Statistically compared to what? To the video game they play nowadays? Swan (and Stallworth) played the first half (approximately) of their careers in a running era. Back when they broke in, if you consistently passed on 3rd and 5 you were a "wimpy" team that wasn't going anyplace. Today, 3rd and 1 teams line up in the shotgun and pass. They were as good a receiver as anyone in their era, and far better than most. To me that makes them HOFers. And I hated the Steelers (but recognized talent). Statistically baseball pitchers todays have much higher ERAs than the pitchers of the deadball era, but so what. It's two different games. Same with football - you can't do a simple stat comparison. You have to ask, did they dominate, were they feared, could they do things no one else could do? That's the only way you can judge across eras. I'm not saying football today is worse (or better), just radically different.
