short cut."

We have learned nothing about the serious aspects of dealing with a pandemic. The obsession with WhatsApp messages has obscured any learning which might have come from a serious inquiry. But instead we are spending hours on this trivial matter. There are copious records of every decision taken by the Scottish Government as well as hundreds of live TV briefings. Nicola Sturgeon used WhatsApp for its intended purpose - social media. There's a clue in the name.
