Have used microns in the past when I did some pen and ink with watercolor. Even if you don't use up the ink, they tend to dry out. But good enough to start and practice. Love the accordion book drawing! TFS

The rotring isographs had their application in technical drawings, before technical drawings were done on a computer. Their line widths are exact.

I find it kinda spooky that I found my old Koh-i-Noors just the other day! I really appreciate the nib comparison you did Sandy. It’s interesting to see how the different companies vary in their definition of ‘fine’. As always, your drawing was amazing. You make it seem so effortless and, as we all know, it isn’t. You master this medium as well ❤️ Thanks for sharing your talent with us 👏

I was looking everywhere for a size comparison between different pen brand, for the purpose of drawing. But I couldn't find it anywhere. But finally, I found this and this is exactly what I needed. Thank you very much!

I saw the mouse in the thumbnail and had to click the like button. I always wanted a pet mouse ( or rat ). So cute!

TheBiteSizedCrafter I once had a pet mouse. It was so noisy at night that my mom finally issued an edict: either the mouse left or I could go with it!!!!

Thank you for the comparison, well done! .... the Sharpie pen/stylo is different from the marker you used in this comparison and I find it to be my go to when I don’t want to carry my EF nib Twsbi (which is rare). The Sharpie Pen/Stylo fine point, I don’t think it comes in EF, equates to the EF in the Sharpie marker, it does not bleed through, is waterproof, archival and I just like it better for a less expensive disposable pen.

You CAN refill your Microns/Pitt pens. You can refill those dry “disposable” Microns with a nice cheap waterproof India/Bombay ink (or Platinum Carbon)... if you’re worried that they might gunk up later, pffftttt.....no worries, you were going to throw it away anyways but now you can get months/years extra out of them if you use them often and your nibs are still good! (Just need tweezers/pliers, pull the nib and drip your ink in, voila!)

I bought this exact same Rotrink set back in the late 70's. It cost me a month's salary back then ($220), after I saved up for almost 2 years.

Thanks for sharing your amazing accordion sketchbook--it's so cinematic! Rotring is a respected German brand for technical pens and tools for architects and designers. I had Rotring, Kohinoor (a respected Czech brand) and Staedtler pens when I was in design school and Rotring was considered superior by my instructors, although I found them comparable.

Yes they’re nice-though I feel like KohiNoor are made better? Maybe sometime I’ll dig those out and order some new nibs and compare (it’s my memory that the pens “felt” more substantial.)

One thing I remember is that all technical pens require a LOT of maintenance :) I'm sure I have some dried up ones somewhere in my stash.

Have you tried a Pilot Kakuno? Their EF is pretty fine and it's similar to the TWSBI Eco - transparent, piston-fill, and inexpensive. Highly recommend.

Cool thanks. Try the ruby/jeweled (like the ones used for watches so it has less friction) Faber-Castell TG1-J which is a notch above, the smooth but also precise (as w/ all good technical pens) Rotring Isograph P (a notch above the regular Isograph) and TG1-S.e Staedtler has the rare jeweled tip as well (ruby which is smooth) Marsmatic 579 Duraglide. I'd like to use technical pens for drawing as well. I'm building my own set. Are this good combo of technical pen nib sizes: 0.1, 0.35 and 0.7 or 0.8 or should it be 0.5 not 0.7 nor 0.8 as the third technical pen? Or should it be more than 3 technical pens (4?). I'll be drawing in A4, nothing big like a wall or a canvas size used by the greats like Van Gogh and the canvas size of the Mona Lisa (not that I'll use the pen on canvas- I might draw on fountain pen paper and onion paper which is very smooth). God bless, Rev. 21:4

Why, why, why did I not keep my late husband’s set of Koh-I-Nor pens? 😭😭😭 At the time, I didn’t have a use for them, I know, but... wah!

I still have mine, but I remember putting them away because the ink that came with the set was not waterproof, even though it said it was. I was thiiiiiis close to donating them because I thought I’d never use them again. Also, the pens would clog up. I’ll have to give them a try with the waterproof ink I have now for my fountain pen.

I find that Sharpie ink tends to fade quite quickly, whereas Micron ink does not. Have you found that to be true too? And how about the rest of the inks that you showed. What is their staying power?

Sharpie is alcohol ink... like Copic... so will fade. Micron is archival :)
