Carolina Panthers Offensive Coordinator Joe Brady has said that his philosophy on offense is to force the defense to defend every blade of grass and to get his speed in space. To that end, Brady is using Spread concepts like Stick and Shallow Cross to force defenses into one on one matchups across the field with Carolina's speedy receivers. He uses empty formations along with those concepts to create even more problems for defenses and it has resulted in the Panthers quietly having one of the best pass offenses in the league. His schemes and wrinkles continually put defenses into a bind and he is maximizing the speed of the Panthers and the talents for quarterback Teddy Bridgewater.

    Came away pretty impressed with how Joe Brady is running that offense in Carolina. Very bright future ahead for them with him and Matt Rhule. Wouldn't be surprised if we see Joe Brady as a head coaching within a few years. Great Video! I notice a lot of times you highlighted #40 Alex Armah as one of the people running a routes. As a fullback, I can't imagine that he is considered a target by Bridgewater (unless Armah is standing there with no one around him). Do you have any idea why he uses the fullback in this way? I assume it has something do with them trying to disguise what they are doing with their certain packages? I.e during the Ron Rivera era it seemed whenever armah was on the field he was guaranteed to be blocking or taking a short yardage attempt. Now when Armah is in the offensive huddle the defense doesn't automatically know what is about to happen. I'd love to know your thoughts here.

  • @WeeklySpiral

    @WeeklySpiral

    3 жыл бұрын

    I think that's the main idea behind it, yea. If you can split your fullback out and have him be part of the passing scheme, the defenses still has to cover him. So in the huddle, you won't platoon guys in on defense because you don't know if they'll put him out in empty or go under center and run an iso play up the middle. That being said, they don't ask him to run very complex routes. He's usually the quick hitch guy or safety valve in the concept -- just like he would have been if he started in the backfield and leaked out. It's a simple way to break personnel tendencies and keep defenses from keying on who you have on the field and in the huddle. Glad you enjoyed the breakdown!

    @@WeeklySpiral Thanks for the reply. Do you like the match of Brady and Matt Ryan/Falcons offence?

  • @WeeklySpiral

    @WeeklySpiral

    3 жыл бұрын

    I think you have to love the weapons that the Falcons have. It’s hard to project Matt Ryan into there. He’s an excellent QB and I’m sure would be fine, but he hasn’t been in a spread system his entire career I don’t think. Granted, he also hasn’t had an offensive minded head coach his entire career either. I think if there’s someone that would give the Falcons a chance to win right now at the end of Matt’s career it might be Joe Brady. Falcons are in a little bit of no-mans land on whether you want to try and make one more push or start to retool and rebuild

  • @MartinGames

    @MartinGames

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@WeeklySpiral Again, thanks for the reply. Kinda reaffirms some of my concerns/hopes. Arthur Smith is another candidate, but no big buzz about him landing in ATL. Providing we could find the pieces for the running game, his approach looks like it'd be really comfortable for Matt. But... no point in sacking everybody just to be conservative in hiring their replacements.

    For all intents and purposes it totally is. Just semantics on my part really. I’m used to seeing drive with a RB release to the drive side to create a triangle read. The outside receiver can serve that purpose but at least as I came up, I called it shallow cross. Defensive stress stays the same though. Good catch!

    He'd be a great fit I think. He runs a similar style of offense to what Watson ran at Clemson. Some differences, but the offensive personnel for Houston and Carolina are relatively similar. Lots of speed and a little bit of a shaky offensive line. Now he just has Watson to push the ball downfield more than Teddy did. The problem is, no reinforcements are on the way for Houston with their draft picks all traded away. The team is what it is right now but Brady would certainly help on offense.
