Ngerebong is a tradition in Bali. In the language of Kesiman Village, Denpasar, it means gathering, namely the gathering of the gods. Ngerebong is a tradition held by Hindus at Pangrebongan Temple. This tradition is usually carried out every six months in the Balinese calendar, namely on Sunday or Redite Pon wuku Medangsia. Usually the roads are closed when this tradition is carried out, because people believe this tradition is a sacred tradition. The community begins the Ngerebong ceremony by praying at the temple. Ngerebong coincides with the percussion of rah/tajen or cockfighting, then continues with leaving the temple.
The highlight of the Ngerebong event is the sweeping of the road by the local customary police (pecalang), then the ceremony participants leave the temple to continue the ritual by circling the wantilan (cockfighting place) 3 times. , crying, dancing accompanied by bale ganjur (traditional Balinese music). In a trance, some people thrust keris into the chest, neck and even the crown of the head (this is also called ngurek). While the action was taking place, residents who were not possessed kept guard so as not to injure other residents who were not possessed. The Ngerebong ritual will end at sunset, because the spirits that have possessed the bodies of residents will be returned to their natural world by praying together and being splashed with water that has been purified. This ceremony must be carried out because it is believed to be a manifestation of devotion to Ida Sang Hyang Widi Wasa.
