I’m in the US and I don’t blame voters. I blame the politicians who behave just like this on all sides and justify or defend it when stuff like this happens. There’s a real lack of shame these days and that behavior from our leaders (or their fellows that defend it) influences others. In turn, virtues we used to admire and expect, like honor or leadership, aren’t rewarded anymore - just power.

This is one of the reasons I am for the smallest government possible. People always want gov't to be the solution and it balloons to have them in charge of everything but you are literally handing over more and more of your moeny for them to control the way they want.

It's not the size of Government that dictates their ability to enact and enforce policy. That is data collection and the systems behind them. So if you want the Government to control your life less, make data gathering more complex. Counter-intuitively, the larger the size of the Government, the harder it is to manage, and the more democratized it is. If you have 1 person in charge of the whole country, you have to bribe one person, if you have 100,000 people in charge of the country, that is a much harder beast to satiate.

It is true that in every political sphere, there are individuals who exploit their authority and engage in misconduct. Some notable examples include Mike Pezzullo, Peter Dutton, Angus Taylor, and Barnaby Joyce. Surprisingly, 60 Minutes has not conducted any investigations into these corrupt entities, despite the fact that their actions have cost taxpayers billions of dollars and still holding jobs that paid by tax payers. The reasons behind this lack of scrutiny are questionable.

We expect labour to look after the everyday people with negotiations of reasonable wages and assistance in health and education because liberals are for business owners and intergenerational wealth growth. And usually the 2 parties take turns so we all sorta get a chance. If labour lets this old school filth erode what it is to be a voice of the everyday and less fortunate, they will be no one to trust who can voice the average Aussie and poorest of us anywhere in politics! It's so disappointing and heartbreaking. And will leave our future with desperate high crime around the streets and escalate to more violence over the decades. Both parties are doing nothing to prevent Australia becoming a slum like other 3rd world. Do better so we can live respectful lives in Australia. It's a small population with huge potential in a new land, and it's turning into shit. Good reporting and I hope something good can come of it and it does not hurt the voice of the Aussie people for a fair go.

You can be wrong many times then. If you have politicians not getting paid, then they have to get money from somewhere, so they'll be encouraged to make more shady deals to put food on their tables. If you are suggesting that only people who can afford to go without payment should be politicians, their needs and wants are completely different than everyday people and they won't make decisions that are in the best interests of all Australians.
