The 7 game losing streak was directly offset by the 7 games against Boston, Toronto, Colorado, NYR and Tampa Bay that they shouldn't have won but did anyway. What really "did the Red Wings in" was them dropping points to direct competitors for the WC2. Even just in March alone, if they win the OT against PIT instead of lose it, or take the Caps to OT at all, win or lose, instead of losing outright, the Wings make it without invoking tie breakers at all and every other factor is rendered moot.

If we don’t beat you all, I will be cheering for whoever plays them next. maybe I’m biased as a wings fan, but the tie breaker rule seems screwed up. Most overall wins should be first. Caps had 2 more loser points than us. Current system penalizes a team for winning in OT/SO than it does for getting loser points. It’s basically saying losing 2 times in OT is better than winning a game. Any unbiased fan would think that’s backwards. Not saying we should do away with the loser point, but for tie breaking purposes, 2 points for winning a game shouldn’t be worth less than losing 2 games in OT. Tie breaker should be: -Overall wins -Lowest loser points If the league doesn’t want ties and wants to award a team 1 point for making it to OT, fine. But the 2 points the winning team gets should be worth 2 points.

What’s sad is that as soon as we tied it up, Philadelphia’s season was over. So even if after pulling the goalie they had scored in regulation it wouldn’t have mattered… So we basically just got screwed by Philly… not to say that there were so so so many games we shouldn’t have lost this season, but to win the last two games like we did and not make it because of another team pulling the goalie in a tied game late to lose it is just gut wrenching.

Gave up 274 goals for the year, one of the 9th worst GA in the NHL. Bet on the wrong goalies as well as iffy decisions for the years defensive pairings. Petry and Holl signings were not the answer for fixing this blueline before it even began. Team gave great offensive prowess with 278 goals but giving up way too many early leads and blown leads and battling back proved they were their own worst enemy.
