I think it's cuz they literally always made music that appealed to the lowest common denominator - and they became VERY popular, you couldn't move without hearing them, and back in the day the radio was like - all there was. So you hear nickleback on 5/6 stations in your preset and you're getting a bit annoyed. THEN the song that you were listening to that wasn't Nickelback changed to a Nickelback song. They were so popular, so all pervasive, that we got SICK of them. But looking back they weren't bad. We just ate too much sugar and got a tummy ache.

Maturing is realizing Nickelback isn't as bad as everyone in your life made them out to be. I used to listen to them a lot with one of my mom's friends when I was a kid. Then we moved away and she conditioned me to hate them. Since then me and her friend (who weirdly isn't that much older than me) got back in contact and we always go on a discord call and play Minecraft while we play Nickelback

I've been a fan of Nickelback since radio introduced me to the lead single "How You Remind Me" from their second album Silver Side Up in 2001. Maturing is not giving a damn what anyone else says about your inconsequential preferences (books, clothes, food, movies, music, television, etcetera). I like what I like - I didn't care if other people didn't at 16, I still don't now. Rock on 🤘 or don't, you do you boo! 🤷‍♀️

It was on the radio lots when it came out. Well, here in Alberta, Canada anyway. Maybe because it's where they're from and met CanCon requirements? Canadian Radio is required to play at least 35% Canadian content on their stations so depending how many Canadian artists have new singles out at the time a single can be played a lot, several times a day to help meet it.
