At this price point, I believe this is still the best home espresso grinder option. I've owned one for about 2 years, and the only concern I've had (not mentioned in Kyle's video) is that the hinged plastic lid feels cheaper/flimsier than the rest of the device. Apart from aesthetics, this has not been a problem, but I am still expecting that at some point I will knock it (or the grinder will fall over) and it will snap off at the hinge...

Love my Zero, truly truly do. Def was Looking at the Lagom, but couldn’t justify the price. The issue with fines hasn’t been huge, and to be fair, I mostly use it for mocha pots and Turkish (less often for drip), neither of which are particularly “fines” sensitive. I’d love to have access to more Niche accessories, tbh. The biggest amongst them would be dosing cups w/ different diameters, but there are a whole host of accessories that’d be nice: A carrying case would be huge. Given its price point, it should come with a stirrer and/or a spray bottle. But I’d be willing to pay an extra $150 for a niche “accessory kit,” no doubt. Loved the review!

Great video, I have love the Niche but I am a 270Wi owner and it's the same price as the niche and includes the built in scales which is amazing for workflow. I would add that I have a sperate grinder for my pourovers. I have had mine for 8 months and no issues so far.

Great video production! Even though I have already owned a niche zero for a year now, and I am happy with it for home use. I pair it with my La Marrazoco Mini. The result is excellent. I think I will stick with this grinder, or I will probably double my budget and go for something high-end.

I really like the rocky rancillio coffee grinder.. it can grind all the way from cold brew/french press to espresso and its $400. I did have one but the only reason I returned it is because it was the doser model and I prefer the doeser-less. looking to re purchase in the near future.

Love the design, and also that it has a very small footprint on the kitchen counter. The build quality is excellent, and is super easy to clean out and re-align. I use my niche exclusively for V60 and have no problems with brews stalling using grind setting 35, consistently hitting target times within 10 seconds. Definately does depend on the technique as you stated. Just follow Hoffmanns method, and there is no problem.

Great video! I would have gotten Niche Zero at the retail price, but with limited availability and inflated price, I backed ARCO 2-in-1 grinder instead. I am now using a manual hand grinder with about 120 grind steps for espresso shots and pour-over coffees. The manual hand grinder works... but for espresso shots, it is time-consuming and quite the labor.

I still move my Lido hand grinders. But when you start that intense few minutes of hand grinding, it does stop your flow. After I got the Niche, I was surprised how much more relaxed my total work-flow is.

Good video, I wanted a Niche but it was super hard to get in Canada so I went with Eureka Specialita. It grinds fairly quietly and is pretty quick. In terms of single dosing, I found it has fairly low retention. All that said & easy to find, it was the easy choice for me. I know you had one (watched video long ago) & you highly praised it which also help cement my purchase.

Thanks for the video, Kyle! In my opinion, while the Niche Zero isn't the best grinder out there but at it's price point, there's really none that comes close. The workflow and user experience with the Niche is second to none. Using the Niche Zero is as simple as getting the right grind setting -> pouring your beans in -> close the lid, flip the switch -> and you have freshly grind coffee with close to zero retention and not much static. As a bonus, the dosing cup that comes with the Niche fits into your 58mm portafilter like a glove. As someone who makes latte at home daily, we all know the time and effort (end to end) it takes to make a cup of latte and the last thing you want on your end is to make a mess out of your coffee counter with coffee grinds spilling here and there. The Niche Zero literally streamlines your workflow from whole beans to having coffee ground in your portafilter. No mess, no fuss. When you start doing maintenance of your Niche Zero, you'll realise how thoughtfully and carefully designed this machine is. Definitely a grinder still worth getting in 2021. That said, am hoping to see a Niche Zero killer one day (and no, I wouldn't call the DF64 a Niche Zero killer).

Great video, Kyle. Thanks for the updated review. I received my Niche a few weeks ago and I really enjoy it. The challenge of seasoning is real but as you mentioned that’s going to be a (temporary) problem with any burr grinder. I brew primarily espresso with occasional filter coffee (80/20), so the Niche really is a great hybrid option for people who primarily brew espresso. I’m also new enough to filter coffee that I haven’t had a lot of experience with other grinders yet. I think long term I’d like to have a flat burr option for more unimodal grinds, but I don’t think there’s a better conical burr grinder option available right now.

I think what makes the niche so popular is it really doesnt have any big flaws. It grinds well, can do espresso and filter, it's not super loud, it's not plastic, it's not ridiculously expensive, it's not huge, it's not ugly (this is subjective) ... it does everything pretty well all around which is pretty rare for a good price. There also seems to be a cult following for this grinder which I think is pretty unique.

I didn’t have any problems ordering it, guess I was lucky, my wife loves it for her filter coffees, I use it for my espresso and Aéropress for witch I grind close to espresso, for the V60 I use my hand grinder, kind of like that ritual. I had a Mazzer flat burrs grinder, do I miss the flat burrs, not one bit! The only other grinder I would like is the Weber Key, guess what, it’s another conical burr grinder 🤷‍♂️

Thanks to credible reviews like Kyle's I pulled the trigger on the Niche for pour-over. Satisfaction is 10/10. I will never get tired of the soothing sound and vibration(thanks Martin and James). I don't care that there is no auto shut off because it is so quiet. I don't have to run over and turn if off because it is even quieter when it is not currently grinding. AND I never get tired of the mechanical feel of that grinder on/off switch. AND yes due to its unique shape and angle-it nicely fits in to small spaces-even a small corner(it deserves its name:).

Great video Kyle, this is an issue on a lot of people's mind right now. I think Niche need to look at their range being a one product company does leave them vulnerable to competitors eating at their market share, I know the wait is frustrating, but better that and keep the quality high rather than rushing product out that is poor quality, mind you I do think a lot of people would prefer Niche to source a UK or European manufacturer of the product. That being said I have gone for one of the competitors and backed the Kopi Deva as the DF64 is also in short supply in the UK and has too many issues that need mods in my opinion, it was a toss up between backing the GOAT Coffee grinder and the Kopi and in the end I liked the look and work flow of the Kopi and it being cordless is an added bonus as there is no compromise on its placement in the home and no messy cord in the way, I just hope it lives up to my expectations.

The only thing I would change on the Niche is the grind setting, would love a finer thread that can make smaller grind size adjustments. For me a slight turn makes a pretty big difference in flow for my espresso. Also if they could have marks that go 360 degrees it would make going between espresso and filter alot easier. An auto-off feature that turns the grinder off when done grinding would be nice. Otherwise it's hard to see how they could improve on an already great design.

interesting suggestion for a Niche 2. Replaceable burrs AND replaceable threads. Can you imagine making a pour-over and then unlocking it, then lifting the pour-over flat burr/thread unit out and sliding the espresso unit in and in seconds having a perfect espresso grinder.

the leg up that the niche has over the alternatives is probably the design. I like the other suggestions, but niche just looks more elegant and it's easy to use. it's only got one button, and it grinds well. the production delays and price tag are definitely making me pause though

I'm moving on from my Baratza 270 and upgrading to the Niche. First off, dialing in the 270 is annoying. Getting coffee where you need to adjust the top portion of the dial seems like a pretty big step, then you need to adjust the stepless portion and you end up wasting more coffee than necessary with just a single stepless adjustment. The retention is good on the 270, for the price, but it still needs to be purged when you make an adjustment. Something I don't think I'll have to do with the niche. The Niche also seems like it's going to be way quieter than the 270. Getting the coffee into the portafilter from the niche compared to the 270 seems like it'll be a nicer experience as well. No more need for a funnel on top of my portafilter to dose. The aesthetic design seems a lot nicer. The only thing I might miss on the 270 compared to the niche is the timer. I can get a repetitive amount of coffee once I have it dialed in by saving how long the grinder should run. But I won't need that anymore since it's single dose. My niche is getting shipped now, very excited for the upgrade. We'll see if what I talked about above is worth it, but seems like it should be.

Another missing feature is anti-static. Static and grinds were all over the place with the Niche. No real issue with my Ode, Forte BG or Mignon XL. It's the first of my coffee gadgets that my wife wasn't too intimidated to try and consequently got her into freshly ground coffee. She now uses it every da in her cafetiere. In other words, it doesn't need a hobbyist's eagerness to push through poor ergonomics as many of its competitors do. It just...works.

I just get the flair 58 and bought an eureka mignon crono being on a budget option for a expresso grinder, seems to perform ok, but so much retention, i just bought an air hopper which leaves me with almost no retention so in fact it is kind of a good deal ! The only thing i would think more in the future especially if i am on a budget, is seeing potential upgrade availability, for now their is no upgrade burrs for my mignon with his 55mm burrs… i dont know if its because its new but hoping to see ssp burrs in 55mm in the future.

Ordering the Niche wasn't easy. If you want one, get on their mailing list and when they say stock is going to be available, make sure you order right then. They go quick.

Here it is 2023 and I'm perfectly happy with my multifunctional KitchenAid coffee burr grinder. It's been overlooked in all the reviews but let me tell you it's a very very good grinder. I can grind the beans for true espresso fluffy flourr like grind then dial it over to French press. It comes with the anti-static coffee ground canister and it is a TRUE anti-static canister. Had for a couple months now and the grinds just slide out of the canister easily. Wife is ecstatic over it. Pun intended.😅 Retention is minimal maybe a gram or less but what I like most about it is it's 76 decibel sound level. One of the quieter grinders out there. You can pretty much get the amount of grams you want by the amount of time you set it to. For instance my grind setting for espresso is on 70 on the dial while the time is at 18.9 seconds which gives me 19 g. Good luck finding anything in $160 to $200 level of this coffee grinder. Makes beautiful espresso grind as well as French press.

Great video, I still have a Niche and enjoy it. I also have the Weber key on order and am in the market for a nice flat burr. In my research a couple of points you made were incorrect. You mentioned that Eureka, option-o and Weber build their grinders locally whilst the niche is built in China. Eureka assemble their grinders in Florence. Weber built their grinders in Taiwan even though they are based in Nevada and Option-O design their products in Australia, but their manafacturing plant is in China. Are you looking for an end game flat burr option? I'm considering the Lagom P100.

I was about to pull the trigger on the Niche but a couple of useful points you mentioned jumped out. 1) British design but made in China - very disappointed to hear this! As someone who is trying hard to shop closer to home this is actually quite high up there on my reasons to not buy. @Niche - pls take note. 2) you've introduced me to the P64 - a dangerous path to an even more expensive habit. But appreciate your comment on it not being twice the grinder

I’ve been vacillating between the DF64 and Niche (with little side offshoots to the Kopi Deva and Weber Key) for a few months, but finally bit the bullet on the Niche a couple of weeks ago - the day before the DF came back into stock in the UK. 🤦🏻‍♂️ Although £100 more expensive than the DF here, I settled on the Niche because of the apparently smoother workflow and on the basis of aesthetics. I think any grinder is going to be a compromise when looking at different brew methods and even something higher end like the P64 (which would be closer to three times the price here) is going to be better at one thing than another depending on the selected burr sets. However, since ordering they have not sold out on their current drop, so unless they have upped their production, I can’t help wondering if the bubble has burst. Also, now I have finally taken the plunge, you can pretty much guarantee that Niche will announce an 83mm flat burr grinder for the same price. 😢

I pretty much went the other way and got DF 64. I don't think you can go wrong with either at this price point. Niche looks slick with easier workflow whereas DF64 has flat burr set with possibility to upgrade to seemingly better burrs, SSP. i also got it so i could potentially use SSP brew burrs if I am moving away from espressos.

I am struggling with the thought of the Mignon XL. The struggle is about the same with the Niche. Where to buy it. The larger sites don't seem to have them yet (WLL, Clive, as examples). I can't tell if there are issues that the larger stores aren't ready to carry them yet (bolts too long, internal issues). Just wish the supply chain would get back into check. Until then, older specialita it is...it works well enough.

I ordered a Niche a little over a month and a half ago. In addition to actually being able to purchase one, the wait time to get it after you give them money is also concerning. However, while the European models still are more readily available, the North American models are getting easier to get. At first they were selling out within two minutes of release. The last couple releases have US models available for around 2 days after release. Yes... Still selling out quickly but more reasonable for people to get. 🙂 I do hope to get to try other grinders, but for me I'm eagerly awaiting my Niche!
