Thinking about getting the overlanders in brown wax flesh, love the style of the boot

I would recommend possibly going with Nicks weather shield black leather on your next pair if youre considering using them in wet conditions.

FYI. Horweens Predator Orange has a very similar tannage to Chromexcel. The Obenaufs LP is probably not the best to use on it for maintaining its color. I use Venetian Shoe Cream on it and it conditions without over darkening the leather. Overall it’s an awesome leather.

I have the builder pros, ruffled out lower with smooth uppers. I work for the parks department. The ruff out handles the scratches and rocks much better.

I had the same boot that I ordered based on the fitting system from Nicks. Trace your foot, scan that sheet to them, etc. These were my 2nd pair of Nicks and they were a great looking boot, but I didn't find them at all comfortable, even after wearing them 8 hrs/day to work, for approx. 8 months. The boots are well made, and the fit was good, but left little room for thick socks, or an insole. I should have ordered a larger size so that I could use insoles, but I didn't think I would need them. I ended up selling them. Good luck with yours, I'm sure it makes a difference in comfort with the insoles in the summer and heavier socks in the winter. How much larger of a size did you order to make sure you had the room for the insoles?

Crazy how dark Predator Orange can get. Edit: oh you use Obenauf’s. That’s why.

What product would you suggest that would reduce the darkening?
@EDHBlvd

@@traxzenwell I’ve never reduced darkening caused by Obenauf’s on an old pair of boots I have. I never used that stuff on light boots again. Only super dark brown or shoes I don’t care about darkening on (like some boat shoes I wear when I wash my car). I prefer Venetian Shoe Cream and Bick4. I lately also started using Smiths. None darken like Obenauf’s. Some guys have suggested washing a boot with Dawn soap can remove the darkening caused by Obenauf’s. Others suggest using Saddle Soap. I want to try both as an experiment.

Got my builder pro back in April 2023. Were your boots snug at the ball of your foot and a little loose at the heel when new?.
@traxzen

Definitely loose at the heel (with blistering to prove it!) but ball of foot was not terribly snug. Heel moved into the pocket and became snug after 3 month breakin.

Just curious if you have any issue with the lack of shock absorption in this style of boot?

So far no. As I said, I usually carry 40lbs on my back and I haven't noticed any downsides due to lack of shock absorption. I do use insoles but they have pretty much bottomed out at this point. You do notice the lack of cushion compared to a new pair of Salomons, but the cushion on the Salomons don't last very long.

I did not understand the comparison between Salomon and the Overlander….they are totally 2 different style for different needs I guess…😊
