NFL Stadiums Never Built
Спорт
In the history of the NFL there have been a lot of stadiums that have come and gone creating the illusion that building a new stadium is an easy feat. Many NFL teams have been awarded with their dream stadiums, but every stadium starts out the same. A proposed idea usually by some powerful figure, the team itself, or sometimes even a city who lacks an NFL team, and hopes a stadium would attract one.
Although sometimes these stadiums never become anything more than a proposed idea that slips through the cracks. Because of location, costs, or just the lack of no team wanting to call the stadium home. Here are 10 NFL Stadiums that never got built.

Los Angeles was used by the NFL as a bargaining chip against cities to blackmail them to build new stadiums. Arizona, Seattle, Minnesota, Oakland, Buffalo, Jacksonville, St. Louis, and San Diego, all of these teams were threatening to move to Los Angeles at one point just to get public funding for their stadiums. In fact Seattle had moving trucks on the road at one point. As of now all those teams except for Buffalo (Which is in the process of getting one), has either gotten a new stadium, moved to L.A., or in the case of Jacksonville, has made a huge amount of improvements to their stadium.

NFL is all about making money. Kronke moved the Rams back to LA where he could make a ton even though he and investors paid to build the stadium as part of a big entertainment district. The Baltimdome which was supposed to be a multipurpose domed stadium on the site of Orioles Park at Camden Yards for the O's and Colts. Instead, they built Oriole Park and Camden Yards, kept the Warehouse and later built a stadium for the Ravens south of it.
14:39 I vote for Boston, Massachusetts
Los Angeles resident here, no the city didn't "Believe the lack of a stadium kept them from getting a team", they knew. This is why the Rams and Raiders left in the first place. The only stadiums around at the time were 80 years old (Now 100 years old - Rose Bowl & The Coliseum). The Rose Bowl is known for not wanting too many events as the neighborhood controls what happens there. They even turned down the Chargers when the Chargers moved to Los Angeles and were looking for a place to play. The truth is none of the proposals were taken seriously until the Farmers Field one, and then when Kreonke bought the land that was Hollywood Park. Every other "proposal" was dismissed as a rumor because they never had any real traction.

@@rockvilleraven Does not change the fact stated in the original comment. So what's your point?
Slight correction: Nobody was looking at Hartford as a landing for the Patriots until after Kraft owned the team. Orthwein took over Pats ownership as a favor to the League, as the previous owners had left the team in financial shambles. It was true that Orthwein would have liked to move the Pats to St. Louis, but Kraft owned the unbreakable lease on the Stadium and the surrounding land, and used that as leverage to get Orthwein to sell the team to him. There was a wink-wink deal - with League assurances behind the scenes - that soon the NFL would have a team in St. Louis one way or another (either expansion or relocation). So Orthwein sold the Patriots to Kraft to get out of it clean. Kraft's later dalliance with Hartford was leverage to get a better deal in Massachusetts. Yes, Kraft would have gone to Hartford if the state of Connecticut could keep to its promises and deadlines, but Kraft didn't really think they could, and he didn't really want to go there if it could be helped. He thought backing out of Hartford was a reasonable possibility that he might have to resort to, as politicians' promises on theses things don't always turn out right. Massachusetts was giving Kraft a lot of difficulty, but staying there was always his first priority.

Large stadiums like this just don't naturally fit into such large cities. these stadiums are empty the majority of the time and when there is an event all the traffic would be spilled onto city streets where people are trying to go about their day. I always thought they should of built a stadium in the same parking lot as Citi Field. on the edge of town so you can still take transit and fams from the suburbs don't have to use the city streets.

I AM a lifelong Jets fan of about 53 or so years, and I like the West Side Stadium idea better than I like MetLife Stadium. MetLife to me, is just big and doesn't appear to be anything particularly special about it. Question I have is why are teams anting to build downtown, where you are going to be displacing not only citizens but businesses as well. Not only that, parking is a real hassle (for the people/fans) AND a real hustle (for that particular team). I'm watching how everything is unfolding in Oakland for my Athletics. Howard Terminal seems like a no-brainer for everyone, and the City of Oakland is really dragging their feet. Might be calling them the Last Vegas Athletics pretty soon.😔

I wouldn't be crazy about a football stadium in downtown Buffalo, but the open-air stadium they're building in Orchard Park is a boondoggle at best. "In the future" being 30 years down the road. They have only been in MetLife Stadium for 13 years. They do have an "opt-out" in 2 years and then every 5 years after that. The caveat is that they have to give 12 months' notice. So, if they wanted to leave in 2 years then they would have to announce that in 12 months. THAT isn't going to happen. They couldn't find a suitable alternative that quickly. So, the first legitimate opportunity to move would be at the 20-year mark in 7 years. 7 years is about the minimum amount of time it would take, especially given all of the red tape that New York is notorious for. Then the question becomes, "Where?" It would likely be a $2B+ project to build an NFL football stadium somewhere in New York City. For reference, NYCFC is spending over $700M to build a 25,000 seat soccer stadium next to Citi Field. That's about 1/3 the size of what an NFL stadium would need to be and the land they're building on is already cleared and part of the Citi Field property.

Well it's good rams and chargers didn't get new stadiums
Did the Rams/Chargers not get the stadium or am I missing something…?

Yes, the Rams got the stadium that the Chargers are tenants to. However, both teams were on opposite sides to return to LA in the mid 2010’s. Stan Kronke purchased the land that was formerly the Hollywood Park Racetrack in Inglewood. The Chargers, with the Raiders proposed a stadium in Carson. The Raiders/Chargers got the initial approval from the stadium committee but Jerry Jones met with all the other owners and suggested that they get behind Kronke’a stadium cause Stan had the big pockets to ensure the Rams didn’t fail in LA. When the Rams won the vote to relocate, the NFL gave the Chargers the first shot at relocating to LA if their city, San Diego, didn’t support their proposal on a new stadium. In the 2016 election, the City of Sam Diego voted on the stadium and rejected the ideal. On the one year anniversary of the Rams winning the relocation vote, the Chargers informed the NFL their intention to relocate to LA into SoFi Stadium.
It's a shame the fans and team where cheated out of a much needed dome stadium!!!!

Yes, after the fail bid, Mark Davis apparently loved the designed of the stadium, he took them for his proposed stadium in Vegas. The difference in the Vegas stadium vs Carson, the roof on the top, with the retractable door by the cauldron and the black exterior. Carson Stadium was exactly the same minus those item’s mentioned before

Allegiant Stadium IS the Carson Stadium except it's black on the exterior and that it has a roof. This was the stadium most L.A. fans wanted built instead of SoFi, because they wanted the Raiders back more than the Rams because the Raiders played in at the L.A Coliseum and the Rams played far away at what is now Angel Stadium in Anaheim.

Can you please say St. Louis again?? Please?🤭

I think every stadium needs a dome. Funny is people complain about the sun in Miami Dolphins stadium than the cold at Lambeau Field lol
Why would james dolan have a vote? He owns the knicks and a cable company!

Yeah, I suppose the Chicago Southside stadium was in fact "doomed." You need to get your AI pronunciation under control.
The Falcons proposal would have been the best and would have looked far better than the abortion they have now.

Yeah, the Falcons new stadium (Mercedes-Benz Stadium?) looks....well....when closed not that bad but when you watch the roof open the way it does it looks like Megatron's anus dilating and getting ready to take a shite!!

... the abberation* they have now.
The Falcon's Stadium proposal was absolutely hideous. An architectural monstrosity in every shape and form. I've seen pitched roof warehouses with better and more aesthetically appealing. I'm glad the Benz design won over that other crap.

St. Louis is pronounced "Saint Lewis" depsite the spelling.
Lol at America where the public funds stadiums for billionaires who threaten to tank the local economy and pride if they don't.
Spending Taxpayers money on BS 😒
We have beautiful sports facilities physically located in New Jersey. However, it has the wrong team names, the wrong cities 🏙️ and the wrong state. MetLife Stadium 🏟️ is physically located in the Borough of East Rutherford, Bergen County, New Jersey, home of the New York 🚫 Jets, the New York Giants and the XFL New York Guardians. The team's headquarters are physically located in New Jersey. Both teams should be referred to as a NEW JERSEY team. Red Bull 🐂Arena is physically located in the town of Harrison, Hudson County, New Jersey. It the home of the New York 🚫 Red Bulls 🐂. The team stadium 🏟️ and headquarters are physically located in New Jersey. It should referred to as the New Jersey Red Bulls 🐂. Period. I'm sick and tired of New Jersey playing second-fiddle to New York City and Philadelphia, on both sides of the Hudson and Delaware Rivers.
I think National Stadium didn't happen because they found out it would cost more to make the Mississippi River look blue
