Nick Wright on NBA Playoffs, Jayson Tatum & Celtics, Anthony Edwards vs. Luka Doncic | Colin Cowherd

Спорт

Colin Cowherd is joined by 'First Things First' host Nick Wright. The pair discuss the NBA Playoffs, starting with the Boston Celtics and the Indiana Pacers. They give their takes on why Jayson Tatum isn't an all-time great even if the Celtics win the NBA Finals in 2024. The Dallas Mavericks and Minnesota Timberwolves square off in the Western Conference Finals and all eyes are on their stars Luka Doncic & Anthony Edwards. Which player is more likely to be the face of the NBA and which NBA star missed their opportunity? How does the league view American vs. international basketball players? Next, they discuss the NBA vs. MLB, UFC and the downfall of boxing and college basketball. Nick & Colin share their earliest childhood sports memories and why LeBron James is the only athlete in the GOAT discuss that didn't have a historically great coach. Lastly, they hit sports media and politics and how the discourse has changed.

    Tatum had 36 12 4 and 3, played great defense and was a +20 in a game decided by 5. I am his biggest critic and he drives me crazy every game. But you can’t hate on a player for not fitting the narrative the media is trying to push. Colin saying he peaked 2 years ago shows exactly why this drives Celtics fans nuts. Tatum has continued to develop each year and just because he’s not Kobe in the final 2 minutes of every game doesn’t mean he isn’t good enough to lead his team to a championship.

    If the Pacers were a better team and they took advantage, they would’ve lost, and then Tatum being actually bad in crunch time would’ve come to play, now, he gets bailed out by Jaylen and it’s no big deal, but you can’t be bad in crunch time and continue to win into the championship, that’s not how that works

    Damn, I guess the game ended in a Tie… that or OT doesn’t count as clutch time… make it make sense. There are no perfect players… and Tatum certainly didn’t peak at 24 years of age. His scoring peaked last year, and a Chip we did not receive.

    These 2 are your classic echo chamber of agreeing with each other. No push back, no critical thought, just the you agree with me or you’re an idiot and do t deserve to speak. You should always question things especially when the media has openly lied about things. What’s the problem with asking questions? If you’re so solid in your answer and the facts then answering questions shouldn’t be a problem. Nick is a classic example of someone who loves to talk racism and race issues when that’s inherently something that is fluid and is different for everyone based on their experience so you’re gonna get different responses from different ppl regardless of your race. And it’s amazing to me they still have this level of trump derangement. Have they ever thought maybe half of the country think differently than they do? Does that mean 50% of the country is just dumb?

    I'm a right wing liberal. I enjoyed the discussion on the state of political debate in our country. I absolutely agree that many will argue the "Cowboys won the Superbowl" when we have other facts. On the insurrection... I was horrified. It's generally been the left that riots and loots. It sucks when it's your "team" that did that. Colin said many claim the insurrection was a firework party gone a little sideways. I enjoyed that metaphor, but it has worked in reverse in many instances. Many on the left claim a murderous mob forced their way into the Capitol building in Trump's behalf. The problem is, Colin, just like with the Bobby Knight story, we have video evidence of the guards waving for the crowd to approach the building, and holding the door as they filed in. There's also video of guards walking down the hallway with rioters. I'm not saying it wasn't a tragedy. It got scary in there. We have video of bad things happening in the capitol that day, but to claim the capitol was "stormed" is just as dishonest and ridiculous as it would be to say the Cowboys won the Superbowl. Facts have to have priority, and neither side actually cares about the facts. The left just wants to make Jan 6 the biggest tragedy since Slavery, and the Right wants to say it was only a picnic where someone scraped there knee. Both sides are ridiculous.

His opinion on Baker Mayfield as a starting quarterback has changed more times than you can count. He now regularly identifies Baker as a franchise QB. I like Baker but that's a stretch. Baker currently holds the position of starting QB with a team that is at best mid-tier and earning close to bottom of scale for a player in that position. I would say that Baker's hold on that status is tenuous at best. That's not my definition of a franchise QB. At least half of the current starting QB's have a much more secure hold on that status. I would say that Baker is continuously staring down the prospect of being relegated to backup.

    This is so weird hearing this political talk today. Had a Political Theory today and Dr. Joshua Wood at UCR was going over Aristotle and his beliefs on the Polis, and basically he was saying that some people have an ability to reason over others, and the people that do not are better off being slaves, and the people that know how to reason should rule the political system because they know what is best for all.

    I'm a Celtics fan and I agree Lakers are the top team in the NBA and have more relevant titles to the current NBA league format of 30 teams and 16 playoff teams. But considering the Lakers moved to a state that has the weather and Hollywood advantage, the Celtics did pretty good having the same amount of titles but without these attractions.

    It's not enough to be talented and a team first player. Apparently, you need to play hero ball every night and be a diva. Tatum's only sin is that he doesn't give you the juicy fodder that keeps your narrative-making industry running.

    That’s exactly why they are convinced that ant is so amazing for the league. His childish wrestling celebration and waving goodbye to the crowd bring immediate ratings but he doesn’t have the skill to carry this league and they are already trying to push him as the one and only with no imperfections.

    Love Nick but his argument for Lebron and against Jordan because Jordan had Jackson goes in direct opposition to his take on Mahomes and Reid. Nick already thinks that Mahomes is the best ever and he already puts Reid in the top 5 category with a chance to be the goat if he wins more SBs.

    My biggest frustration with NBA media is that they say the Knicks are the better story, but then put 0 effort into creating a story (which is the medias job) for the Pacers WHEN THEY’RE THE TEAM WHO WON THE SERIES. It’s like they aren’t good enough at their jobs to figure out how to promote the Pacers

  • @francescosmith7859
    @francescosmith7859Ай бұрын

    It's really a shame what has happened to the NBA's eastern conference. When Bron joined forces with Bosh and Wade it was like a power vacuum with no other team even being close to worthy (especially with D Rose's injuries and no I was never impressed by PG13 and Hibbert's Pacers). It felt like the East was gaining steam the past few years and last year the West looked much weaker (think of Sacto as the 3 seed with 48 wins) but in just one year the East looks mostly pathetic (and I know we can blame injuries but I think it goes deeper than that) and the West looks like Denver might be the 4th best team for years to come behind some mighty up and comers in Dallas, OKC and Minny. Then again, by the time the offseason occurs maybe some major changes have come and the east will look more formidable.

    Nicks story of telling his dad about the game Derrick Thomas was having, and him not believing him-- lol-- and his little comment of "was that the first time i ever proved my dad wrong?" Haha.. not only did that crack me up.. but it triggered a memory when i was about 10-12 years old, somewhere around 1999, my family went in a road trip vacation, and my dad and i were talking sports in the front seat... And we had lived in Phoenix early in my life, and Danny Manning had played for the Suns in the early 90s.. and my dad made a comment about "yea he was a really good player at K-State"... And i said "no, dad, he played for the KU Jayhawks." And he questioned me and dismissed it, but i KNEW i was right! Lol. And when i got home i went and got one of my trading cards (cuz those used to be cool, ya know) and showed him his bio on the back, and it said he went to KU.. and my dad gave me a look ill never forget, like, "how did you know that and i didn't!?" Kind of look .. and i remember it being the first time i ever proved my dad wrong. Lol. Great comment

    Because Nick and Colin are SO incredibly smart I enjoy listening to all of their perspectives, including when they veer into politics. But because they are SO incredibly smart it proves the point that people who are focused on sports should probably not talk politics. Wright says that Reagan would be "run out [of the Republican party] on a rail" because he said, "We're a country for all people." I mean, if you listen to current Republicans, including Trump, they say basically the same thing! And Colin talking about J6 and saying, "we watched it!" Dude... you watched specially selected clips! Had you watched other specially selected clips you'd have a completely different impression! What the current media lacks, whether left or right, is nuance. Most sports commentators don't have time to think about political nuance and should probably just stick with their area of expertise.
