I wonder how assigning various accents to various regions in video games works in Japan. I mean, how many accents do they have? All I know of is the Kansai accent and the Okinawa accent.

@@asmodeus58XX Seemingly there’re 16 accents, and about 140 accents if sorted into small categories. Our accents, esp. the youth’s ones, are getting more “diluted” compares to the past probably because of telly. Ah, come to think of Osaka accent, it’s used so much in TV programmes (many comedians use thick one) that Traditional Kyoto accents are almost eroded 😩 sorry, I’ve digressed

There are just so many people hating on the english dub just because it has accents. In my opinion, it makes for a by far more unique and enjoyable experience than the japanese one that, albeit very professional, sounds very by-the-book and like every random JRPG dub ever. The english dub only makes the game feel more special and, after a while of getting used to, doesn't sound wierd or unfitting at all. It gives the characters a much more distinct personality. But to each their own. That's why we got dual audio in the first place.

Honestly, Nia, Bana and Zeke are great reasons to use the English voice actors. I feel like I would be missing out if I didn't hear the voices of those three.

I prefer japanese in 80 % of all games and anime. BUT NIA...(also pyra and mythra) sounds soooo great in english and makes Nia alive and suits perfectly. In japanese she just sounds like every 10 year old random little shit girl. Nothing special there...but english...holy crap i love her^^

Xenoblade dubs basically have an identity all their own with their UK accents and I wouldn’t change a single thing about it.

If you want to hear a very strong male Welsh accent, remember when some kids steal Roc's core crystal. The leader of the bandits you have to fight has the most Welsh accent of all of the Gormotti.

Reptil, Prince of lizard people It's not just the ESRB, it's anything really. It's why on tv, depending on the network, you can hear people say "shit" but "fuck" is bleeped out. I dont know why but "fuck" is apparently more offensive than shit.

Someone linked to this as an example of what Mordred Pendragon should sound like and now i can't unhear it.

Fun fact: I picked up that Nia's accent is Welsh because I watched both of Timothy Dalton's Bond films and recognized it from there. I was driving and listening to a Let's Play and started doing the one liners from the driving scenes in _The Living Daylights_ and then lamented they don't give Nia exploding toothpaste or a cigarette lighter that doubles as a flamethrower.
