Nick Diaz Post-Fight Press Conference Highlights

Спорт

Nick Diaz at the post-fight press after his stunning armbar submission victory over Evangelista Cyborg Santos.
The main event was a slugfest, the southpaw Diaz landing solid punches with both hands while the gallant challenger did significant damage with an array of leg kicks and counter punches.
But shortly after Cyborg, the husband of STRIKEFORCE Women's Middleweight (145 pounds) Champion Cris Cyborg, scored an ill-advised takedown late in the second, Diaz finished him with an armbar at 4:50.

    I like Diaz. He says what he thinks, no b.s. It's funny when all the reporters start laughing at what he says and he's just got this look on his face like, "I'm serious m.f.'s." For all the people new to MMA. If you want to see a good Diaz fight search for the Diaz vs. Gomi fight. That fight rocks.

    He has good comedic timing and a deadpan delivery. I think he is probably more gregarious in private with his humour but around the press he is more self conscious and shy about it. Like when they ask if he has matured as a fighter and he just flat out says, no not all all, people laughed because it was unexpected but also bc of his delivery.

    what Nick also didn't mention was that he fought Smith at 180 lbs, not Smith making the cut to 170 for the first time like Daley did.

    @JohnnyBoyCali Robbie Lawler? Gomi? Cyborg, although his record doesn't depict, is a very good striker that actually came very close to finishing Shogun(Cyborg used to fight at LHW and even HW, but I bet you didn't know that). And yes, Kos/Fitch would most likely take him down and just lay on him, I didn't dispute that. And if you've watched his last 5 fights, although he doesn't swing as hard as say Paul Daley, his boxing is fucking amazing. He's a technical striker, not Chuck Liddell.

    @JohnnyBoyCali An out-of-shape Jake Shields beat Kampmann, Nick's grappling is at a very high level like Jake's, and his stand-up is immensely better, I don't know how you think Kampmann would win that fight. I'll admit, GSP/Koscheck/Fitch would all give him trouble due to their lay and pray styles, and Carlos Condit vs Nick would actually be a great fight I'd love to see.

    @JohnnyBoyCali No, he recently said he re-signed with Strikeforce because he knows so many people in the WW division in the UFC, he wouldn't fight Shields/Nate/Serra/Almeida(Serra/Almeida because of their Gracie affiliation). I think he'd beat BJ, what does BJ have for him? He'd get worked in the stand-up, and on the ground they're both highly skilled, I don't see either one of them getting a sub on the other. Hardy? You're joking right? Daley is WAY better than Hardy, and watch what happens.

    @showbizvil Yeah, but you gotta understand Nick is Strikeforce's most valuable asset, they both know this, and I guarentee that new contract he got set him up pretty nicely. It's not UFC champ money, but still 100g's and like you said, a fuck load off of endorsements each fight.

    @showbizvil And the numbers just got released, he made 150k for the fight on Saturday lol. That's a good amount, considering he probably makes around 50k from sponsors per fight too. He just needs to go to the UFC and get that PPV $, and I'm not sure if Strikeforce gives fighters money under the table but the UFC sure as hell does.

    @LikeTotallyRich Honestly, I'm a huge Diaz fan(both Nick and Nate) but Nick tends to over-exaggerate the whole money issue. I know it costs a lot to be a fighter, you have to pay your manager/trainers/members of your camp/various other people for helping you out - but Nick makes more than enough money, and he doesn't drive a Honda. Scott said in an interview last night that they're taking care of Nick, that with the contract he just signed he easily has enough $ to buy a new car/new house/etc.

  • @htownallday281
    @htownallday28113 жыл бұрын

    @LikeTotallyRich When you're the WW champ and a pretty well known name like Nick Diaz, it's stupid to think he's not getting paid. I bet he gets paid more than the majority of UFC WW's(with the exception of GSP, Kos, Shields, Penn, Hughes). Dana White said he'd sign him, so if Strikeforce didn't offer him enough money he should've jumped ship to the UFC, I know I'm not the only one that would enjoy seeing him fight for them again. But I bet he gets paid way more than 6 figures per win.

    @JohnnyBoyCali Anthony Johnson? COMEON MAN! He's a good fighter but not nearly as well rounded as Nick. Serra/Penn he'd destroy, his stand-up is better than theirs and his BJJ is above the level of Serra and on par with BJ's. Now Alves vs Diaz would be a fight I'd LOVE to fucking see, especially if Nick gets through Daley. Fitch/Kos would lay on top of him for 3 rounds, and GSP would try to stand with him and realize Nick's boxing is superior and precede to take him down for 5 rounds.

    @cmeshyne50 He's a black belt now and he was a black belt when he lost to Sherk, Sanchez and Parysian in the UFC. I think he would oustriek GSP, Kos and Fitch but all three of those guys would take him down easily and all those guys have solid sub defense. He would NOT outstrike Thiago Alves. Thiago would KO Nick Diaz and so would BJ Penn whos BJJ is just as good as Nicks. Matt Serras BJJ is also as good as Nick Diaz.

    Please Strikeforce PAY Nick. He lalk about going to fight in pro boxing cause they pay more. Nick is so poor that he can't travel to go spare. He spare his brother, Nino and Jake. Seeing something new would be cool! Also4-5 last interviews nick say that he is underpay. Now everybody think Strikeforce are a bunch of promoters that underpay their fichters. P.s. Nick is the Welterweight Champ and he is poor. That's a massive problem for Strikeforce.

    @UFCBrockLesnar1 idiots will be idiots Only an idiot would expect a champion to fight a non-tittle fight, in a different weight class, against a fighter who isn't even ranked in the top 20 of his own weight class, just because he was called out by that fighter.

    @htownallday281 I like watching Nicks fights because hes exciting but I dont think he really wants to go to the UFC. He's making good money at strikeforce and I dont think he beats the top 5 WW's in the UFC(GSP, Koscheck, Fitch, Alves or Kampmann. Heck he might not even be able to beat BJ whos now at WW or Hardy, Condit or even Matt Serra whos got just as good BJJ and just as good boxing. Nick should stay in strikeforce. His wrestlings not good enough for the UFC.

  • @JohnnyBoyCali
    @JohnnyBoyCali13 жыл бұрын

    @htownallday281 Fine Diaz beats Kampmann but no way he gets pass GSP, Koscheck, Fitch, Thiago Alves, BJ penn, Matt Serra or even Anthony Johnson. If Nick came into the UFC I'd first like to see him against Alves, Fitch and then GSP. Let him earn his way to a title shot.

  • @JohnnyBoyCali

    @htownallday281 Its not about being well rounded at all. its about the fact that the UFC WW's are stronger more powerful wrestlers that will take nick down easily and control him on the ground. All those guys I mentioned have solid sub defense. Nicks been facing average WW's like Noons, Sakurai, Zaromskis and Smith. None of those guys are UFC caliber fighters. Also how did Nick get this reputation of a great striker. What elite striker has he beaten? KJ Noons whos way overrated please.

  • @JohnnyBoyCali
    @JohnnyBoyCali13 жыл бұрын

    @htownallday281 Yes I knew all of that. My point was NOT that Nick isn't a good fighter or that Cyborg isn't a good fighter. My gripe is with people who say Nick is the best WW or that hes in the top 5 WW's. Hes simply not an A Level elite fighter. If you look at the guys hes fought recently none of them are in the top 10 rankings and none of them are elite wrestlers.Nick is a B Level fighter who's entertaining but could never be a top 5 WW.
