This is by far the best breakdown of the '24 draft. Thank you for your hard work, good sir!!

"Positionality" with the No. 2 pick is not nearly as important as finding the most talented winger available to play alongside Connor Bedard and begin to form an NHL-caliber top line. Who would you rather have on the Edmonton Oilers - Evan Bouchard or Leon Draisaitl?? Ivan Demidov will be the No. 2 pick.

@@sempcast Despite my 'rant' above, your point is well taken and I believe KD will select Artyem Levshunov with the No. 2 pick. Watching the Stanley Cup finals, the importance of a top notch defensive corps is once again being demonstrated. KD may address the need to find suitable linemate(s) for Connor Bedard during the free agency period immediately after the draft.

    1. The only reason the Oilers would prefer Draisaitl is because he's not getting paid fair value 2. These playoffs have tuly proven Bouchard's value 3. It's likely gonna be Levshunov, so start coming to terms with the pick

Buium brother was drafted by The Detroit Red Wings a couple years ago. Hes played really well in our system. Id love to draft his brother. But we have a logjam of defensive prospects. Yzerman learned from Bowman that you can never have too many good defensemen. Scotty also emphasized fowards who could play 2 way hockey. Bowman threatened to trade Yzerman to Ottawa for Alfredson if Yzerman didn't start to focus on defense too. So Yzerman went from scoring 50 goals, to 35 goals and was a plus player. He won a Selke trophy too lol.

People say that Yzerman learned from Kenny Holland on building a team. He learned ALOT more from Scotty Bowman. Kenny Holland was a great GM, one of the most successful in history. But he wasn't GM when we won in 97. Bowman was our coach and GM up until 1998. Thats the year Kenny took over. We won a Cup that year too. But Bowman really did put that team together too..or at least most of it. Ill totally give him credit for 2001-02 Hall of Fame team. But alot of those vets wanted to play for Bowman. It was rumored before the season that it would be his last. Holland deserves the praise and credit for 08 too. The 09 loss still haunts me lol. Hossa was playing with a broken bone in his hand, Datsyuk was playing with a sprained ankle, Zetterburg was playing with a bad back that he never recovered from. He retired early because of it. Even Lidstrom and Rafalski were hurt. Lidstrom never got hurt, but according to his book. His groin was pulled and Rafalski also had back problems. If Hossa didn't have that broken hand and Datsyuk didn't have a sprained ankle. I believe we would've won. But Pittsburgh played a hell of a series. I tip my hat to them.

the hawks just announced their new network this past week. nothing sells subscriptions like defense!! don't get too caught up on left shot vs right shot in regards to def. hjalmarsson (left shot) played pretty well on the right side for chicago. the hawks top line is vlasic and jones (signed for the next 6 seasons). korch was just drafted 2 years ago to be the future pp qb. w/ kaiser, edm, allan (played some right side in rockford), and rinzel otw, whose spot is lev taking? as for demidov, i'd argue it's more beneficial for his dev. to get top reps and top minutes, to be the game driver for his mhl team, as opposed to being relegated to 5-10 meaningless minutes in the khl. demidov's team swept michkov's team (kapitan) in the mhl playoffs last year. i believe demidov (1 year younger) had 3 goals to michkov's 1 assist in the series.

Citing position in ranking is just silly. Best player is the best player. We can track draft after draft where someone made a mistake by valuing position over the best player on the board.

@@dangshnizzle6929 Thank You. I am looking at it more from a draft perspective. I read all these mock drafts and rarely do the mockers mention the strength of one league vs another. I read some reviews that Levshunov is weak on defense and Dickerson is great at everything. However, NCAA Division 1 has stronger competition and older more mature players than the OHL.

You don't draft for positional value in the top 3 overall in the draft. You draft the best player available. If that were the case, the Blackhawks wouldn't have drafted a 5'9" wing 1OA in 2007.

If the Hawks take Leshunov cuz he shoots right, I fear we'll just have another Seth Jones or Eckblad...while the ducks will have a Kucherov level player in Demidov. Unless Levshunov has Makar potential, I don't give shit that he is right-handed. Demidov is killing kucherov and panarin in their comparable MHL year stats....
