Nicholas Hooper: ‘Goodbye’

Музыка

'Goodbye’, by Nicholas Hooper
------------
Goodbye to my lovely
my friend, my sound.
Goodbye to your action
that makes tone so round.
Goodbye to surprises
that might catch me out.
Goodbye to the chance
that this music’s about.
Go to the gentle hands
that find you a new
chance for creation
that’s happened to few.
Change is a danger,
an adventure for me.
What happens next
I surely will see.
But sadness is here too
and loss of that touch
that gave to me musings
that gave me so much.
Come back renewed now,
new strings to your bow
and we’ll make new music
your grand sound to show.
Now
Go!

About 'Goodbye’:
'Goodbye’ is part of Nicholas Hooper's collection of Dawnings - an innovative way to couple word and music.
“Every morning at around 5am I get up and go down to my studio. After a short meditation I write down whatever is in my head, giving myself fifteen minutes to do so. Then moving over to the piano (or a more portable instrument like my Ukulele when I'm away), I improvise and record a piece of music inspired by whatever words I just wrote. It is a great way of keeping both my writing and my composing going and I call these small creations Dawnings. They are mostly unedited, like sketches, so that they keep that fresh feeling of an early morning discovery.”
