Nico wrote this song in response to Solanas' shooting of Warhol., However the chorus "Father , Child, Angels of the Night" betrays a more primal issue of Nico-she came from a generation without fathers and so in a sense this prayer like chorus was in essence revealing Nico's own abandonment. And no this is not the version on "Frozen Borderline" and I expect is owned by Philippe Garrrel. It's heartbreaking and beautiful.

I really wish there was a MP3 out there of this version. It is so fucking beautiful, it makes me cry.

It is not the same vocal arrangement as any other of The Falconer. This for me is the definitive version of the song which proves Nico's mastery of songwriting in the folk avant garde mode without the help of John Cale.

There is one entitled "The Falconer (demo version)" with pretty much the same arrangement on the 2nd disc of double-cd collection "The Frozen Borderline: 1968-1970". At the beginning of it Nico even says "This song is already in a movie. It's beautiful". Check it out!

This might be Nico’s most complex song in terms of the melody on that harmonium. It’s beautiful. Also I commented on this years ago on an account that I don’t know how to access anymore lol. But if anyone is interested I uploaded a couple of Nico slideshows with a lot of photos.

So beautiful, the recording should be released on it's own. I read from Nico's writing that she regretted giving this song towards Garrel's film.

I thought I heard the songwords: “the falconer sitting on his Summersand at dawn” + ‘cages this, cages that’ silver and flooding., hence I misthought it was about Sanssouci palace (the summer retreat of Frederick whomever) stead in the sands of Brandenburg, Prussia. ?

@abacazabaca She says: "I am so tired." Then I think she says: "I will not betray". Then she continues: "I cannot... cannot live." "I'm afraid... of everything, of nothing, of everything." "Yes. Yes, I would like to." "I am lost." At least that's how I make it out.

That song was made by Nico for Andy Warhol! So, I believe that 'father' was Andy...

Nico was so far and above Lou Reed that it wasn't even funny. Everyone thought she was just beautiful. Couldn't have been more wrong.
