There was no chance he would not make the roster this year. He is the best prospect the Leafs have by a mile. Cowan is something special though. He's definitely the second best, factoring in his age. I don't expect Cowan to play much this year though. Maybe if a lot of injuries happen.

Gonna be a looooong season for Montreal and their fans. Only 4 leaf starters played tonight with Knies being the only forward and with Jones in net against an almost full Montreal lineup. That Habs PP is brutal

Came here to make a similar comment but you beat me to it. This was pretty much the Marlie squad and for the most part it looked like Montreal had no business being there. And that power play is hard to watch. You said it but I think the only Leaf regulars playing were Reilly, Knies, Robertson, and Brodie. And Knies and Robertson don’t have a lot of nhl games under their belt

@@cash3015 Knies is the only forward that will be on the team opening night. The other 3 starters where Rielly, Brodie an McCabe. Jones, the leafs goalie tonight is their 3rd goalie and will also start the season with the marlies if he doesn't get claimed off waivers. Like I said, leafs only had 4 starters in the lineup and Montreal had 90% of their full squad.

@@matt7352 Knies, Rielly, Brodie and McCabe were the 4 starters. Robertson will most likely start the year with the Marlies. Look at the left wing for Toronto. You got Bertuzzi, Domi and Knies. Robertson needs to be in the top 9 to be useful. No point putting him on the 4th line. He may get the 3rd line right wing spot over a guy like Lafferty but I think he'll start with the Marlies.

These games aren't about winning or losing. It's about seeing some young players play to evaluate your talent and help provide a path for further development. The Leafs cupboard isn't stacked with high first round picks, there's a bunch of 2nd and 3rds in there and all seem to be progressing well. Most are likely still 2-3 years away from possible regular NHL duty, but the fact you notice them and see them making good plays is a good sign. Especially for a team like the Leafs, since it's unlikely they'll be getting any top 10 picks in the foreseeable future (aside from potential trades). For Montreal, they're still a young team. I'd keep expectations low. There's a lot of good pieces for the future, especially with a couple of their main ones already locked up long term.

Knies is the only one making the opening night lineup. Cowen will be going back to London and the others will start with the Marlies unless injuries happen.

The Leafs especially the YOUNG Leafs look very good in the last 2 or 3 games!! They put a lot more pressure in the offensive zone than they did last year! I sure hope the Leafs have changed their system to a more pressure style of play all over the ice! Very impressed with the gap control of the D, and the D zone was very tidy as well! Keep it up and this team will go a lot further than the second round!!

Didn't realize the Leafs had so much young talent. Nice to see.

More of a recent thing, shame we didn’t let knies play more last year. I loved it when the kid was on the ice!

Me remembering that even though Montréal lost they looked pretty good tonight: 😊 Then I remember our starting lineup lost to torontos ahl team: ..

Knies, Minton, Cowan, Robertson.. the prospects for this Leafs team is looking incredible.. Knies is obviously a lock for opening night, id wager the same for Robertson. Cowan and Minton will be excellent call-ups, Niemala is getting there. This Leafs #3 team beat an apparent #1 MTL team, quite impressive. Edit: forgot Gregor and Steeves 😮

If Noah Gregor(#18 Leafs) isn't in the lineup come october i'll be surprised... he's someone i could see playing in the top 6 if someone gets hurt with that speed

Guhle is a allstar defenseman in the making and I thought Gregor's speed really shows good game by him as well

Dobes looked very promising in goal very solid and confident .

Minten reminds me a lot of an older Toronto maple leaf player that was called Matt Fratin. Both young, played great in their first pre season with the leafs, wear number 39, and look very simmilar😂😂😂

Im gonna say even tho the leafs won, aside from minor mistakes that need to be worked out montreal is playing well, there to risky with some plays i find the younger guys panic. But newhook is awesome love that pick up by hughes and reinbacher is gonna be an absolute stud on the blueline in a couple years and i mean absolute stud. At first i was skeptical as a major habs fan when we took him at 5 but in the long run im more then happy with that pick at 5 this year. Although theres lots of teams on the come up im excited to see what montreal can do if monty can be consistent between the pipes

Cowan has been coached well by the Hunters, which is why the Knights send more NHL ready players to the Show than any other CHL team.

At 1:55 - He did get his foot to the post. The seal isn't perfect when you do skate on post in RVH. Most goalies do that on post to post transitions since its easier than having the toe bridge on post. Tough luck but I wouldn't say it was a bad goal for Monty.

Reilly and Brodie did their best to lose us the game but these youngsters had other plans. this season would have bee the most fun except if you know Babcock and Keefe they will never give these youngsters a look, even if they were forced to do so it would be garbage minutes on 4th line. Keefe has a hard on for Lafferty and Gregor who i was cheering for but he turned out to be a Tavares type selfish player, so many chances to set up his mates but hell no. Knies should be played with Mathews because he is just that good , i don't give a crap about his age and same applies for Cowan and Minten they should absolutely be playing this year. knies-Mathews-Marner Bertuzzi-Nylander- Domi Cowan-Minten-Robertson Lafferty-Tavares-Reaves Remember kids, Reilly+Tavares= Early playoff exit

Hughes made 2 big mistake. 1. Barron 2. Newhook And he should. Buy back or put on waiver Armia, Gallagher and Dvorak.

Caufield is a great player and will score many goals for the Habs. However, I wouldn't trade Knies for Caufield 1 for 1. Caufield has more offensive upside but Knies is such a complete player already at only 20 years of age. Dudes a big body that seems to do everything well.
