    You ban drivers working over 8 hour as say it's not safe. These people are saving lives. Work them to death and they will make mistakes. I had surgery last year that now needs lots more to rectify and will need parts of colon and intestine removed as a result. Now having to take legal action as life will change. I shouldn't need to, but they are being crushed by failiour of it's own government. Money would get there if it was for weapons which waste lives. Where does that make any sense?

    ***** I sort of see the correlation, people of no real use like footballers are paid fortunes, no it's nothing to do with the tax payer, but it does come out the pot somewhere along the line, bankers, insurance companies , solicitors etc all fall in to this bracket, useless, good for nothing none of them, and not needed, where as Doctors on the other hand, they can save eveything you got , your life

    Its the market. People are willing to pay for entertainment but they argue like hell over necessities like utilities, car fuel, staple foods, rent/mortgage and insurance. Always pennies too high. A new car, super duper wide smart TV, new tablet phone thing, season ticket, concert, cinema/netflix, drink and fast food happy to slap down the money with little thought.

    But this started with Tony Blair and his PFI programs where his private sector buddies were lending money to the NHS hospitals to upgrade and extend their buildings. However they were charging much more than high street banks. They were insisting on being awarded other contracts at inflated rates like catering, security, maintenance, laundry etc. I remember the farce of it costing 60 pounds to change a light bulb. So much money was stripped out of patient care to fund these massive mortgages at inflated rates plus the associated inflated contracts. It’s not been 25 years yet. So when labour get confused as to how given the same levels of funding as many other western countries it fails to deliver in a similar way. Hello, look at the structural debt. The hidden national debt as it is underwritten by the taxpayer. The hidden debt that would make the nations debt to gdp ratio look very bad that no one talks about it. So bad that it might impact the countries credit rating. They reduced the numbers of beds massively, at the time they talked about not needing the beds as post op care had improved. Since then the population has gotten older and sicker and gone up by 6 million in the last 12 years. Also the real reason the beds had to be cut was they could afford to keep them open and pay the PFI partners their cut. So over the last decade and more the wages of doctors and nurses has been suppressed to pay for this structural debt. Consequently the doctors and nurses aren’t very happy and don’t want to work for low wages. The tube drivers earn more than many doctors. That is a farce. It just isn’t funny.

    If the answer is to keep throwing money at it that solution has a limit. Where does the government get the money from? Increase taxes 100%? How about 400%. The basic fact is there are too many ill people. To reduce the number of ill people start with looking at chronic diseases like heart disease, diabetes type 2 (and all associated diseases) and obesity (and all associated diseases). Fasting costs nothing and has been show time and time again to smash obesity into nothingness in a very space of time. Exercise costs little and nothing eg do squats, push ups, crunches and walking. Getting enough sleep costs very little. And adding more vegetables into the diet while reducing meat costs very little. Take these measures and the NHS would be saved within a few years. Somewhere along the line people will need to take minimum responsibility to saving the NHS. The answer is to throw every penny into it. As for all the over drinkers who end up in an ambulance it is completely unnecessary. The NHS was not created for people to f**k themselves up for. If it was then it does not deserve to exist.

  • @kynchan3332

    The answer is not to throw every penny into it. But it would be too unpopular to ask people to do all those things. (As with fasting how would it be to not eat for a few days before getting very calorifically rich foods after that? You'd control weight very easily.)

    Its a real shame these people have not developed. In business production tends to become cheaper and better over time, due to increases in efficiency, improvements in methodology and innovation. While for government services everything gets more expensive and service tends to get worse over time. It almost seems abnormal if it didn't happen so often. Whenever asking a liberal how is this all going to be paid for they have a blank expression, then get angry. After that they answer a different question when it comes back to figures. Its like fantasy world, where the numbers can just be made up and strung together with their ideals.

    UK per capita costs USD 3,900, private for profit U.S. system more than USD 9,000 (the most expensive in the world), wealthy European countries 5,000 - 5,500 (and for that money a First World Country definitely can have a good and well working system). The NHS is obviously underfunded - the only wealthy country to have lower costs is Japan. In Europe the next ranked nations have costs around 4,500 and upwards, so the NHS is quite competitive cost-wise. data for 2014, source World Bank.

There are 1.25 billion people in India out of which 1.20 billion I assure are living a healthy life. In part, government control has for a long time been sustainable and the NHS has thrived from it since its inception. The reason being is because funding/budgeting is consistent which keeps everything ticking over nicely. The public pay their taxes, some of the taxes pay for the health service - making it universally free at the point of delivery and very rarely incurring extra expense for the individual patient. The problem arises when certain governments rattle the cage by removing funding/redirecting it elsewhere; the whole system is reliant on a strong and steady cash flow. It cannot survive budget cuts, it simply doesn't work like that for medicine/healthcare. Budget cuts = less paid staff/less equipment = less beds = less people get seen = people need to be seen quicker = higher risk of error = lawsuits = loss of more money = loss of faith in the system etc etc. Also add to that the growing concern of the effect the elderly being admitted through lack of end of life care availability and affordability, large numbers of moronic intoxicated patients in A&E, alongside 'healthcare tourism' and mass immigration from the EU - combine these with the budget cuts and this is why there is immense and unsustainable pressure on the system. It cannot continue this way. It needs more money, or less people. The govt. does not seem to understand this.

    I'm sure it's just a coincidence that all the people they interviewed were women. I don't see why women should expect to take years out of their career, then only work part time, but retain all the same benefits as men who work full time with no time off. And I don't know which NHS doctors this woman has visited recently, but they seem to me to have been pretty bad for decades now. That said, 15 hour shifts are utterly unacceptable, and shouldn't be permitted, even with adequate compensation.

    +Naryan Robinson I agree - raising kids is the most important job in the world. But don't expect to have your cake and eat it too. At the expense of people who choose other priorities. RAISING kids is important, not HAVING them. The planet would be just fine if it were 5 billion people lighter.

  • @Martial-Mat

    @Martial-Mat

    8 жыл бұрын

    +Naryan Robinson I never said that there should be no more children. If I buy a car, I don't expect YOU to pay for it simply because it enables me to pay tax. I make sacrifices in order to own the car. If you choose to have a child - not something that the planet is in need of - why should I pay for that child beyond its education and health? What is a "fair wage" Naryan? What should a person be able to do with that wage? And people ARE resources. Just pieces on a business chess board. There is NO business on the planet that does not recognise that. The only difference is whether companies seem them as resources purely to be exploited, or if a progressive company considers that those resources give a better return when they are happy.

  • @Martial-Mat

    @Martial-Mat

    8 жыл бұрын

    +Naryan Robinson Do you think that Walmart considers the emotional and health welfare of the people it does not pay enough to live? Do you think Britain's biggest companies would farm out all their labour to countries with no minimum wage, virtually non-existent health and safety, and child labour if they did NOT view people as assets rather than valued individuals? I am not saying I endorse that view by a long way; I am merely stating the way that it is.Children are something special and wonderful to those who want to have them, but to those who do not, they are simply another of life's choices, like a car or a house. That doesn't decrease their value TO YOU, but don't expect the rest of society to share your values. An increasing proportion of people are choosing NEVER to have kids as they realise that they are not necessary to a fulfilling life. That is a dispassionate evaluation made by people who realise that, enriching though children can be, they are also choices to be made in the plus and minus ledger of one's life. If you cannot see that, then it is YOU who is detached from reality. Perhaps if more people evaluated the impact of child rearing logically, rather than simply drifting into it, there'd be less unwanted kids, or less kids raised by single parents, to the detriment of the kids AND society.I realise that people like you get some kind of gratification and sense of moral superiority by being outraged at everything, but honestly, I'm neither fooled nor impressed. If you'd like to have an intelligent conversation about the issues, rather than using silly fake indignation littered with schoolboy ad hominem's as a tactic, come back and try again.

    This is a very poor argument indeed. While I admit the job of street cleaning is important, the job of a doctor has far more responsibilities, education and stress involved than a street cleaner. It takes 15 years to become a hospital consultant. My wife is an obs and gyne registrar - in a typical 12 hour shift she will look after the labour ward, performing life saving surgery, often at 3 am in the morning, reviewing A+E patients, clinics. As part of her 8 year training program she required to move to a different hospital every year which normally involves uprooting the whole family. When she is not working she is studying, researching, doing audits, presentations. She is not paid for all this extracurricular work. I significant part of her job involves working unsocial hours especially night shifts. It is not uncommon for her to work up to 70 hour week. She has saved countless lives of mothers and babies. Her basic salary is around £30,000. A tube driver receives £65,000

    The fact is junior doctors are not asking for more money. They are protesting because 1) Jeremy hunt wants to remove the safeguards that penalise hospitals for overworking doctors eg 100 hour shifts per week. 2) pay them significantly less for working unsocial hours. A street cleaner doesn't make life and death decisions every 20 minutes like an A+e doctor. Street cleaners don't require precision hand to eye coordination like a neurosurgeon. A street cleaner doesn't have to tell an 8 year old child that there mother is going to die.

    How much do doctor get paid? UK doctors earn more than in nearly all other European countries. Under Labour their wages went up and up. The average annual income for a UK doctor is £112k. This is a joke. On top of that many professionals with high incomes speculate on the housing market as rent seekers with property portfolios. I don't have any sympathy for UK doctors. Go and work down a coal mine for peanuts or work on a building site where wages have collapsed due to cheap labour migration. A lot of there high earners in the public sector need to get real. if doctor want more money then why don't they go self employed and start up a business? Try running a small business competing against large supermarkets. We'll see then if they can earn £100k+.

  • @snarkqueen

    You're just wrong. The AVERAGE doctor does not earn this much. Some senior GP partners & some consultants earn over 100k. There are a lot more "junior" doctors on less which would bring the average down. I earned ~£22000 basic rate last year.

    +abbers If you're just out of Uni £22k is nothing to sneeze at. I remember from my time in Germany there was once over 10,000 unemployed doctors. To get a job a junior doctor had to work like a slave and start at the very elementary bottom on very low pay and stay there for years on end in the hope of making it to a senior position. We used to joke "Wohin mit den Studenten?" Britain's economy is not as competitive or as reg/aggressive as Germany's. There's no such thing as foreign doctors in German hospitals as there's a glut. Over 300,000 Germans work in Switzerland mostly in health care. I've spent some time in a German hospital for a few weeks and never saw a single non German doctor. The only immigrants were nurses (mostly from the former Yugoslavia) or cleaners. Remember all the German doctors working weekends in UK hospital for £2,000 a pop? If you're not happy about your pay grin and bear it. It's much better than working on a building site competing with cheap labour migrants from eastern Europe who are always prepared to work for half price. The UK government know only too well the UK labour market has changed over the last 10 years. There's far more competition now for manual semi skilled work and this has forced the hand of young people to go to university as studying is the better long term option compared to competing with poverty stricken Poles. There's going to be more and more pressure on the labour market so you'll be working for a lot less in the future. Look what has happened to air line pilots in the US since the industry was deregulated. Some are now surviving on food stamps. The same will happen to you so made the most of what you have now. If you're half intelligent emigrate to Australia. Britain is a shithole and now damaged goods. There's going to be a gradual decline in living standards for decades to come and just about everywhere else in northern Europe has a far higher standard of living. Complete your studies and go to Australia as soon as possible. Their single payer health system is much better and you won't get drunk on wine, that's for sure!

I think it is time to bring those junior doctors from Havana Cuba, who travel to help others under the name of "Internationalism"; They never ask for MONEY and helped so many countries freely as they are the only nation poor helping poor with free healthcare and education system. I am assuming that Money might be the reason of this strike which is affecting NHS and vulnerable elderly people and moral code should be taught to junior doctors,.

    the shadow knows I do have a Clue about Cuba, I can tell you in Spanish if you want me to tell you too. There is a Spanish proverb: "Pobre no es el que tiene poco sino el que mucho desea" (Poor is not someone who has less but who desires more). Cuba has given free professional education almost all African countries namely: Angola, Congo, Ghana, Mali, Sahara Republic, Guinea Bissau, Guinea Ecuatorial, Cabe Verde, Sao Tome, Namibia, Sud Africa ( Cuba also helped in their struggle against apartheid) Mozambique, Uganda, Ethiopia, Madagascar etc.. from Latin America and Caribbean : Nicaragua, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru, Paraguay, Mexico, Brazil, Chile, Jamaica, St Luis, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Haiti etc. Cuban Biotechnology is one of the best in Latin America, they have produced the best vaccine for meningitis, hepatitis B, C, as well as produced so called PPG to reduce blood colesterol. Despite straggling unfair Embargo form America, in 2005 they opened an international medical school in Havana and the first group to receive free education was poor Americans. What about Ebola? While UK was concerned about protecting his border and didn't act quickly while people were dyeing and immediate action were needed (which had been criticised by public) The Cubans had sent more than 400 doctors. If you are a Junior doctor please contact me after 16 years of service and remember: " Money is numbers and numbers never end. If you take money to be happy, your search for happiness will never end".

    the shadow knows What do you think make junior doctors work exhaustive? As far as I am aware the medical team as it sounds and by definition, it is a TEAM WORK! Let us fool ourselves!

    the shadow knows I am a "Journalist" watching you closely. No one works night shift and then next day. For obvious reason, to protect the patient's and the staff's health. it is NHS's HR responsibility to make sure this never happens and I am sure they always did unless you are banking somewhere else in night and came back the next day. "Dealing with people when they are just about to die, bringing new life into the world..." Its done thanks a TEAM WORK, where everyone is involved; healthcare assistant, nurses, research nurses, sisters, junior doctors, consultant. If I leave you with two junior doctors in the ward without those staff above mentioned what would be your chance of saving life? Sitting in front of the computer contemplating your mobile constantly does not save life. I am a journalist watching you closely and I do talk so many real people.

    the shadow knows KKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK. I said "I am journalist" I have been ironic as junior doctors tend to be like a journalist, packed with theory, robotised thinkers. I will see my own psychiatrist, 30 years of experience!

    +Fik Desta I am not even going to counter your comment because you are obviously a plant of the Jeremy idiot - if so I understand your motive - if not you must be a complete cretin - but you will still be offered the same fine service in the NHS despite your comments.
